This is a serious matter, not a parlor game. Nor is this a typical political battle. What happened over the last five years was for the ages. The world economy was smashed by nearly all states due to a lab leak for a product partially funded by the US government. The unannounced fallback plan, pushed in the name of science, was to universally distribute a new shot with a new gene-altering technology.
The shot did not work. It was not effective. It was not safe. Nor were they properly vetted because they were imposed by military edict under the cover of emergency. Other therapeutics were disparaged and banned. The critics in all areas were censored and shut down. People who refused the injection were fired. Public health collapsed in the name of preserving it.
Those harms have seen no justice.
Meanwhile, to finance this calamity, debt-financed spending ballooned by $8-10 trillion, leaving the federal government’s budget $2 trillion higher than it otherwise would have been. The shots are still on the market despite undeniable and widely known harms.
None of this is a secret, as it might have been in former times. Because of information technologies, people are well aware of every detail. The so-called “populist movement” has become a vast community of in-depth expertise, fully capable of running circles around legacy people and institutions. [NOT vast enough as shown by Trump winning by only 1.5% of the popular vote against the well documented as Marxist/Maoist adjacent, child castrating commie duo and using “cheating” as the excuse only shows you don’t know how to do math – W]
The new leaders – elected to change course on all the above and more, including the accompanying crime and migration chaos – began with tremendous bravado and sweeping edicts that seemed promising. Four months later, they are asking for patience while dealing with legacy barriers on all sides from media harassment to court blockages.
The trouble is that public trust is completely gone. The whole country, traumatized by years of lies, has become Missouri: show me.
First, no one believes that the “one big beautiful bill” is just a first step on the way to future draconian cuts. We’ve seen this too many times, which is why Elon Musk finally broke his silence and denounced the entire “massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill” as “a disgusting abomination.” That has set off a power struggle for the ages.
Second, in areas of government transparency, there have been some steps but not nearly enough to fulfill the promises. There are still no new Epstein files. The JFK files are a mess and incomplete. We know no more than already public information about the two shooters who tried to kill Trump. There are still many lingering questions about 9-11, the Covid disaster, and so much else. This is not the opening for which the people had hoped.

That was a great explanation about soft-peddling going on. Even though he concentrated on the medical sphere of the established government vs the MAGA warriors, the other spheres he mentioned need similar points of transparency since they, too, suffer from damaged/no-longer-existent public trust.
Whatever cocktail of mind altering drugs Elon was on yesterday appear to have worn off late last evening. Scary to think this unstable drug addict may have spent time alone with our President at over the past several months. It’s good that he is gone and most likely not coming anywhere near the Predsident again.

In many cases yes and the meds to help with this must be used properly or they can mess it all up too. Elon seems to have had an episode where something went wrong and he lost his emotional balance. What went wrong is anyone’s guess but with his medical history and the stress he’s been enduring lately, it’s likely something in there. Having worked with autistic children for many years, there are warning signs that something is going on and needs to be managed or the meltdown ensues. Sometimes it comes out of nowhere. If Elon is using other drugs that certainly could upset the whole issue too. Whatever the reason, I would give it some time to calm down and he gets himself back on track emotionally.
I would guess Pres. Trump knows all that and knows Elon and has been very understanding about Elon’s issues while allowing him a place within the administration to work on DOGE, which would be super helpful in finding fraud and waste in govt. The team Elon assembled seemed to be stellar and very smart. However that all only goes so far, there was a time limit of 130 days for Elon’s special assignment and Pres. Trump knows what’s needed next. Elon needs to step back and Pres. Trump moves forward with the info Elon and DOGE presented to him. How it’s used and when is up to the President.
His 13 children by umpteen young baby mamas while not settling down in a married relationship is also symptomatic of a psychological disturbance.

There will be no fight, not even a skirmish with Desantis. He is DONE! If he wasn’t not cooked goose before, his plea to Elon yesterday did it. Massie should be too, but his facade has not totally crumbled.
No one is Trump. That is a truth well known. That’s why it’s so important to get some of his agenda put into permanent law. The conservative republicans have some decent candidates to choose from and the Dems have crazy people to choose from along with using the complicit media to lie to the voters about them like they did with Kamala and Joe. Change the media and the Dems are floating in slime with no direction.
Bigger concern is 2026 right now. If the Dems control either branch the giant road blocks will be put in place again to stop anything PTrump wants done. Impeachment will rage and the country will stagnate for two years and no Trump permanent laws will be passed.

I don’t know anything about anything in regards to inside politics, I’m in semi-rural Oregon and far away from DC. I get my information filtered via the news, blogs and reading what other people are posting, in other words, I’m only superficially informed.
In regards to Musk, he put his name, companies and wealth on the line, took a hit for it and then was stabbed in the back by the republicans. His DOGE efforts have exposed massive amounts of waste, fraud, abuse, illegal activities, corruption and filthy politics. With this exposure, he expected something in return, some legislation, some arrest, something. All he got was a golden key and a boot out the door.
President Trump brought him on, gave him the DOGE Silo but did not follow thru, did not order his DOJ to get their butts out of the mud and get to work to make Musk’s and DOGE’s work have an impact. He did not order a special prosecutor to get after the wrong doers. I don’t blame Musk one bit for getting pissed off and lashing out. In his mind I can see the question “Why the fruck did I put myself and my companies thru all this, what a fool I’ve been”.
Now that he’s had a chance to cool off a little and think about things, he’s starting to see that he’s been a fool twice over. He’s burning the bridges to one of the sources of his wealth, the government teat and jeopardizing the access needed for future plans.
Trump doesn’t owe Elon a thing. Elon massively underdelivered on DOGE, only over a billion exposed, nowhere near the two trillion he promised. He jumped aboard the winning ship like any true opportunist and when he found out he wasn’t actually co-President he threw a fit.

Think of him as more of a “special press secretary” in that role because that’s what DOGE is except instead of sitting in on many of POTUS’s meetings, he was reviewing information from other offices reporting to Trump and making reports and recommendations. And there was a LOT of reporting.

I have thought of Elon Musk in this same way, in the manner in which he shared the Starlink technology and made it widely available to people who were in a desperate need to communicate, such as in the aftermath of the hellfires in Maui; there was a critical need and having watched people such as Eric West in Maui helping to get more Starlinks set up, it was awesome how that helped people who were not getting much help at all otherwise.

This is how bad California has gotten. Potentially harmful measures have to be written into a bill just to prevent California making a power grab.
This prevents California from regulating the entire AI market. We’ve been over this.
The problem is the language is too broad. While the matter of California’s regulations somehow affecting the entire nation has been looked at, it has ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED. If they did it again, it would be addressed again.
Better language in the bill would be to add language that the states exceeding federal policy in terms of regulations would be nullified by presidential order and calling that DONE.
All said, not ALL of California’s over-reaching policies are bad. The ones about the right to be forgotten on the internet is particularly good along with other things which protect privacy from data brokers and the like. I’d go further by adding language which PROHIBITS the government (state or local) from BUYING PRIVATE/BUSINESS data from companies to spy on us as it violates the 4th amendment CLEARLY. Let the government get a warrant before buying any such data and under the rules of the warrant, they cannot be for broad collection but rather targeted and specific and ONLY that data should be acquired under warrant. No more “incidental collection” garbage.

I might not agree with all of this, but this part especially stands out: “Trump has no problem calling someone the Antichrist one day and working with him the next.”
These guys don’t understand each other.
Elon Musk is too guileless. He says exactly what he thinks is true with little regard for how others will react. He alienates allies by airing disputes in public instead of settling them behind closed doors.
Because he is a sperg engineer who leads companies of sperg engineers, and to do this, you must be 100% truthful and transparent.
Donald Trump is too guileful. He says exactly what will advance his plans with little regard for telling people what he actually thinks. He alienates allies by expecting their unconditional support without sharing any aspect of his strategic plans with them.
Because he is a New York real estate developer, who thrives on winning negotiations and gaining advantage from unshared knowledge, and to do this, you must be 100% calculating and opaque.
Here’s what happened.
Musk worked super hard, and took great personal risks, to get a head start on balancing the federal budget. He correctly believes that federal spending is an existential risk to the nation.
Trump regards those savings as a political asset.
And, since he lacks leverage in congress, he took them and traded them for other things he wanted, apparently dealing with border control, the courts, etc… problems which he correctly believes are an existential threat to the nation.
He may have concrete plans for balancing the federal budget in the future, but, frustratingly, he won’t tell his own team what they are.
Trump could have squared this in advance with Musk, in private, but he appears to either have assumed his loyalty (treating an ally like a subordinate), or been unable to persuade him.
Likewise, Musk could have raised his complaints in private, but either he was too upset to try, or was not able to reach an agreement when he did.
Trump doesn’t understand how to deal with spergs. You have to tell them the truth, not expect them to read subtext. They refuse to read subtext. They want to be spoken to honestly.
Musk doesn’t understand how to deal with Machiavellians. They think of language as a power tool, and think of those who insist on truth as naive.
Both men are used to being in charge, and are used to dealing with subordinates, who must cater to their preferred style of communicating.
They are both therefore uniquely unsuited to having both the patience and the capability to speak the other’s language.
The truth is that both the federal budget and the federal bureaucracy are existential threats to America. Maximum priority.
Trump’s concerns about the “art of the possible” are probably valid, but Musk’s sense of urgency should not be dismissed lightly.
It is churlish to leverage the superior strengths and talents of people on the autism spectrum while making zero allowances for their unique needs.
That said, spergs can be frustratingly dogmatic, even when they aren’t the richest and most successful man in the world.
A few other things to notice:
The democrats have said nothing. That’s because there are no democrats. They have no independent intellectuals, only paid schills.
A response will not be forthcoming until the wholly organic grassroots PR committees have met, and the wholly grassroots talking heads have been cut a wholly organic grassroots check.
There’s also a strong case to be made for Team Nothing Ever Happens. Remember that Musk will sometimes shut up when he calms down, and Trump has no problem calling someone the Antichrist one day and working with him the next.

This is flatly incorrect. He has told everybody exactly what his plans are. They are simply so far out of the mainstream economic theories that no one can hear them.
Trump has made very clear he intends to use our dominant economic power to leverage other nations and multinational corporations to rebuild our economy as the dominant manufacturing powerhouse of the world. In this way he intends to grow our economy while refocusing our spending on things that matter. He believes we can grow our revenues faster than debt with relatively minor pain.
Mainstream economic theory has told us for decades this is impossible. However, mainstream economic theory has been an abysmal failure. Much like climate science models. When your theories are proven false it’s time to toss them and take a fresh approach. But “experts” are often incapable of thinking outside their pet paradigms. And Washington is the most intellectually sclerotic place on the planet.
Agree 💯%. “Mainstream economic theory” = printing money endlessly to pay unsustainable debt with no grounding whatsoever in GDP. PDJT theory = GDP is power and national security.
To claim that President Trump is a guileful “Machiavellian” is follow the propagandists’ narrative.
While one can claim there is a communication barrier it is ridiculous to argue that President Trump deliberately mislead/lied to Elon.

Betsy, thank you for posting this poem. When I was in Normandy years ago, I was looking for my Mom’s 21 yr old cousin’s grave. The Marine was very helpful and looked him up for me and he is buried in Brussels not Normandy. He gave me a file with a photo of his grave and information about him and about the cemetery he is buried at. I believe that He died in the Battle of the Bulge from what mom said.

One Quarter Does Not A Trend Make, But….

Labor productivity and costs are going the wrong way in services.
“Unit labor costs in the nonfarm business sector increased 6.6 percent in the first quarter of 2025, reflecting a 5.0-percent increase in hourly compensation and a 1.5-percent decrease in productivity. Unit labor costs increased 1.9 percent over the last four quarters. (See chart 2 and tables A1 and 2.)”
Plenty of people will say “but its tariff fears!” but the data says otherwise because manufacturing productivity, which is what tariffs are leveled on (goods) improved:
“Manufacturing sector labor productivity increased 4.4 percent in the first quarter of 2025, as output increased 4.8 percent and hours worked increased 0.4 percent.”
So much for that argument.
So why the change?
I’d argue two points:
AI is a bust — its really expensive and it doesn’t produce. But while that’s likely a part of it, the larger issue is….The increasing debt burden and thus interest expensive is hitting all firms, and those in the services sector are getting it the worst. This means their unit labor costs are going up while morale due to what workers can buy with their wages being harmed goes down, and thus so does their output.
One quarter is not proof, but it is a warning — and a very strong one that those in Congress who think we can continue to blow money we don’t have and inflate the credit supply without limit, and not have it fold back on us, are wrong and our economy will wind up dead from it, starting with the most-expensive parts first (medical and education) if they don’t entirely reverse, not just tinker with it, right now.

The 50 “beneficial items” in Big Beautiful Bill listed in numerous places look great but no matter how much one wants to trust the President what else is hidden in the Bill, about to be signed into LAW??
The “Good”, the “Bad” and the “Ugly” need to be stated up front and clearly, so President Trump’s supporters know what is coming. Hopium and trust the plan no longer works. I can live with some sort of “spiral improvement process to the FEDERAL spending process” as long as I know the WHOLE Story.
A few items not mentioned …. forget the dollars of the DOGE identified reductions and waste:
The discussion of the differences and limits between “discretionary” and “required” spending is total BS as long as Congress leaves open ended “Reprogramming Authority” in their spending Bills and the President signs this AUTHORITY into LAW … which allows recipients of the Federal Spending Authority in the BILL (Law) to DIVERT Funds as the recipient sees fit.
What about the status of ALL the dead budget lines found by DOGE. Are those still alive …. and …. were they funded and are they still available to receive reprogrammed Money??
These last two nearly make any other reform useless if not fixed.
By the way, open ended Reprogramming Authority allows money to be DIVERTED away from even some of the “50 Beneficial Items” depending upon the political motives of the recipient.
As a retiree: is the Federal Government (Executive and Congress) still allowed to BORROW massive amounts of money from the Social Security and Medicare funds??
[Since the Social Security and MEDICARE BENEFIT funds have to be “handled separately”, I await the discussion to stop the modification of these funds to be used as welfare ENTITLEMENT programs.]

I’m talking about Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” which, as is the pattern in DC over the last two decades plus, always has meant the exact opposite of whatever the bill is named.
Reality comment to that by Denninger:
The basic problem has been observed over time – as people come to realize they can vote for policies that pay them, and they are either not informed of the fact that there is no such thing in reality because exponents say eventually the interest expense goes vertical if you do that beyond taxation, and if you tax people at a high enough rate to avoid that they stop earning at the threshold because there’s no point if you can’t keep any of it, then they will vote for exactly that.
At 50% + 1 vote you are screwed because the lack of comprehension that there is in fact no free lunch AND the fact that politicians will NOT vote themselves out of office means that once you get there the path forward is going to be EXTREMELY ugly.
Worse, the larger the inertial effect that nation has (and the US arguably has more of it than any other nation in history, except for perhaps during the Roman Empire) the longer it goes on and thus the more-serious the problem becomes before it blows up in your face. But it WILL blow up in your face.

I have mentioned before, I have lost a woman from my neighborhood, not a close friend, but a very good and decent person.
The kind of person who would be first in line for a shot because she was told she was protecting other people and being a good citizen.
I didn’t see her every day, but last month or so I started to notice that it had been quite a while since I’d run into her.
I found out that she died at the end of 2024. She’d been perfectly health when I last ran into her.
I had the same thing happen with another vaxxed person, not a friend, he was out and about and active in 2023, dead of cancer at the end of 2024.

I don’t think it was anything like that actually. I think Sundance’s suspicions about Musk were right all along and I (and probably lots of others) just couldn’t see it. I think it’s too much to say “I blame Sundance for not being more clear.” I sometimes think he is intentionally unclear so that only certain people will know precisely what he is talking about. But it’s annoying to plebes like me just the same.
After looking at the totality of things, and considering things I never considered before as it related to Musk big tech alliance AND BACKING [who helped him buy Twitter?], I feel like Elon Musk amounts to being the biggest mole in US political history.
Musk’s criticisms are not well founded. That’s a pretty good starting place. Musk tends to come up with, on his own, pretty solid arguments and statements on things, but once in a while, he comes up with some FREAKY hard line positions — the first of which were the H1-B thing being his hill to die on. A hill to DIE on — not a problem to solve over time, pushing education and training initiatives over colleges and universities — things that make sense — a hill to DIE on because it suggests there’s no solution to the problem which is utter BullCrap. And this other thing where he commits the classic blunder of “the good being the enemy of the great” kinda thing. Unrealistic expectations. That doesn’t actually sound like Musk. These aren’t his ideas. These are things he has been told to say. Musk has owners/controllers/influencers but he’s not operating from a frame of his own ideas.
But here’s another thought — and a long shot to be sure, but in order to keep my thoughts on this balanced, I’m also considering this is some sort of op.
I’m also bringing Patel and Bongino into this because the Epstein topic was raised as an attack on Trump.
What if convincing evidence was produced (created) which destroyed their faith in Trump and the administration entirely? That would REALLY explain the looks on their faces. What if they had some information (real or not, doesn’t matter) that Trump ordered the killing of Epstein as part of a deal? There may have been a far greater good being served there. There’s way too much we can’t know.
And if the same parties which turned Patel and Bongino in public favor of the suicide theory also informed Musk? That might explain the attack on Trump by Musk on the topic.
ALL speculation trying to make sense of a lot of things… very very strange things. In isolation, the matter of Musk was WELL PREDICTED by Sundance and so by itself, as a stand-alone event, I feel the weight of information favors Sundance’s predictions and analysis of the circumstances.
Musk means a smelly scent gland on the rear end of a small crawling rodent and the aroma flowing out of it, and Trump means Victory!
