When my children were very young, I found candy hidden under my son’s bed. I dutifully marched him down to the local drug store where Mr. Laites (the owner) forgave him, thanked him for the apology, and told him he was always welcome in his store. A real gentleman.
Fast forward 20 years. My son and I are enjoying a beer together and that memory came up. He says to me, “You know Mom, I didn’t take that candy (my sister) did!”
He added that she was going through a time when she was always in trouble, and he just decided to take the blame!

And even funnier because I have a similar story.
When my two youngest were four and and three, they followed their 9 year old sister and her friend (who remains a friend to this day) to a small pharmacy about two blocks from where we lived on a quiet-ish street. They were out the door and at that pharmacy, owned by such a lovely man, when I turned my back for a moment.
I discovered this when the phone rang and it was Caroline screaming down the phone, “MOM!!! Court and Sarah are down here helping themselves to Mr Crook’s candy!!”
Outside of being horrified that they walked themselves there, holding hands all the way I’m told, the idea that they were “shoplifting” appalled me.I was in the car in a split second and making them apologize, just like you.” Golly I hadn’t thought of that in so long 😂 😂 😂

Takes a lot of courage to go to a horse market or horse auction. The lack of care is so disheartening.
We got the most beautiful palomino from an auction – he was on his way to the dog food market. The left side of his face was swollen – they said he’d been kicked in the eye. The moment I saw Bailey, I was in love with him and knew he had a brain tumor. (not much different than people medicine). He eventually went blind in both eyes, but still enjoyed life. Our burro, Lordy, and mule, Maude took superb care of him.
A very good friend of mine had a young daughter born with spina bifida. She couldnt walk, but she loved to ride! I must find the pictures of Jessie atop Bailey – both of them smiling!

Israel Update:
–Gaza: The plans are in place. For some 4-6 month cleaning up Gaza City. Bibi ordered to find ways to shorten the timeline. 60,000 reservists are getting called in , in addition to another 70,000 who are already there. In addition to the Regulars. The reservists will have to arrive at the begining of Sep. after the end of the summer break of the schools. Some five Divisions are preparing. There is already action going on. The whole day the IDF was bombing areas mainly at the outskirts of Gaza city but not only. Many casualties.
They start to “soften” the areas that they will move in to. Yesterday an IDF force exposed a tunnel at the edge of Gaza City. The fighting began.
The deeper they will get the more fights we will see.
There is a work done to set up the South for some 900,000 refugees from Gaza City.
Israel is putting together 16 Aid distribution Centers. In Gaza 12 additional Centers. I am not sure how much is done yet but it must be fast.
Israel didn’t take the ceasefire exchange deal that Hamas offered (which was also not final and had some points to drag the negotiations), as of now Israel is demanding all the hostages and disarming and expelling Hamas. If they make the offer “sweeter” Bibi may agree but the consensus in his surroundings is to go all the way. His right is demanding that he announce that “no partial deal”. He refuses to commit.
-Yesterday there was a coordinated unusual attack on an outpost for the IDF in South Gaza Khan Yunis city. About 18 terrorist emerged from tunnels fully dressed and armed with machine guns, RPG missiles and stretchers (to kidnap wounded or dead soldiers).
They managed to get into the outpost and fortunately they met a Special Force Unit there.
There were both face to face fights and the Unit called in an attack helicopter, two drones and tanks. 9 terrorists were killed and the others escaped. Those tunnels are now exposed and will be handled with whoever is in there. Some terrorist also got wounded and I saw a video with one who was captured but it’s not a verified video. One IDF soldier was badly wounded and two lightly wounded.
This on one hand is concerning as it is an area which is relatively “clean’. It also shows the contrast of what is happening when things are done right. This could have been a disaster.
It also shows that they could do something like that on a civilian town in Israel and the war is not over. But the soldiers were lions and handled it well. I will post a video. A tank driver runs over terrorists. One is aiming at him an RPG from zero distance.
–Syria: a delegation of US Representatives came and talked with Juliani the terrorist in a suit.
This is just after the massacre of the Druze that his soldiers were involved in. The West is not getting it? He was a personal friend of the leader of ISIS. A wanted terrorist.

The movie Patton was a serious influence on a generation of Americans in the middle of a extreme effort to tear down the image and destroy the psyche of American exceptionalism.
Patton did not attack the base of the bulge. He had his staff prepare three different plans of attack before he went to the Allied commanders meeting at Verdun. He wanted to attack the bulge at it’s base, but Ike and Bradley were against such an audacious move and Ike ordered Patton to attack through Arlon Belgium about half way between the base and the point of furthest penetration of the bulge with his objective being the relief of the critical cross roads at Bastogne.
The result was the Germans were allowed to mount a bloody fighting retreat that resulted in more casualties for the US than the defense and collapse of the American lines in the first phase of the battle and allowed the Germans to save a lot more troops than they would have had Patton been allowed to cut off the bulge at the base.
Patton’s attack plan against the base of the bulge would also required Montgomery to attack the base from the north and Monty was not the General that could organize such a move on the fly. Despite being named commander of all troops to the north of the Bulge there by leaving only Patton’s 3rd Army in Bradley’s Army group, Monty didn’t even bother to show up at the commanders meeting at Verdun sending his Chief of Staff to represent him.
Churchill was forced to make the speech to Parliament stating that the Bulge had been a great American victory because Montgomery had declared in a press release that HE was the savior of the situation and his statement was universally broadcast in the British Press as a statement of fact.
A major contributor to Patton’s victory was the use of the proximity fuze which had been used in antiaircraft artillery for some time but which had not been released for use by ground unit artillery because of fear that the Germans would copy it if the shells were captured intact. The emergency of the German attack prompted Ike to release the use of the fuze by allied ground units. It was very effective with high explosive shells but when combined with White Phosphorous shells what Patton called “the funny fuze” was absolutely devastating to German infantry in uncovered defilade positions.

We could supply a secret weapon but because Bradley had prevented shipment of winter coats, overshoes, and various other items of winter gear, our soldiers suffered terribly. Bradley made the decision to give food, ammunition, spare parts, and especially gasoline priority over the winter gear during the later stages of the great exploitation of the breakout from Normandy to keep the forces moving.
All of this because of Monty’s failure to take the ports of Antwerp promptly as ordered by Ike. So as the allied forces moved further from the coast logistics became a massive nightmare and the majority of supplies of everything had to be moved by truck (The Red Ball Express) and other such operations that are less well known.
So US soldiers cut up bed sheets for use as over whites, and suffered the highest percentage of cold weather injuries the US Army ever experienced in it’s history during that exceptionally cold and snowy winter. More casualties were incurred by the US soldiers due to the weather and battle conditions than due to enemy fire during the battle.

The memory came back to me around an hour ago at 4am … I was walking through the catholic school outside it, and walking probably to the candy store, a block a way. I heard a “VOICE who spoke to me in very DEEP VOICE, … and I’m not sure what he said, He could have said something like …HE was GOD, not sure, but he told me to go into the Church on the school grounds, go to back row and knell and pray to GOD. So I walked into the church, it was empty, and got on my knees and started praying to GOD. And I said something like “Oh Thou who art most HIGH, and used very flowery language , … the VOICE said cut the crap or something like that …and said “talk to me in “real” way, not “fake way”…. what are you really about, … and just have a chat with ME. I was very shocked, … sat in pew, and just started talking in regular way to GOD, using real normal speech … but not outloud. I can not remember anything I said or that the VOICE said to me. The only thing I can remember is THE VOICE wanted me to talk to HIM in normal way, and not “fake way”.
I think I was maybe in first grade , can’t remember. This event made quite an impression on me, the Voice seemed kind, and just wanted to get to know me. I lived 2 houses away from this church and school. I’m not a catholic, just a regular kid.
Before I attended school (maybe at 4-5 years old , I remember in my backyard everything was very, colorful, and a saw angels and cartoon like looking animals … and everything seemed very, very alive. I can’t remember what they said. At the time it didn’t seem unusual at all, and at the time I didn’t call those beings “angels”, … not sure I had “thoughts going in my head”… these “beings hung out in the garden, and some seemed attached to trees … like they “played in the garden/trees”. They seemed “nice”.
Also a few years later, I would be walking to school, and I saw beings maybe 30-100 feet tall, but were connected to weather … some hung out as wind, and clouds, and other stuff, moving about, they didn’t seem to be paying any attention to me, almost like beings that bring the change of “seasons”, … like the smell of autumn, or other changes.
I didn’t really put much attention to it, they were doing “their thing”.
Did you guys have very early experiences of spiritual stuff, I didn’t at the time think it unusual, … but now that I have an older man’s mind, it does sound strange. Once I learned to pay attention to my teachers, and being punished if I day-dreamed. It all gradually stopped. And learned to pay attention to physical world stuff only. But physical world stuff seemed very “dead, mean-spirited, cold, judgemental” … it was so harsh and ANGRY. I came from nicer place before I was born, and this earth-place seemed like punishment. I didn’t want to be here on earth. Scary and frightening.
