When I was young with preconceived ideas about matchy matchy everything but especially china, my inner self would have been disturbed by mismatched cups and saucers.
Then one day I attended an afternoon tea where the hostess had the most astounding collection of different teacups….at least 24. The table she set was a thing of absolute beauty, and I was cured of my affliction.
When I moved overseas and became quite the devotee of the English propensity for mixing colours and patterns in and on everything, the cure was made permanent. My younger self would have said, “This doesn’t work!”
But my reformed self said, “Oh MY!!! This was my face -> 😍!!!!
And while as of now, unfortunately, my love affair with Britain has been killed off, my absolute affection for old English houses and cottages and all which goes with them remains….fabrics, paints, glorious whimsical patterns which shouldn’t work but do in the most marvelous unboring way…all of it.

After years of dabbling in various creative mediums, and not having found a focus on a specific -nor singular art form, it came blaring one day, “PATTERNS!!!!”.
All the while, not realizing that there was always a very definite passion for patterns….
-it was there in just about every body of my work.
I did however always mix tableware settings
-and got away with doing so as a youngster; not because Ma approved, but, because we used what we had.
Love this, sis. You got your “eye” from someone in your family. That artistic gene which allows you to express yourself, your individuality, your glorious “difference”. I bet you were a standout all right, and I say BRAVA to that.

As I’ve said before, one of the best days of my life was sitting in my SIL’s secluded garden drinking tea from mismatched mugs and eating off equally mismatched plates. The simple and unaffected life…
I brought back all the interior mags I collected over 20 years In Wales. Thomas Wolfe who said one cannot to home again was right in general. But I find that I can actually for a few glorious moments if I sit with a coffee and go through them and seeing those delicious pattern and colour concoctions.
Suffice it to say, there isn’t a doubt in my mind you would have thrived in the world I left, P…the landed gentry always dressed as you describe yourself as having done. You would have for right in 💕

At certain times of the year, there are literally millions/billions? of lady bugs smothering the bases of the telescopes – a thick red carpet. Quite the vision and a ton of good luck!

That’s a BIG bird if she’s 70 feet up! We have a Robin still nesting in our front tree. This nest is getting re-used year after year. It’s just a bit taller than me, so I can’t see what Robins got in there – or if she’s just resting herself there. Though mating season goes until June – it seems way too hot to me to hatch some little fledglings.

Yes, it is a Godsend for sure. We’ve only had 1 real rain in the past 6 months or so. Our well is struggling to keep up with demand, as is our neighbor’s. There’s supposed to be a chance on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday coming up. 🙏 🤞

Good morning, lady. We were in our 4th year of drought. Filled up the lakes and the river. Praying the dry spell is over and praising Him. We use our well for watering only. The water is very hard with the added pleasure of rust in it. So we have an ozone system to remove the rust. When we used it for the house I had to change the filter weekly. After we switched to a rain collection system a few years ago, I can get away with changing the well filter monthly when watering. But going to rain collection was one of the best decisions we have ever made.

We actually have a 600 gallon rain collector off our garage roof – but no rain to fill it!
Our well water tastes wonderful and we use it for everything – but, it is hard water and makes it difficult to keep fixtures etc clean looking.

Ahhhh…. would sure be nice to turn that mud into some fine topsoil for you. Praying for a moderation to the rains. Would be happy to send you some of ours at varying intervals. We have had so much our water table is high and thus the ants are marching on parade…. everywhere. Need to treat again with food-grade diatomaceous earth… but I’m wary due to our little Praying Mantis darlings.
Use a Honda self-propeled, not a Riding lawnmower.

Good afternoon Betsy. Love all the cat images you have provided us with.
Cleo update:
All the kittens are eating regular food and are using the littler box. As soon as I open the door, they are climbing the gate to get out and Beau my dog is standing right there and they have no fear of him at all.
They are ravenous most of the time and am feeding them 4 times a day, in a big glass pie pan, so they can all get in to eat. One chooses to eat out of mom’s dish, and one is still wanting to nurse, along with the solid food.
I’ve figured it out to be about 4 hours out of my day taking care of these seven “toddlers”. About an hour every feeding time, to clean up bowls, do littler boxes, sweep up litter, (they are quite aggressive with the litter)!
My ankles and above on the legs are scratched from their little razor sharp claws, as they want to play with my toes and hug my ankles. I just use cotton pads and swab them with alcohol when I’m done taking care of them.
They are currently sleeping as it is quiet, (they have toys they play with that jingle).
I’m still considering keeping one of the males, but am not sure yet. I’m going to try to get them to the vet next week. They are still too small to put flea stuff on them and I have seen them scratching and have seen an occasional flea on them and mom.

Good evening Betsy. Time consuming yes, but they do make me laugh a lot. They are starting to arch their back and skip sideways which is too funny. I wish I could figure out a way for the Treepers to see them before they leave to their forever homes. I’ll continue to work on trying to get a couple of photos on here.
I will miss them, but I will keep momma and Percy and possibly a boy. Beau will at least have Cleo and Percy to enjoy.

Just now climbing onto this spare branch. Had a most pleasant lunch at my favorite down-the-street taqueria. My bestie tells me that I’ve lost so much weight (55lbs as of yesterday) that I’m now looking a bit “frail” and suggested that it might be a good idea if I stop trying to loose weight. I’m already down 3 and-a-bit waist sizes so I’ve decided to follow her advice. She’s also my former department chair so I long ago recognized that her advice is both well-intentioned and good for me.
Instead of my usual taco and charro beans, this morning I changed to another favorite—a chiliquillies plate. This is a traditional Mexican breakfast/brunch dish, a mixture of eggs, chorizo, tortilla chips combined with refried beans, potatoes, and freshly made corn tortillas. As you might imagine the combination is not only delicious but quite filling. Loved it. 🙂
As I’ve mentioned before, this small 3rd generation owned taqueria is a neighborhood institution. Although reasonably close by, I’m often the only anglo in the place. There was a time in Texas where you’d note a pervasive sense of social-distance (“otherness”). This was common 5 or 6 decades ago but simply no longer exists here today. In fact, this morning some kind soul anonymously bought my food. Little ‘Tink sends you her customary, very gentle afternoon purr.
Sorry I am so late back, my friend … WOW!! That much? Oh my word!! Well one thing for sure, your health will be better for that loss, Garrison. And you did it smartly, not through a diet, which I consider to be a four letter word. I lost about the same as you have before I came back to the States by doing as you did…cutting back, cutting out, and cutting down. Everyone needs a friend such as your very good one who is sincerely concerned for your welfare. I’m glad you have her near…and that you enjoyed your breakfast outing today. That’s nice 😌💕 And even though I’ve eaten, you’ve made me hungry again! 😂

People that do remodeling of kitchens are another good source. If your there when they are pulling them out, sometimes you can get them for free because otherwise they go into a dumpster.
High end kitchens are the best. A lot of Doctors and Lawyers get the kitchen redone every 10 years or so, even if nothing is wrong with it.
Habitat for Humanity is another good source. The one in Indy has all kinds of new stuff. Furniture, cabinets, even windows!

we know someone in the construction/building/remodeling biz who did just about his whole house in throw-aways from high end stuff (of “the rich people”).
from granite countertops, to wrought iron railings, to chandeliers, to cabinetry, and even some brick and plasterwork. Also some outdoor pavers.
he’s a mason by trade, and was able to put everything in place to where his own home is very lovely!
A man that lives down the street from my father remodels kitchens for clients like I described. He has solid cherry wood cabinets in the garage and basement for his workshop tools, etc. because the clients do not want to bother reselling them.

If you could see two oil paintings I have in my home… they are very similar to this. One has a seaside… beautiful flowers and colors everywhere. This is a very specific genre of art, but I’m unsure the name… I think it is Renaissance.
I imagine the shops are fragrant with fresh breads, herbs, and coffees wafting through the air… your lovely music piping through the streets. People smiling and sharing.
Life is serious there but only in cherishing and nourishing one another. Keeping its streets clean, everything in rich quality, brilliant colors, and good working order.
Every shop keeper serious in their production of fine pasta, rich sauces, toothy breads, fine olives, the freshest fish caught from the local pier where kitties go to indulge in scraps as the fisherman process their catch, and the florist with hypnotizing aromas and most ginourmous blooms, the leatherbound volumes of quality books in the town bookstore.
Custom roasted coffees and freshly pressed into the finest brews, served in porcelain cups with the cups clinking gently on the saucers. A small pistachio or chocolate biscotti positioned next to the silver tea spoon. Fresh cream from the neighborhood dairy.. with their artisan cheeses. One wouldn’t need sugar for their coffee… its perfect alone with just cream. There’s a small glass canister of doggie cookies for the faithful friends who accompany their masters on their daily walks.
The hardware shop owner versed in everything from plumbing to sheet metal. He’s brawny and jolly, fully immersed in the apprenticeship of the town youth and the town youth love to learn from him.
All townspeople know each and everyone and each has his or gifts or skills to share with one another. No widow or child is left on their own and are easily adopted to the town’s heart. The youth take care of and learn from their elders and grow in wisdom and strength.
Families stay together and on Sundays the church bells ring and if someone is missing, the towns folk immediately check on them. Because Sunday just isn’t Sunday without each other together.
They break bread and don’t break hearts and promises.
Sigh. My town doesn’t exist on this earth… but I look forward to it in Heaven. I strive towards its perfection.
For now, I’ll enjoy your music and visions… during my downtime… until I’m forcibly and reluctantly dragged back into the fray… kicking and screaming as I violently protest.
Those ejits should leave me alone… in the quiet café… and do not disrupt my peace.

Lance Corporal Brady A. Gustafson fought off nearly 100 Taliban fighters from the turret of an MRAP… after his leg was blown off. In July 2008, the 21 year old Marine manned his M240B in the MRAP turret. The vehicle took point of a mounted column patrolling through Shewan, Afghanistan. Suddenly, a complex ambush hit the column from all around, initiated by an RPG aimed at Gustafson’s MRAP. The RPG penetrated the vehicle’s hull and detonating inside. Flames shot up through the turret, searing his face. He stood to take aim at the surrounding muzzle flashes, but his right leg buckled beneath him in excruciating pain. Gustafson looked down and found his leg mangled beyond recognition, with bone exposed and his booted foot dangling by a shred of muscle.
Despite the injury, Gustafson resumed shooting all around. As he fired, a Marine inside the MRAP applied a tourniquet to his leg. Gustafson finished a 200 round belt, loaded another, and returned to his war. An RPG struck the vehicle behind Gustafson, bursting it into flames. He shouted to the driver of the MRAP, who had just regained consciousness, to reverse direction. They pushed the flaming vehicle backward out of the kill zone, allowing the occupants to safely exit. Gustafson blew through another 200 rounds and reloaded once more before finally relenting to medical treatment and allowing another Marine to take over the turret. His fearless resolve and courageous initiative saved the column from destruction, and ensured not a single Marine was lost that day. For his actions, LCpl Gustafson received the Navy Cross. He left the Marine Corps the following year as a Corporal.
I wonder what he said to his young son…it seems there might have been some tears wiped away.

I didn’t have much money so I put together a couple of kites and we drove my Triumph roadster down to the seawall. She was having a great time flying her kite over the ship channel, teasing the sailors on the passing ships by lowering her kite over their decks. When I turned to look at her, she was smiling at me. Standing with her back to the afternoon sun she was radiant, her beautiful red hair backlit by the fading light . . . In that moment I instantly fell in love with her. We had 55 years together. 🙂

Spent a little time on Bourbon Street in the 90s … my favorite haunt was a place called Cajun Cabin, on Royal St I think.
They had bands in 2 rooms. In one room was a band called Mamou, they were quite accomplished and were local favorites, I think.
In the other room was Mitch Cormier and The Can’t Hardly Playboys, who’d play Cajun music.
Mitch was a buzz-headed leader who’d mug funny faces for the crowd and played accordion and sang. His guitar player had a deep baritone voice and would sing Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire.
I’d belly up to the bar and have a bowl of gumbo in a bread bowl and a couple beers. Good way to spend the evening.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. NE gulf into the SE coastal waters going to be a bit more interesting late next week
Early next week on Monday/Tuesday there is a tropical wave down by the Yucatan. There is a slight chance of TS development in the gulf from that but it’s far more likely the wave will pass over Mexico and produce yet another TS or even Hurricane off the west coast of Mexico.
