Finally asked the Border Patrol. And they came. First maybe two dozen, then hundreds more as things escalated. Federal prison guards two. And a few marshals.
BP had clubs and tear gas. At least some in the crowd were shooting at them. But they held until troops arrived.
In the end 30,000 troops occupied Oxford.

This forced the government to federalize a number of national guard and other law enforcement.
