I was 13, my first summer of surfing in Jersey and we got off the beach ahead of an approaching dark storm and holed up in a burger place for a sandwich and coke.
They had a jukebox we were dropping dimes into and I kept repeating Beatles Rain and Yardbirds Over Under Sideways Down, that’s how I remember the year (1966).
Lifeguard came in in his red jacket, ashen faced, shaky hands.
Seems one guy stayed on the beach too long and got struck. Had a neoprene wetsuit jacket on and the strike focused on the big zipper up the front, apparently he was scorched up the chest along that line.
The lifeguard had been one of the first responders attending to the victim. He was real shook.

Nature is a force to be reckoned with. A friend’s wife grew up in western Massachusetts. When she was a teen a storm caught her and her friends by surprise and they ran under a big tree.
As you can guess the tree was struck by lightning, which went down and into the ground, throwing them all into the air and onto the ground. They were all shook up but no serious injuries…

We were told NOT to seek shelter under large trees just for that very reason !! I guess in the western part of the state the kids didn’t get the memo.
My mother in law was struck by lightning twice.
The second time she was running into the front door to get out of the storm.
The lighting followed her into the house and struck her.
She survived. As a matter of fact, she almost lived to 102 years old.
Up until her death her brain was like that of a 25 year old.

When I moved to AZ from your neck of the woods (41 years ago), my son was 13 and on his Jr High baseball team.
One day, I was in the stands watching his game when I could see a huge thunderstorm in the distance. I watched and listened as it neared, and finally went to speak with his manager about pausing the game and removing the kids from the field. He laughed at me – so, I went to the ump with the same request. He dismissed me with a look that would curdle cream.
So, I went back to the manager and demanded my son come in from the field. The crowd of parents audibly boo’ed me and my Ex-husbnd (accent on X!) sat on his hands – mute.
As my boy was coming in from the field, the boos got really loud, and then……..the heavens opened and the stands emptied in moments. They were fine with being fried – but not rained on!
There is background to this – the year prior 3 or 4 young Little Leaguers had died on the field after a lightening strike that hit the pitcher’s mound and spread out. This was in a little town about 50 miles from our location.
(My son finally forgave me after having his own children – funny, that)
There is more to it than that and more than we understand as of yet. People can and have sensed that there is going to be a strike where they are several seconds before there was an actual strike and leader. Long enough in advance that those aware of their surroundings have had time to move away from it and saved themselves.

The interpretation that Gen 12:3 applies to modern day Israel only became popular because of the 1909 Scofield bible footnotes.

You forgot to include Galatians 3:17-18, pointing out that the promise to Abram preceded the Law by 430+ years, so it could not be invalidated by disobeying the Law. God’s unilateral covenant to Abram in Genesis 15 specifically relates to offspring “who will come from your own body.” Abram then defends the carcasses from the attacking birds, foreshadowing the birds in Matthew 13. Although Abraham had multiple offspring, Isaiah is referred to as his “only son” by God.
I suggest further review of Leviticus 26:44-45; Deuteronomy 31-32; Isaiah 49-51; Jeremiah 16; the book of Hosea, especially 5:14-15; Joel 3.
I would focus on learning the whole counsel of God, not selected verses. Nowhere in scripture is “unconditional support” mandated. It does refer to Israel as the apple of God’s eye, as His inheritance, and His chosen people. Israel Update:
Today it will be less detailed. Not a lot is new.
I would like to start with something here that is more personal. A clarification.
I would much rather see Israel doing all the work in this war with no American offensive intervention! I understand the divide that this subject is creating in MAGA and I understand that it is an unhealthy problem for MAGA.
Sometimes I run across haters in comments of various American outlets and they say:
“We are tired of fighting your wars in the Middle East”.
So I am going to put the truth here to the best of my ability. This stamens is false.
But I admit that Israel is not completely clean on the matter and I will clarify it.
The US had a war in Afghanistan which related to 9/11. Afghanistan was never in war with Israel. They are too far and not related.
The US had a war in Kuwait which was also not related to Israel. It had to do with protecting their oil against Saddam Hussein.
The US had operations in Syria against ISIS. This was not because of Israel. Israel had very few interactions in relation to ISIS. ISIS was messing with the US and the West.
Then the war in Iraq: This one Israel did have a side negative influence on the matter but not the main one. It was post 9/11. Intelligence agencies, CIA, MI6 (British), Mossad and others shared false information about Weapons of Mass Destruction. Additionally false claims of links to Al Quadra and then the Regime change “to spread Democracy.”
So Neocons pushed for the war and Israel supporters also were for it (Israel was threatened by Iraq) and most simply believed the reports and voted for it.
Also there is a whole thing about the Deep State and the agenda to do regime change and spread Globally while getting control over nations and their oil and resources. This last one is the key one. There were later similar attempts on Libya which ruined Libya and there were attempts on Syria that ruined Syria and Egypt was also almost ruined. It was later, it was the “Arab Spring” that Obama pushed and Hillary as a Sec of State also pushed. It was how they created Muslim refugees who flooded Europe and America. So Israel is not innocent but not the driver of the matter.
Then there were US soldiers involved in Somali and Yemen. Not related to Israel.
Only after 10/7 the Houthis became a problem with Israel.
So back to present time. People reactively compare things that are not identical as if it is an identity. In present time no one is talking about a ground invasion. Also not on a declaration of war by the US. Also people are suspicious that the Intel is fake and Iran was not really close to a bomb. Or not intending for a bomb. Now this one is false. While the subject of how close they were is in dispute. And maybe some exaggerate it and say “weeks”.
From what Bibi said in various interviews it was months. But don’t you even think for a moment that we would get into such a dangerous war that could potentially be fatal, for no good reason.
Iran was working for all the elements of a bomb and how close they were is not the subject matter. This reminds me of Clinton and his hesitation with North Korea, there were considerations to attack and he didn’t and now they are nuclear and can reach the US.
So how many days, weeks or months they are close to it is not the subject matter.
So my point of view is practical. If Israel can do it properly then let Israel do it but if it’s questionable then let Trump drop a couple of bombs and seal the matter.
Show the Russians and Chinese that America is boss and that’s all.
Basically what I am telling you is that I would rather not be fried by an atom bomb in any future.
-The attacks yesterday resulted in some 4-5 badly wounded and some mediocre injuries and close to a hundred lightly injured. If that hospital was not evacuated the day before we would have seen some 20 killed and many injured. Thanks God. There were hardly any injuries in the hospital. But this attack was a trigger that may cost Khemenei his life.
-Today we had some sirens and interceptions. Many drones intercepted some light injuries and damage to a train station, etc…
Right now there were two direct hits in the south. I see the Microsoft building was hit not too bad and a residential building with some 6 stores is messed up. I don’t know of casualties yet. Also a fire on the parking area of a building. So far 5 light injuries are reported. The building looks peeled not demolished so maybe it’s not as bad as it looks.
-Many missile production sites were attacked in Iran. Also main research center for nuclear.
and advanced military technology. More than 60 airplanes attacked at night using precision Intel and dropped some 120 munitions. Some of the plants for missile production that were attacked were the main center of the Iranian military industry. Plants for molding the missiles and plants for making various parts of missiles were attacked. A site that produces a key component of a nuclear bomb was attacked.
-Russia is saying that their response to a murder of Khamenei will be drastically bad.
-The Iranians are clearing the oil from the Harage Islands which is where most of their oils industry is. Trying to minimize damage if it will be attacked. Note: An expert that I listen to is saying that damaging that island will make the regime fall. It’s their key part of the economy.
I guess this is a sensitive subject and it will affect the oil supplies of China and can bring a counter attack on Saudi oil and others. So this is a card that Israel is keeping.
-Trump said that he will decide on an attack within 2 weeks. He is calling for diplomacy.
Note: I hope that this is a deception and not a hesitation.
You can’t show the world’s dictators signs of hesitation and you can’t threat and then fold. This could have bad consequences in the future with other players like China in Taiwan etc…

Fantastic update David. I continue to be in prayer. I wonder sometimes if the nuclear capability is being used as a reason for attacking, when in fact timing was the true reason. Not to say that nuclear ambitions were not real, but like you said, a true estimate of when Iran would be ready is a matter of debate.
Quite frankly, if Canada were under attack, I would have no qualms with the US sitting it out. We in Canada have done nothing to prepared for our own security. In short. We deserve it. I don’t believe the same for Israel. Comments from Steve Bannon that Israel started it, let them finish it shows how very little he knows about the Middle East.
If Iran had been given more time, their missiles would have overwhelmed Israel air defences in sheer volume. The leave Israel alone crowd almost seems excited to see Israel slowly perish while trying to ward of thousands of rockets.
Back to timing. Few people have the mental capacity to understand that windows of opportunity don’t come often. Hamas is weak. Hezbollah is weak. Syria gone. There really was no better time for Israel to do what needed to be done. People in general don’t seem to be able to understand preemptive defensive measures. What they do understand is nuclear danger. That is why we see this reason being pushed, even though estimates on when it truly was a danger vary.
I think Israel has done the right thing. All of the US should be enormously thankful. The ballistic missiles are proving to be very effective. US interests could have been threatened. It is my opinion that the missile stockpile was the true present danger. Why not kill two birds with one stone.

Goof Friday morning all.
Still without power. The official break in period for the GENERAC is over and so far so good. Three times I have shut it down for an hour or more to let the generator coil cool so the winding contracts into the resin. That’s enough.
From now until our electrical service is restored I will just shut it down once every 24 hours for long enough to check the oil level and look everything over which just takes a few minutes.
After power is restored it will be time for the initial oil change one does on small engines after the break in period. But the oil on the dipstick is still so clear on really has to look hard to read the level.
Though the generator puts out 22.5 kW at full load and it big enough to run everything in the house like normal, Sherry and I are conserving. She hasn’t done laundry since we have plenty of cloths and If she did she would dry it on the cloths line instead of using electric dryer.
We turn off all unnecessary lights. I shut down the computer when not using it.
We, however, are not compromising on our comfort. A/C for the central air is set at 71 deg, where we like it and the mini splitter for the sun room is set the same. We’re using ceiling fans where and when we want. If I’m outside in the back yard or in the sun room I can hear the unit power up when the A/C kicks on.
Since the only other things that run off natural gas in the house is are the furnaces (The one for the house and the ceiling mounted one for the garage) are not in use, it will be interesting to see what our natural gas bill this month will be.
Looking at the utility outage map, I don’t expect we’ll get back electrical service any earlier than tomorrow some time.

His work at Texas Instruments (TI) was crucial to the development of the integrated circuit, a central component in modern electronics. Kilby’s groundbreaking development of the integrated circuit, or microchip, marked a new era in electronics, paving the way for advancements in technology that we see today.
At TI, Kilby also played a role in the development of the handheld calculator and the thermal printer. These innovations, while seemingly commonplace today, marked major advancements in their respective fields at the time. The handheld calculator revolutionized how individuals performed calculations, making it quicker and more efficient. The thermal printer, meanwhile, offered a new, convenient way of creating hard copies of electronic data.
Kilby’s contributions have been widely recognized in the scientific community. In 1969, he was awarded the National Medal of Science, one of the highest honors given by the United States government for contributions to the field of science and engineering. Sure glad you have your new generator. We’ve been researching same for years – just need to “pull the trigger.”
There are multiple active fires right now in the area indicated as “critical” on your map.
Our place is in the “elevated” designation. I check every day on several apps for fires that would specifically threaten us. So far – nothing close. 🤞
They aren’t getting any cheaper! Prices in the last couple years have really gone up!
We are in the red zone here.
The wildfire season has started early this year. We have already had 4 wildfires in our area, and one here where we live in an agricultural subdivision 20 miles north east of town. It destroyed several homes.
It was caused by human stupidity. We were spared, but one of the houses that was burned down was just a half mile to the south on our road.
Fortunately, our home and property were not in the path of the fire that was driven by high winds in a north easterly direction. Had it started further to the west, or the prevalent wind been more towards the north, we would have put the sprinklers on the roof and evacuated. We always have a plan in place to grab a few cherished valuables and important records, and get away quickly if possible.
We are also very thankful that no lives were lost.
Our VFD with some assistance from BLM did a fine job of saving many homes and rapidly getting the fire under control. We are grateful for the hard work they do.
Later in the season, we will have thunder storms with multiple lightening strikes as that is the typical weather behavior in mid to late summer. This is why we call it wildfire season.
I’ve spent many nights with very little sleep, watching until nature’s fireworks show had either subsided or moved on past our area.
It is just a part of life here on the high desert.

We’ve been here for 26 years and have been blessed with never having to evacuate yet. But this one was close. I could have easily loaded our Pit, but the Calico cat was no where in site. She lives outdoors all summer, night and day. We don’t have any livestock.
Right on target, we have a rapidly growing wildfire in the Pine Nuts, the mountainous eastern boundary of the Carson Valley in NW Nevada. Wind gust exceeding 50 mph presently, and fire has grown from 100-2500 acres in about 9 hours. houses gone and evacuations are underway for hundreds of homes in the north valley.
Hi CarsonValleyColonel, I’m sorry to hear of that unfortunate destruction, yet glad you’re alright. We are in Paradise Valley up in Humboldt County. Had an estimated 2000 acre burn on Winnemuca Mountain last Sunday night, that threatened some houses and infrastructure, but the fire crews worked it all night and into the Monday. NV Energy had to replace the electrical wires all the way up.

They were sailing out of time,

For careers in maritime.
We contended with despots
Among engineers and mate,
Whose mothers knew their fathers

Revere those rusting buckets

Shipping coal to Newcastle
To keep the home fires burning.

Good evening Soaz. Kitten update:
They are eating kitten food and their mom’s if she lets them. They still like to nurse and she still lets them. They, most of the time, are using the litter box, although I do have puppy pads on the floor and sometimes I see spots of piddle. They are 5 weeks old today. They no longer stay in the basket. Last night they started playing with two balls with bells in them and a stuffed mouse with a feather for a tail, and a rolly polly thing with a bell inside and feathers on each end. They also play with each other and anything they find to amuse themselves, including my toes when I go in there. Every time I go in there I have to count heads as they have figured out how to get behind the washer and dryer. I’ve done my best to block the holes, but they persevere and get behind them. They are not the least bit afraid of my dog Beau and will climb the gate and go nose to nose with him, especially Percy! She has no fear of anything. Was the first to climb the gate, first to use the litter box, first to eat mom’s food and first to get out into the kitchen, (my son happened to be home and got her before she went too far. To say I’m exhausted is an understatement. It’s like having a bunch of toddlers! That is the latest. As I told Betsy yesterday, I’ve not named any of the others as I am afraid I would want to keep them, but have now considered, as of this morning, I may keep one of the boys, as he comes to me every single time I go in there. We will see how it goes. Will keep you all updated.

COMMENTARY FOR PSALMS 27
“The psalmist’s faith. (1-6) His desire toward God, and expectation from him. (7-14)
7-14 Wherever the believer is, he can find a way to the throne of grace by prayer. God calls us by his Spirit, by his word, by his worship, and by special providences, merciful and afflicting. When we are foolishly making court to lying vanities, God is, in love to us, calling us to seek our own mercies in him. The call is general, “Seek ye my face;” but we must apply it to ourselves, “I will seek it.” The word does us no good, when we do not ourselves accept the exhortation: a gracious heart readily answers to the call of a gracious God, being made willing in the day of his power. The psalmist requests the favour of the Lord; the continuance of his presence with him; the benefit of Divine guidance, and the benefit of Divine protection. God’s time to help those that trust in him, is, when all other helpers fail. He is a surer and better Friend than earthly parents are, or can be. What was the belief which supported the psalmist? That he should see the goodness of the Lord. There is nothing like the believing hope of eternal life, the foresights of that glory, and foretastes of those pleasures, to keep us from fainting under all calamities. In the meantime he should be strengthened to bear up under his burdens. Let us look unto the suffering Saviour, and pray in faith, not to be delivered into the hands of our enemies. WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

We needed that water for the local fire yesterday afternoon.
Winter finally ended and we had some lovely days of Spring. That morphed into ‘Road Construction / Work.’ Now it’s FIRE season. long, dry hot days prep dry grass, weeds and other tinder. Storms bring rain, but also lightening. So here we are. Smoke fills the Snake River corridor and temperature inversions hold the bad air near the ground.
Sigh – never an ideal situation …

Heavenly Father, as the day is drawing to its close I ask that Your continued love and presence be with me and with all that are Your children in Christ. Guard us through the long hours of darkness this night I pray, and keep us safe from all harm and dangers that may try to cross our threshold.
Give us, I pray, an untroubled night of rest and quietness of heart. May we be refreshed and renewed in body, soul and spirit as we rest our weary hearts in You through the hours of the night.
Lord, I pray that by Your great grace and mercy, You would grant us untroubled sleep so that we may rise up in the morning strong to do Your bidding. May we all rejoice for the dawn of a new day, knowing that Your mercies are new every morning. In Jesus’ name,

Loving Lord, as the day is coming to an end, I want to thank You for being with me in all that has taken place today. I also want to lay the whole day before You, asking that you would show me if there is anything that I have done to hurt or harm another person unknowingly, or if I have done anything that is displeasing in Your sight, or quenched the work of the Spirit in me, so that I may turn away from such things in the days that lie ahead.
Lord, I desire to do Your will in all things. I pray that You would cleanse me of any wrong thoughts or attitudes that may have surfaced in my heart today. Wash me in Your cleansing flood, I pray.
Thank You, that You are a God who forgives our transgressions when we are willing to confess them to You, knowing that such cleansing before You immediately draws us back into sweet fellowship with Yourself.
