Edith is playing a most impressive sounding guitar. This reminds me of a story . . . In the late 70’s early 80’s I attended a Pepe Romero master class. He was playing a new Miguel Rodriguez concert guitar that we wanted me to play. Teasingly, he asked me to go on stage and tune it for him . . . Obligingly, I did just that. The first notes I played on it, I immediately knew I was playing something very special. Turned out I was playing what became a very famous guitar. It was so remarkably good, Pepe’ named it “La Wonderful”. It became one of the most famous guitars in the world. You can hear it on many of his recording from that period. I can report that playing that wonderful guitar was like going to church. 🙂

He was the first I became familiar with during my freshman year when my roomie produced a recording of the Rodrigo concerto so loved by millions. This young woman’s guitar is almost as big as she is. Mornin’ Bet. I always like to give a vote of appreciation for the consummate good taste shown by the Siccas guys in their careful choices of performers. Definitely, Edith is an exceptionally good player—who also shows excellent in her choice of guitars.
If you aren’t a guitarist, choosing the “right” guitar can seem a rather opaque endeavor. For us ‘pickers, however, choosing a new guitar is a distinctly esthetic experience. If you could talk to Edith I’m sure she could regale us with some highly intriguing adventures as she looked for “just the right instrument” . . . which happily turned out to be this one.
When I first got into classical guitar I realized that the wonderful players were also playing some wonderful guitars. Realizing that of course led me to “the search”. If you happen to find yourself in Madrid, by all means make a point to visit the guitar shops just off the Plaza Mayor.
Saturdays are most interesting because visiting musicians—truly great, often well known players from around the world like to show up on Saturdays—to play the wonderful guitars. That’s where I discovered that Segovia (along with a number of famous players) preferred the guitars made in the famous Jose Ramirez shop. Yep it was. along with many other shops, within an easy walking distance from the Plaza.
So I take it you’ve been?? I never made it that far, though Chris did many times as he was a seasoned driver of coaches throughout Europe carrying all sorts of groups.
Imagine wandering into their shoppe and finding yourself face to face with Segovia, any of the Romeros, Bream, pick a name…you know more than I do.
As for being choosie about an instrument, they are finishing up the Van Cliburn competition in Fort Worth today or tomorrow. I’ve seen a wonderful documentary on it; and the aspirants for Gold Medalist in one of the International Big Four competitions (Tchaikovsky, Warsaw/Chopin, Leeds being the others last time I looked) have a choice of pianos. Much easier to try out guitars to find just the right one.
That Spain, when one could walk around safely and breath in another world as my oldest did on an extended study and backpack journey long ago (as with the rest of Europe) is no more I fear. Change, always promoted as something for the better, is not in many cases…I hope that’s not the case for the Siccas and their lovely idyllic world 💕☕

British mathematician and computer scientist pioneer (Turing Machine), commits suicide at 41 (b. 1912)
Biography: Turing was a highly influential computer scientist and cryptanalyst who developed the Turing machine, one of the most important theoretical models of a computer. In this regard he is considered to be the father of artificial intelligence and of computer science.
During World War II Turing worked at the UK’s code-breaking headquarters at Bletchley Park. Here he played a pivotal role in breaking coded German messages through the Enigma machine, many of which helped the Allies win several crucial battles. One estimate puts the number of lives saved by Turing’s work at as many as 14 million.
Turing was never fully recognized during his lifetime due to his homosexuality, which was then a crime in the UK. He was prosecuted in 1952 and underwent forced castration as a punishment. He died in 1954 of cyanide poisoning, at the time ruled as suicide but possibly accidental. In 2009 the British government formally apologized to Turing, and Queen Elizabeth II granted him a pardon in 2013. COMMENTARY FOR PHILIPPIANS 4
“The apostle exhorts the Philippians to stand fast in the Lord. (1) Gives directions to some, and to all in general. (2-9) Expresses contentment in every condition of life. (10-19) He concludes with prayer to God the Father, and his usual blessing. (20-23)1 The believing hope and prospect of eternal life, should make us steady and constant in our Christian course. There is difference of gifts and graces, yet, being renewed by the same Spirit, we are brethren. To stand fast in the Lord, is to stand fast in his strength, and by his grace.”
(2-9) “Let believers be of one mind, and ready to help each other. As the apostle had found the benefit of their assistance, he knew how comfortable it would be to his fellow-labourers to have the help of others. Let us seek to give assurance that our names are written in the book of life. Joy in God is of great consequence in the Christian life; and Christians need to be again and again called to it. PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Tying up loose ends of projects – curb the backup
Rewrites and mistakes I must make right
Why am I flustered and oh so uptight?
I had to stop the panic – get my head on straight
To be done and completed – I just could not wait
In all the anxiety – I forgot one important thing
I had not remembered – I was under Your wing.
All the sources I amassed for my work
The one high above all I must not shirk
It was You, Sweet Jesus – I left behind
Have I lost my edge – misplaced my mind?
I stopped what I was doing to take quick stock
My website – went awry – it really did not rock
Of course without help – what could I expect
I must go to my rock and get it all checked.
I stopped again – remembered her advice
I must pray – and ask – if I have to – twice
I must trust in God – with all of my heart
Lean not on myself – right from the start.
Help me, Lord – I prayed heartedly out loud
Help me to focus – mind out of the cloud
Help me organize – this mess on my desk
Make it flow smoothly – be not so grotesque!
