“I have listened to Pepe Romero’s Concierto de Aranjuez for almost 35 years. It boggles my mind how Romero can play for so long and hit every stroke, make every nuance exactly the same as 35 years ago. Absolutely astonishing and a great peace of art.”
In my estimation, Pepe’ Romero is the world’s greatest living concert guitarist. And this performance is one of the best versions of the iconic Aranjuez concerto.
For those Treeper friends who pay attention to such things, this guitar is a rather old (probably 55 years old I think) Miguel Rodriguez concert guitar. Since this concert was rather special, I think this instrument also rather special. It may well be the famous “La Wonderful” Miguel Rodiguez that—of all his instruments—is Pepe’s favorite.
What a wonderful performance this is. And how lucky we are to be able to revisit it whenever we want to.

Morning, Garrison 💕☕ I don’t remember who the artist was on the recording of this concerto I heard first when I was a freshman at UT. But I do remember how transfixed by it I was nearly fifty years ago. It is timeless. I agree about Pepe. He is a legend…and a genius…and no doubt responsible for the explosion of excellent guitarists who play today. So glad you’ve posted this again. I’m back in my dorm room once more, sitting on the floor, listening, remembering that inexplicable sudden thrill of hearing this fine work…something once experienced, never forgotten 😘

The cats take advantage of their situation. If doggie punishes cat, humans will get mad at dog. I loved my kitty but he would amuse himself attacking the legs of our large geriatric dog going up the stairs, and it was NOT FAIR. Doggie put up with it all for OUR SAKE. He had no lack of courage

Good afternoon Soaz. Love burro and horse kisses! Did you decide on the little donkey you looked at as a companion for Louisa?
Kitty central update, My curtains no longer exist on my office window and my one kitchen window over the sink. The redecorating committee (kittens) decided they were no longer useful! It usually occurs during the late night but I must be sleeping pretty soundly because I never hear the redecorating.
I have given up any thoughts of keeping a neat and tidy house while the “adolescents” are here. They are growing quickly and they all have feet bigger than I remember my other cats having, except for the Maine Coon I owned.

Good afternoon Betsy. Wonderful Cursday contributions, as always. You truly do not disappoint every Cursday. My favorite is the Frenchi not wanting to “do adult” today. LOL with that one. Like the family photos a bunch too. The kissing booth made me smile broadly!
My “adolescent kittens” have decided to redecorate my office and kitchen window over the sink by removing the curtains. My son put the kitchen one up again but I will not be putting the office ones back up. I shall try to get some blinds eventually.
Have given up trying to squeeze into the bedroom as the kittens are just too quick. I let them in until I am finished in there then I get out a favorite “fishing pole type toy” and drag it on the floor and all of them go berserk and follow me out and I set it up long enough to get my bedroom door closed again. When they sleep I will do things in there now.
They are growing fast, and have the biggest “murder mittens” which I’ve only seen on my Maine Coon cat I had. I think they may have some Maine Coon in them from their father. Oliver looks the most like a Maine Coon.
I’ve given up the idea to have a neat and tidy house until the number of “boarders” dwindle down.
Their taunting of Beau has diminished as he lets them know gently but firmly, he will no longer tolerate the abuse! Then I will find him sleeping in his bed with one or two of them sleeping with him.

Yes, blinds, definitely. I found myself nodding ferociously as I read your epistle of damages and nonstop go go go…and oh boy!! I can feel each of those “Murder Claws”. I may not have total recall, but those I can still remember, and feel from litters past. OUCH!!
I know you are ever watchful as the little tykes dart hither and yon at speeds people who have never entertained multiple teenaged kittens would swear we were making up. But we arent. I know, believe me! In other words, I hope you are what is called being ” situationally aware”, girl. One false step in the path of a guided missile… Well, you know 💕.

I always try to be “situationally aware”. I had my broken hip episode last April doing a good deed for my 85 year old neighbor. He and his wife are dear people and kind, God loving patriots. They are born and bred Texans. I love them bunches. I always try to make extra food to give them so they don’t have to worry about making something. This way I also know they are eating correctly.
He has a garden every year and I help him with it as much as I can and they share their bounty with me. It is a great feeling to help others and I really enjoy doing it. They’ve said many times that the Lord purposely put me next door to them. I think so too.
Who knows Betsy, maybe there is a novelette in me. I will seriously think about that. Thanks for the “brain candy”.

I’ve seen enough photos of pets and their owners to know how true it is, that resemblances are often uncanny, sis. The undeniable chemistry which attracts. Absolutely!! 😘
I first heard the Romeros when they were just getting started. At the time they were playing small towns, high school auditoriums, etc. and traveling in a station wagon. Their level of virtuosity, however, was riveting. I wasn’t playing guitar at the time—didn’t begin serious study unti I’d moved to Houston in the following year. My first guitar was an inexpensive Gibson C1, factory made and on the low-end of decent. But it was an honest instrument and served me well until I could afford something better. By then I knew a little more about classical guitar. Those early Romeros concerts were my catalyst, however.
I think there is every possibility that it was Pepe on that LP, Garrison. But I was trying to think how old he would have been, and as I hadn’t had even my first cup of tea yet when I posted, I just gave up.
It would make sense as in 1968 there would have been way fewer artists of his quality recorded. Not as now, and even then not too many who could equal the master of the guitar who I’m certain proficient artists today all listened to and tired to emulate.

as the song moves through its chords and B- and C-sections, Glenn mainly plays arpeggio-type phrases in a couple of repeated rhythmic patterns that hold fast – and differ – for each chord
but they’re not simple I-III-V chordal arpeggios for each chord, many of them are more in the way of melodic phrases and riffs, including octave jumps … but they do outline the chord changes as the song moves from chord to chord
and he’s not simply improvising, he’s worked out each of these phrases to fit the song and chords … his phrases and entire run at this song are composed
and I can’t think of ANY other player who would have come up with this
I dunno – if there are bassists out there who can comment, I’d appreciate your view
but to me, this is just a genius performance on Glenn’s part
another bit of small importance is that Glenn tended to anchor his hand well up the neck, at about the 7th fret, mostly
this differs from many/most rock bassists who tend to play out of root position down by the nut
real bass players can probably hear how this distinguished and individualized his playing
(I’m just a guitarist who’s played bass in bands secondarily)

COMMENTARY FOR EPHESIANS 6
“The duties of children and parents. (1-4) Of servants and masters. (5-9) All Christians are to put on spiritual armour against the enemies of their souls. (10-18) The apostle desires their prayers, and ends with his apostolic blessing. (19-24)
10-18 Spiritual strength and courage are needed for our spiritual warfare and suffering. Those who would prove themselves to have true grace, must aim at all grace; and put on the whole armour of God, which he prepares and bestows. The Christian armour is made to be worn; and there is no putting off our armour till we have done our warfare, and finished our course. The combat is not against human enemies, nor against our own corrupt nature only; we have to do with an enemy who has a thousand ways of beguiling unstable souls. The devils assault us in the things that belong to our souls, and labour to deface the heavenly image in our hearts. We must resolve by God’s grace, not to yield to Satan. Resist him, and he will flee. If we give way, he will get ground. If we distrust either our cause, or our Leader, or our armour, we give him advantage. The different parts of the armour of heavy-armed soldiers, who had to sustain the fiercest assaults of the enemy, are here described. There is none for the back; nothing to defend those who turn back in the Christian warfare. Truth, or sincerity, is the girdle. This girds on all the other pieces of our armour, and is first mentioned. There can be no religion without sincerity. The righteousness of Christ, imputed to us, is a breastplate against the arrows of Divine wrath. The righteousness of Christ implanted in us, fortifies the heart against the attacks of Satan. Resolution must be as greaves, or armour to our legs; and to stand their ground or to march forward in rugged paths, the feet must be shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Motives to obedience, amidst trials, must be drawn from a clear knowledge of the gospel. Faith is all in all in an hour of temptation. Faith, as relying on unseen objects, receiving Christ and the benefits of redemption, and so deriving grace from him, is like a shield, a defence every way. The devil is the wicked one. Violent temptations, by which the soul is set on fire of hell, are darts Satan shoots at us. Also, hard thoughts of God, and as to ourselves. Faith applying the word of God and the grace of Christ, quenches the darts of temptation. Salvation must be our helmet. A good hope of salvation, a Scriptural expectation of victory, will purify the soul, and keep it from being defiled by Satan. To the Christian armed for defense in battle, the apostle recommends only one weapon of attack; but it is enough, the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. It subdues and mortifies evil desires and blasphemous thoughts as they rise within; and answers unbelief and error as they assault from without. A single text, well understood, and rightly applied, at once destroys a temptation or an objection, and subdues the most formidable adversary. Prayer must fasten all the other parts of our Christian armour. There are other duties of religion, and of our stations in the world, but we must keep up times of prayer. Though set and solemn prayer may not be seasonable when other duties are to be done, yet short pious prayers darted out, always are so. We must use holy thoughts in our ordinary course. A vain heart will be vain in prayer. We must pray with all kinds of prayer, public, private, and secret; social and solitary; solemn and sudden: with all the parts of prayer; confession of sin, petition for mercy, and thanksgiving for favours received. And we must do it by the grace of God the Holy Spirit, in dependence on, and according to, his teaching. We must preserve in particular requests, notwithstanding discouragements. We must pray, not for ourselves only, but for all saints. Our enemies are mighty, and we are without strength, but our Redeemer is almighty, and in the power of his mighty we may overcome. Wherefore we must stir up ourselves. Have not we, when God has called, often neglected to answer? Let us think upon these things, and continue our prayers with patience.”

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Who is this enemy we fervently oppose?

Who is this supernatural enemy?

Louisa’s new pal – Olive!
She is a petite gal – about the same age as Wheezie (22) very timid, and scrawny (but we’ll fix that!)
So far 🤞 they are getting along together just fine. Louisa is very food centric, Olive takes all day to eat a quarter of her food – so, working on that.
She was only about 3 miles away on a horse farm/horse boarding facility, and the only burro. They thought her life would be better with one of her own. May passed 3 weeks ago and Louisa has been so lonely, So….we shall see, but, I think she may be the answer to my literal prayers! 🙏 🙏 🙏

MREs, way back when I served, we had rations and in the ration pack was tins of mystery meat, crackers, peanut butter, jam, gum, 3 stale cigarettes, a John Wayne can opener, coffee, tang, some matches and sometimes a cookie.
There’s a local store that had some MREs for sale and I picked up a few with the idea that I would use them on an upcoming backpacking trip. Last night I tried out 2 of them, one for my wife and one for me, the main was crap, worst than the old C and K Rations I remember. For that category of chow, I’ll use Mountain House Backpacker Meals and trail mix.
I test a new food at home before I take it out on the trail, yes, I learn from experience. The MRE did not give me
the chitz and that’s a good thing, the amount of toilet paper that comes with that MRE isn’t enough to blow your nose.
Rix Six: I keep a supply of vacuum packaed MREs (mostly vegetarian, lately) as well as freeze-dried meals. For fun, I tried one of the MREs. It was some kind of barbequed mystery meat. Basically, a sweet, red-colored and chunky slurry of calories. MREs are rather heavy, if portability and weight are a concern. But, for freeze-dried meals, you need warm water. What’s a gourmet to do during an emergency?
We should all have an emergency kit and stock it with what we deem is necessary for our own peace of mind.
I have my dad’s MRE can opener from when he enlisted in the army 1953. He kept it on his keychain until he passed a few years ago. I think it works better than a standard handheld opener with the handle and gear.
i was just thinking that husband’s small army can opener is much cleaner than the big ones that have rollers. Wish I could buy the simple ones

When you get mad/angry about ANYTHING! … you are making a mistake! If we all makes mistakes … and that is the TRUTH … well … remember that ….so does the next guy/gal next to you …make mistakes too! So what do you think you should do, if this is TRUE?!
It does tell you in the LORD’S PRAYER! It puts it in black and white! It is telling you … to do what?
Practice what it tells you to do! And practice it all the time! You make tons of mistakes and absolutely everyone around YOU makes mistakes!
Do you want to KILL THEM, fire them, ridicule them, embarrass them, … divorce them, cancel them from your life, … tell them they are trolls, do you call them idiots, … well, YES you do! All the time, … and since I expect YOU to make tons of MISTAKES … what do I say for you to do? Again, it is in the LORD’S PRAYER!
I have tons of time, eternity, for you to HEAR IT, and then work your BUTT OFF to actually “put it into practice”.
That is all I have to say! Stop doing slogan “posts” … and start practicing what you are told to do in the LORD’S PRAYER! Each line in that prayer has very deep message for you!

I just wanted to add one thing, that I think is very important for all of you to understand. It is about Jesus, and the one thing some scholar’s say about him from the account in your bible. It is said that Jesus did get MAD one time when he went into the Market Place in ‘temple’ … and upturned the tables and acted out on those people doing that.
Ok, understand Jesus, …he was very zealous and LOVED GOD, and knew the TRUE NATURE OF GOD, and knew GOD was GOOD and LOVING … and Jesus really, really, LOVED GOD! When these market people were shouting in the market place, they will saying things like “if you buy these doves, or turtles, or other animals, and the priest says a little prayer over the animal, the priest will send your “sins/bad deeds in those little animals, and your sins will be on this animal, and priest will KILL the animal… and your sins will be washed away! Jesus really LOVES animals, remember it is the other “flock that Jesus told you he came to HELP”, so Jesus was crying when he saw this, and in HIS ZEAL out of horror of what HE saw, upturned the tables. Jesus knew the TRUE nature of GOD, and to sacrifice these innocent animals “in the name of GOD”, sort of “broke Jesus’s HEART! …
I just thought you should know what Jesus really did …HE got zealous about this event. Jesus wanted to put an END to animal sacrifice… (and your medical/science labs still torture animals for the “good” of humans. I SEE that! And hope one day … you have some zeal in you, to feel what Jesus felt!
I do chat about “fun” stuff too, but before we get to the “fun stuff”, … I will sometimes try to teach you something that can change your HEART, in the right direction.

We seem to enlarge the evil in our lives, misery. Focus on God as if the misery is bumpy rocks on your path to paradise and you traverse them without giving glory to them. God is above, the blue sky, the rain, the thunder and lightning, stars, the magnificent sun, clouds that capture our imagination, not downward. You will soon see only the beauty not the opposition.
My son has OnX, a plant ID app, a mushroom ID app and a star map app, all of which are really cool. I solo hike a lot with my 2 dogs and I mentioned I was interested in getting some tracking collars for them but it takes an app to use it.
I should learn to keep my mouth shut, I was given an early birthday present, a smart phone. I hate those things and after messing around with it, I hate them even more. Every one of the apps that my son put on the phone wants permission to spy on me in order to use it.
For land navigation I will stick with a low budget handheld GPS, topo maps and a compass. For my dogs, they will still have to wear a shock collar when we go wilderness hiking, for plant ID, I’ll take my field guide with me and for mushrooms, I’ll stick with what I know and expand my knowledge one new edible mushroom a season.
Of all the apps, I really do like OnX, it’s a land navigation program with great mapping features.

Every living thing, no matter how tiny, has an impact on it’s environment. And today, as in the past, masses of tiny simple life forms, such as phytoplankton, have a huge impact on this planet’s climate. So humans have to have some impact, for better or worse.
The solution then , I believe, is to understand that we, in both our physical and spiritual, are part and parcel of those life forms. Yes ALL lifeforms have a “spiritual” attachment. As humans we are connected to the highest “dimension” – at least in our current state as humans on Earth. We were also given “dominion” over all the others, not like we are, as greedy owners/users, but as custodians. If we would understand that our very spiritual “collective conscience” (and singular) has a direct impact on all lifeforms, we’d hopefully also understand that keeping your “house” clean, functioning and healthy is good for you too. Like your house, it’s there for you, use it, enjoy it, take care of it and it will take care of you. “Nature” responds to us as we respond to it.

Last one – I know it’s still “evening” where you guys are, for me, I’m in tomorrow. Never really had a problem sleeping (partying until 3am did play a large part), I guess all of us, as we “slow down” tend to hit the sack earlier and earlier. However every now and again, turning off the “lights” becomes more and more difficult. The old noodle just won’t stop talking – so after a respectable listen, I often put on something like this – to sooth both of us.
