Interesting that a reciprocating saw was selected. Mabry’s mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway was both a grist mill for milling flour and cornmeal and a circular sawmill. It also featured several other water powered tools inside. Personal observation is that the park service and too many visitors have seriously degraded what once was.

Not much new to tell about “Kitten central”. Monday I left my computer for a minute and came back and my screen was upside down. I didn’t know your screen could do that. I had no idea how to fix it. Text my son and he told me what buttons to hit on the keyboard simultaneously to bring the screen upright. Whew, glad it was an easy fix. Needless to say I don’t leave the computer open when I have to leave the office now. They will walk all over the keyboard and mess with the screen.
They pulled down one of the curtains in my office and I haven’t bothered to put it back up. What amazes me is how fast they are when they run! I had forgotten that. As I’ve described, it is “chaotic joy” around here.
At the moment they are sleeping but not for very long they will be crawling all over the house getting into anything not put away. The world is their toy, or so they think it is! Ha Ha.

Curtains just beg to be climbed it seems. Anything with fabric. We brought two expensive Laura Ashley wing chairs with us when we returned from the UK. The first lot of feral kittens we socialized thought they were perfect for their climbing expeditions. And so one is shredded in the back. What to do…resourceful me draped a lovely throw over the damaged goods, and so now no one can tell.
Thank you for that laugh, sis. One day they’ll assume their rightful cat personae…sleeping…and won’t have time for that sort of monkey business. I hope (crossed fingers) 😂😘👍🏻

I hurried to put out the bird feeders and food for the squirrels which are early partakers, but they’d given up on me. Normally a full house but it seems since they found the diner closed they’ve hurried thither and yon to find one open.
I see that Phoenix registered 120 degrees the other day and hope in your part of the state, you, Lloyd, and all your crew are managing to stay out of the worst of this debilitating heat. Here comes my rallying cry…

I moved from Kentucky to the Seattle area 10 years ago. The beautiful summers here are my only consolation.
Fortunately we don’t keep score on these branches. 🙂

I remember that night well, too. Utterly horrifying. It was live on tv here in California as it burned down.
One of the things I learned from that fire is the importance of where emergency exit signs are placed in buildings. It was pointed out that they were always placed high on the walls so they could be seen.
The only problem with that is the smoke starts at the top of the ceiling and quickly obscures the signs. I would have thought that fire would change the placement of those signs, or at the least, require additonal signage lower on the walls where smoke would not quickly obscure them.
All emergency exit signs I still see are at the top of the walls and none are placed lower where they could be seen if in a smoke filled room.

“David praises God for protecting his people. (1-10) And for cause to praise him. (11-20)
(1-10) If we would praise God acceptably, we must praise him in sincerity, with our whole heart. When we give thanks for some one particular mercy, we should remember former mercies. Our joy must not be in the gift, so much as in the Giver. The triumphs of the Redeemer ought to be the triumphs of the redeemed. The almighty power of God is that which the strongest and stoutest of his enemies are no way able to stand before. We are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth, and that with him there is no unrighteousness. WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

“In her later life, she was diagnosed with rheumatism, neuralgia, diabetes, and cataracts, although her spirit was never crushed. She continued to fight for the cause of women’s suffrage after she went almost blind in 1914. She died twelve years later. Her works have since been printed on United States postage stamps and her works have sold for as much as $2.9 million at auction.
Yes, there really is more of a pensive feel to her paintings. And the subjects aren’t all what would be called classically beautiful. I like that they are more realistic.
As a boy, I recognized that the beautiful natural world and abundant life were created and felt awe, joy and appreciation. As a teenager, I spoke, from my heart, to God to express my gratitude for his creation, my life, and sending his son Jesus for our redemption; to ask forgiveness of my sins through Jesus and repent; to make my heart pure for Jesus to live and shine his light, truth and courage through me; and guide my life. The next day, I arrived home to find that my father had left. I felt stunned but also calm. One year later, I was injured playing a sport, ending all school athletics for me. I began to live only within the confines of the tangible world and popular culture while neglecting my spiritual dimension, drifting away from who I am as a person with little inner happiness. My life was off course and going nowhere. Then, I received a tremendous gift of love from my future wife coming into my life. Soon after, a phone call with my mom regarding the continuing bad effects of their divorce caused me to clearly see and feel the true sadness of my family break-up, and I sobbed uncontrollably, finally releasing my pent-up feelings. I earnestly prayed to renew my relationship with Jesus/God and specifically and clearly asked for guidance for my life. A few weeks later, my future wife asked me what I really wanted to become. The answer came up out of me as if it had been there all along waiting to be acknowledged as though I had been hardwired to follow a course but was only then realizing it. From that point forward, all I needed to do was my best through the challenges and sometimes struggles that awaited me, and I was provided with the strength and support to succeed in a career and provide for my future family. During our wedding ceremony at the church, I was unexpectedly overcome by what I believe was the Holy Spirit, the power and intensity of which felt stronger than love. Witnessing my children being born granted a rare glimpse into the miracle and truth of creation, with no faith needed, and that love is the most powerful force on earth as I would give up my life, in an instant, without any hesitation, to protect my child and spouse. When each of two elderly family members passed away, there was a surprising sense of peace, a holy peace, that permeated the entire room at the moment of death, and for several minutes after, that all those present felt and acknowledged in whispers. Right after my mom’s funeral driving home, I received a clear, telepathic communication in her voice that said, “It’s okay honey, I’m alright”, which is exactly the way she would say it. Looking back, it is clear to me that a path was provided for my life that was beyond chance or self-realization. The contrast between before versus after receiving the gift of my wife, renewing my relationship with Jesus/God and asking for guidance was too great to attribute to me alone or random events.

re: summer. This is what we wait for all the rest of the year
It was good to pull a smile out of a veteran from the Army 1st Calvary. : )
I asked the person what was the toughest moment, when serving.
The aged veteran reluctantly said a few straight faced, reflecting back in time words:
‘rescuing concealed, guarded, prisoners of war’
( that is a dangerous task that requires BOTH tender loving care,
while also defending from attack by guards )
I said, that is about a tough of task as there is, on this planet. (he of course, already knew, first hand)
I said, that people around here that complain about piddly things,
do not have a clue.
I thanked him for his service.
Then, I said that I was going outside -and would complain about
the weather. ; )
The veteran laughed, and smiled in appreciation.
It was good to pull a smile and laugh from a veteran…and the
persons last days here on earth ..
The person earned a smile.
Freedom,
is not free.
Suggestion,
become aware that there are many opportunities to thank a veteran,
and give them a moment, or more, of appreciation.
