My question – for US based bloggers, which the Europeans might decide to label as journalists, if said bloggers are flying to a nation and that airplane lands to take on new passengers, refuels or is an airport where said online bloggers need to change planes to continue their trip, would such individuals be arrested in that country where the interim pit stop occurred claiming ‘overriding general interest’ to keep said bloggers offline?
Will the EU expand their definition to include US citizens for their tweets, thinking of how Ricky Vaughn arrest for those posts during the 2016 campaign where Douglas Mackey was posting anti-Hillary memes and ended up in jail.
Speech is definitely under attack.
Will Europe then expand it to those Americans visiting European countries who shared or liked tweets the EU doesn’t like, as they do in the UK?

The first 3 have been around for years. Benzalkonium chloride, for decades if my memory is correct, like since 1935.

In early 2020 there was a story on NPR about the negative effects of using antibacterial hand soap. The problem was how it interfered with our natural immunity. Never heard anymore on that subject in the following months.

Triclosan is a known carcinogenic…and its in (or was) Colgate toothpaste among other products, including hand sanitizer…can we say ‘covid’?
Back in 1990 or so…a major university hospital was doing ‘research’ tests on swabbing staff members hands before and after using the hand gel sanitizers.
I taught at university back in the 1990s. One of my students wrote a very well researched paper on the hazards of using anti-bacterial soaps. She totally convinced me, and I have never used them. I feel all the evidence has been out there for decades.

All soap is antibacterial. Lye is sodium hydroxide and soap is a chemical reaction between lye and fat of some type. I think the hand sanitizers are going to be more toxic in the long term by killing off good bacteria than any soap.

To say “they poisoned us” is an over the top reaction. I agree that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, but to ascribe nefarious motives ignores common sense and human nature.
It’s well known science that exposure to small doses of microbes is your best defense, because you create antibodies. When you do things like excessive handwashing and overuse antibiotics you are essentially training your immune system to do nothing in times of crisis.
Here’s another example. I made the mistake of taking pro-biotics to help my digestion. Instead, the bacteria replaced all the good bacteria that my body had accumulated over 40 years. I got pink eye for weeks. My teeth and gums began decaying rapidly, and it did nothing for my digestion, which was my only reason for taking it.
On the flip side, the creation of penicillin and pasteurization improved millions of lives in an era when the average life expectancy was 45 year old.
I can see both arguments coexisting. The part that doesnt coexist with me is Federal mandates. Fluorinated water. Mandatory covid shots.
In todays age, any potential mistake, whether being too cautious or not cautious enough, becomes a multibillion lawsuit.

The upshot is that the germ in question that is alleged to be in the “anti bacterial soap’….is resistant to the every day antibacterial…the alleged germ is called Burkholderia Cepacia Complex and has sever variants. The germ seems to affect those with cystic fibrosis.
An anti bacterial soap has bacteria in it…go figure.
It, the germ, is not affected with a good old standby known as Benzyl Alkonium chloride…which has been around since 1935 and unless doctored, was very effective for keeping wounds clean, such as an episiotomy.

But I’m tired of the pretending by many posters that the ever increasing trolls and AI bots are just “honest disagreement” that must be tolerated regardless of how much space they consume.
You nailed it. There is usually a controller with a couple of bots. They the bots to upvote the controller comments, so it looks like a bunch folk’s disagreeing with the topic.

What you demand is pre-filtering of posts you alone consider off the topic of Presidential Politics. The very antithesis of tolerance.

As I mentioned, I like the discussion aspect, the jokes, the camaraderie, and that a moron such as myself gets to participate with those who are very informed. It prevents an echo chamber effect that likely benefits all.
I was not suggesting the format be changed, just coming up with a random suggestion on how to highlight the meatier and more informative on-topic posts for those with less time to keep scrolling. A filter that doesn’t eliminate – but highlights the more profound comments, (in the opinion of the site admins) if the reader desires to turn it on.
I get the implementation of it likely makes it a non starter and Sundance frequently summarizes his research. It was just a random thought.
The straw man argument was moving the discussion past the very real
problem of paid trolls, (not just in this site but everywhere). It’s not “differing opinions” but influence operations meant to distract from the meaningful exchange of ideas.

I’d like to add that a primary purpose of the trolling is to influence people who may be still formulating their ideas about a topic.
This is why the advice “don’t feed the trolls” is not always useful. It seems reasonable, but it isn’t in our best interest to let the trolling influence go unchallenged.
The most successful trolls are ones who take the time to “blend in” on topics and then when one of topics they target arises, they troll. Another effective trick is to pack an innocuous comment with a trolling influence.

Stuff we would like a definitive answer on and perhaps regulations or notifications on the label? The povidone iodine one got me as the hospice gave it to me for my husband. I couldn’t use it however because he was in so much pain that the mere pressure of the swab was too much. Went back to liquid.

I agree this happens a lot, and sometimes I wish I didn’t have to scroll quite so much over a lot that is, frankly, repetition.
Sundance has a rule about please read previous comments so you don’t duplicate posts; many of us don’t have time to read the references until the second or third time around, but often it’s just … duplication, taking up space.
I think however much of this sort of off topic discussion is due to the fact that, after going through so much together and for so any years, we’re a community. We share, we share our concerns, experiences, our links, our views of politics, and sometimes of the rest of the world.
The whole third of first page is off topic. I don’t mind scrolling by ….but just stating the fact . I call them the early morning group. Then we have the war group and the history group. Various media reports in Europe as well as US state-funded publications have observed and reported on an unusually high number of air defense systems around President Vladimir Putin’s secluded Valdai residence.
RFE/RL affiliate Radio Svoboda has claimed that’s were Putin’s girlfriend and their children live, according to a new investigation. “Satellite images and photos from the Yandex.Zerkala mapping service show at least 12 Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile systems, many mounted on elevated towers, encircling the compound known as Uzhin,” the Amsterdam-based Moscow Times writes of the report.
Only two such units had been publicly and visually identified in the area before the new satellite imaging and mapping analysis.
“By comparison, in the Moscow metropolitan region, home to more than 20 million people, authorities have positioned around 60 such systems since the start of the war in Ukraine — just five times more than the number protecting the Valdai site,” Moscow Times continues.
So if it is accurate that at least a dozen Pantsirs are now protecting Putin’s residence alone, this is indeed a significant build-up and density of anti-air units protecting a single high value location.
The ‘extra’ units were reportedly redeployed from the St. Petersburg region – which could leave this northern and second most populous Russian city more exposed to drone attacks.
