Things are not always what they seem.

This a bit of a departure from our usual subjects, but still interesting/relevant.
AI music has advanced to the point where it’s getting harder and harder to tell the difference. In fact, this AI band has 100s of thousands of plays on Spotify. The AI band even has bios for each AI member. I bet many that listened don’t even realize that the band does not exist.
It is also possible that this AI band has AI listeners to boost its visibility. Because, why not?
AI music as advanced exponentially in the last 2 years. AI video has made even more remarkable advancements. I have now seen entire skits that are completely AI generated. They still have some “uncanny valley” aspects, but the line is more blurred than ever.
We are sleep walking into insanity and a reality bending existence. There is next to nothing we can do to stop it at this point.

Interesting……..I’ve noticed there have been three 50-50 tie votes during the BBB amendment votes that VP Vance was not there to break the tie. I always thought the VP had to cast a deciding vote when there was a tie, but it seems that is not the case in this long drawn out voting kabuki extravaganza. Wonder why not and what the Parliamentarian had to say.

The amendments they are voting on are required to have 60 votes to pass (thanks to the unelected, Harry Reid appointee… the Parliamentarian).

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but in the event of a tie, the amendment fails. The VP vote would only be needed to break a tie if they wanted the amendment to pass.

The 10-year moratorium on individual States creating laws to regulate artificial intelligence companies and the elimination of illegals on various Medicaid programs both were in there so that each side of the aisles, once those were removed, can all tell their constituents “we won” – while
the main gist, the guts, of the One Big Beautiful Bill gets passed.
Those other two items can be dealt with in the upcoming actual budget battles or through strict adherence of existing law, such as it’s already illegal for people here illegally to get SNAP benefits.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner. Politicians can keep their talking point narratives while real change, embedded in the bill, untouched by amendments, continue to march forward.

Now that Senate has passed THEIR version of the BBB, I assume that the House and Senate go to “conference” to merge the 2 bills to eliminate differences.
So does this “conference” then submit the merged bill to BOTH chambers where it has to pass in both?

The house could pass the Senate version, they could amend it, and send it back to the Senate (ping-pong until success or failure), or as you said, go to conference to create a version that must be passed by both the house and senate.
so they are not done yet.
My understanding is after the conference, it will be voted on again by both houses. What I am not clear on, is the power of the parliamentarian after it returns to the Senate again.

I spent some time with his Grok. It was difficult because it loved to regurgitate analysis
by the MSM or think-tanks. I gave it a “pro-tip”: The studies start with the answer, and
create reasons why they are right. Use first-principles.
First step: the Congressional Budget Office assumes 1.8% real GDP growth. With inflation of 2.2%
that becomes 4% nominal GDP growth. Note: Atlanta Fed estimates real growth rate.
(see https://www.atlantafed.org/cqer/research/gdpnow).
Note: US GDP was $29.1 trillion in 2024.
Second step: apparently CBO uses debt held by the public, excluding intragovernmental debt
(e.g. Social Security trust funds), about $28.2 trillion vs gross national debt
($36 trillion in 2024).
Third step: the key metric US debt/US GDP is 28.2/29.1 = 99% (I know Elon focuses on the
$36T number, which gives a ratio of 1.24%)
After a lot of back and forth with Grok, assuming POTUS agenda is implemented, in 2035 we have:
US GDP $53T, US Debt $37T, Debt-to-GDP Ratio 70%. Note: below 80% is “sustainable.”
How I got those numbers might be too much in the weeds, but briefly, additions to 1.8% real
rate growth:
Investments $300 B per year (e.g. Apple, Saudis etc) 1.0%
BBB full expensing/deregulation 0.4%
Reduced Trade Deficit ($500B – cut in half) 1.0%

Actual addition to the debt is reduced by
BBB budget cuts $2T/10 years
Tariff income of 10% on $4.5T (2022) gives $450B. I assumed $300B, or $3T/10 yrs
Lower interest rates (as debt-to-gdp ratio drops) $5T/10 yrs
higher income due to higher GDP $2.5T/10 yrs
Sum: $12.5T/10 years NOT added to the debt.
CBO assumes as a baseline that $20T will be added. So the BBB will add 20-12.5 = $7.5T
(notice that is still above the $5T debt ceiling, so in the future it must be raised!)
SUMMARY: the key index of financial health will drop below 80% and there is no fiscal
crisis. Of course, if the commies get back in, all bets are off.
The Senate version will be the final version as President Trump can’t afford to have any changes come back to the Senate and he will force Johnson to pass it as it is now. The President is counting on growth to save him from the debt monster he is creating with all of this short term financing which is at a record high and which he was a critic of when Yellen did it. But now that Bessent has done it on steroids it is ok. Let us all pray that he is right because if not, his successor will have hell to pay.
I think the difference is she had a choice and didn’t have to. Bessent doesn’t have a choice. I think with short term they are hoping Powell comes to his senses with more time post tariffs to show inflation not a problem then he will lower for them to get longer paper. It is a gamble truly.
Although, I am in a position where thru some sold inherited property, I have a good chunk in 7 month CDs at about 4% that I haven’t touched principle in about 2 years (3 CD cycles). I have come to understand how rich people watch their money do the work for them. Of course, I would be more than happy to give those rates up in a nanosecond for low federal rates. But let’s also be fair, saving seniors who have been screwed for years are getting a nice piece of the action now.

I went through the airport in MN a few years ago and one of the persons checking IDs as a pre-screen for TSA was a young Somali woman in traditional garb. She obviously had no idea what and why she was doing what she was doing. She was being put into position as I walked up. The intentional humiliation of Americans did come to mind. I handed my ID and ticket over and she sort of looked at it (I doubted she knew what it was or could read/interpret it) and then at me and her eyes were totally vacant-I saw little, if any sign-not even a flash- of intelligence. This is what we have imported into our country. It is not going to end well.
One of the many reasons I will likely never fly again. I am not going to pay to be humiliated.
It’s always been terrifying for me. Throw in some same sex groping and rude handling from idiots and it’s not worth it. Not to mention lost luggage.

It is still early in this administration. While it’s not as many of us hoped, it is perhaps as good as within the realm of the possible. Trump still needs to govern first as well as set things right. The statement will specify that UPenn will adopt biology-based definitions for the words ‘male’ and ‘female’ pursuant to Title IX and consistent with President Trump’s Executive Orders “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism” and “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports”;
UPenn will post the statement in a prominent location on its main website and on each of its websites for women’s athletics;
UPenn will rescind any guidance which violated Title IX, remove or revise any internal and public-facing statements or documents that are inconsistent with Title IX, and notify all staff and women’s athletics of all such rescissions; and
UPenn will send a personalized letter of apology to each impacted female swimmer.

I still do not understand why so many people moved mfg to chyyyyna. Why? No one has been able to provide specific, believable reasons. Taxes? Labor costs? Why? I still can’t believe that shipping stuff from there to here has been a good idea and that making things here in the U.S. is so much more expensive.

And the Democrats have him pegged as a guy who’s sort of sitting in the Cabinet meeting talking about how can we make billionaires richer. He’s the opposite of that. He’s a genuine populist,” Kennedy said.
