There was some other substance that worked as well as, but for the life of me I can’t remember what.
I remember at age five my grandmother using tweezers to pull out (in pieces) what she said was a tick that had babies on the back of my neck. The babies were just as hard to get out as the adult. It felt like an eternity.

I don’t like this program either but am also highly frustrated at how few teenagers/young people are willing to do summer/part-time jobs anymore, although some of it is on the employers as well. They want cheap labor, with no benefits, as a way to keep costs down and increase profits, and sadly, too many Americans simply want the lowest price, but don’t realize that they are also subsidizing the benefits for the workers, so they are paying far more than they think in the end!
Check your laws. The local grocery stores are not allowed to hire kids to sack groceries anymore.
Kids are being trained to do nothing by the government.

Here in N. Texas, I see teenagers sacking groceries at the local Brookshire’s, a grocery store headquartered in Tyler. They’ve been hiring teens as long as I have been living here (25 years).
Back in the day, in one of the discussions in my HLS class, I mentioned an observation of mine, related to my current region…those from India and from the Middle East…did not seem to engage in jobs where it involved either strength or “getting their hands dirty”. Several of my military classmates were surprised that I noticed that. That was 20+ years ago…have things changed?

Indians and Middle Easterners who are here in the USA are (generally speaking) the top 1% of their social and economic classes in their home countries. They are the elite, educated classes.
In their countries, there are plenty of people who work with their hands and get dirty.
I get what you are saying and I agree.
One point though about being frustrated about the teens not working:
It’s literally not safe in many, many places for teens to be out there working now..
The crime is off the charts and teens are big kids reallly, naive and innocent.. the girls can be tiny.
MANY good parents simply don’t want them out there, the risk is not worth it.
I get what you are saying- but this is the reality as far as teens not working in many cases are concerned- I’ve got teens and hear this said among parents constantly.
I do understand – I have great-nieces/nephews who are teens and the world in which they live is a VERY different one than when I was their age (a million years ago) and got my first job at 14 as a hostess in a local family restaurant.
My concern though is that so many kids these are playing “select” sports and their parents are spending THOUSANDS of dollars, and driving all over the state EVERY weekend, all in the hopes of snagging some elusive college scholarship for their rather mediocre child…that is not reality and it does not prepare their children for life in the real world, IMHO! Or else kids are just sitting at home, in their rooms, every night, playing video games because their parents are afraid to let them leave the house alone. (My SIL, who is 75 years old, gets up at 6 AM to drive her grandchildren to school, because they don’t “like” to ride the bus. They live in a very safe suburban neighborhood but she is “worried” about them and thinks they won’t get up and go to school unless she is there to supervise them.)
My kids got jobs at a local grocery store – they worked 10-12 hours per week, and never after 9PM. It taught them how to do a job, how to respect bosses (even those they didn’t always like) and they learned to manage their own money, rather than always asking us for it. They both worked during college and were able to graduate basically debt free and are now responsible adults who manage their money relatively well, if I do say so myself!
Overprotection of youngsters is a big problem these days. Little wonder so many of the youth are unprepared to face the challenges of the real world.
Maybe, just maybe she read SD’s analysis. Or maybe she’s not blind & understands the connection between Thiel, Vance, Musk & the federal gubmint.
She didn’t need any inside information to know what we knew more than weeks ahead of the curve, she just needed to be aware of open source info.

Hmmm Sundance wrote a few great “pancakes” articles and I too have been able to increase my stock portfolio by buying Palantir. I have numerous friends that don’t read here and they too invested in Palantir. Anyone that has been paying attention to the tech industry would have been wise to invest and that was before they got the government contracts.

I was kind of puzzled after that new minerals deal was signed, because right away the State Department was warning that if both sides didn’t make an effort to get together, the US wasn’t going to mediate anymore, and why say that when one side that was being rebuked for holding things up had just done what our people wanted?
Then I started hearing that the deal kept us involved, and some were saying that Zelensky actually got a better deal, but we still don’t know full details.

The idea was to interest the famously transactional US President Donald Trump in Ukraine’s defense, and it seemed a clever ruse at the time. In the event, it almost blew up a military relationship critical to Ukraine’s survival, but the deal as now at least partially agreed looks like a good save.
We do not yet have the published text, and — according to a Ukrainian news agency that saw the documents — an important further “technical” protocol remains to be signed. Still, if the agreement is as described by Ukrainskaya Pravda and Ukrainian Minister of Economic Development and Trade Yulia Svyrydenko, who drove the final negotiation, it at least averted disaster and could serve a little of the original purpose. The neocolonial terms of exploitation in previously leaked US drafts that Trump clearly expected Zelenskiy to sign on the spot — because he exploded in anger when that did not happen — are no longer there.

Yes, the article is slanted, and the deal may not go through, but I’m left wondering a couple of things:
Is this just a way to look as if the US was being nicer to Zelensky, so when we walk away and say “we tried” after Russia is uncooperative, we won’t look like we favored one side over another?
Do we expect the deal to go through, and this is Rubio getting what he wanted all along, without appearing to do so?
This ain’t no “deal,” and Zelensky is a “dead man standing.” He can only continue to be pushed-up so long before his own people, perhaps, finally do to him what the Italians finally did to Mussolini. 💀

The newer ones tend to have subtitles that are either hard to see (small white letters, for example) or are flashed on the screen for such a short time that I can’t read and follow the action.
I’s not just because I’m old, either.
I checked how long the subtitles were up on shows like Beck, from the late 90s, and newer ones. Also larger white letter with dark edges show up on most backgrounds.
It seems that around the time of Obama’s second term, everything that wasn’t wrecked already started going to hell.
Streaming services are now adding English dubbed over the original track…. and they are getting very good at it.

Films are by their very nature universal and global in that their content can be about any subject, in any place, at any time. For the sake of authenticity many movies are filmed on location, the subject matter of the film determines where that particular location will be.
Should film makers be punished for that authenticity? I don’t know.
I have seen movies “set” in NYC, Chicage, etc. that were actually filmed in Toronto.

You may not have noticed but in the past 25 years most movies and tv are filmed on location outside of the US.
This is bad for the USA for obvious reasons. States and cities try to attract film makers because the filming of a movie brings revenue and jobs to their locals much like sports events Super Bowls, spring training, fashion week , etc etc.
It also showcases the locale to potential tourists, businesses and so on.
I have made a practice of watching the credits to see where movies/tv were filmed and what they were actually depicting versus what they claimed.
Did you know that most movies that claim to be about NYC are in reality filmed in Toronto? They might have a bird’s eye view of the real NYC skyline but the rest is Toronto.
For example: The comedy TV series Psych is supposed to be Santa Barbara. They have a few clips of the police station that is a genuine building in Santa Barbara but the rest is British Columbia. The old Jesse Stone movies were supposed to take place in a small town outside Boston, it was really Nova Scotia ( the frequent red houses were a give away).
I must admit to prove my point that on occasion I watch Hallmark movies. These supposedly take place all over the US but it’s always Canada. British Colombia for Cape Cod, Toronto for east coast cities and so.
What the producers are doing is taking money away from the USA for their personal profit, and then selling it back to us as our “pretend” country thinking we’ll never know the difference. The local USA economies suffer.
Funny how they don’t do this to London or Paris or Rome.

Hi 4gypsybreeze! I have been watching the two Alexes on The Duran for a while. I have noticed that our walking Alex is using Politico, The Washington Post, New York Times and the Wall Street Journal for his information sources a lot.
Many here at CTH suspect that these sources are definitely anti-Trump and IC favored. Much of their reporting is suspect for truth. It is interesting how the Duran has been upping their Trump bashing since the mineral deal has been signed. Always an interesting watch.

puerto rico is a really strong example of this issue. everything is a toll booth, a monopoly, an implausibly intractable permission structure. watching people enter year 3 of a 6 month home build is pretty normal. hiring people and running a restaurant is devastatingly difficult as labor is scarce, expensive, and once they have worked for you for 6 months, entails levels of difficulty to separate from sufficient even to make a frenchman exclaim “mon dieu!”
the “isla del encanto” has been in a 20+ year decline and the demographics promise much worse to come. there has been a massive brain and motivation drain as people move to miami and new york pulling off the top 1-2% each year and local hospitals provide convenient job fairs for US groups to find bilingual nurses and doctors and hire them away. the tax deal that kept the pharma and med device manufacturers here ended in the 1996-2005 timeframe and that was that. the knowhow that and incentive to keep the place running started to fade.
roads are a wreck, the power grid is failing, we have huge swathes of incredible farmland that grows nothing but weeds and goats because no one is willing to work it. restaurants in san juan are priced like miami and so too are the nicer apartments and homes. construction is very difficult from a regulatory and from a labor standpoint and you’d rather set your car on fire than lose your housekeeper as it’s incredibly difficult to find, much less hire reliable people who want the work.
in the second world, defrauding the system is the cottage industry.

Calls for impeaching judges began in March. Speaker Johnson shut that down and proposed limiting courts’ jurisdiction and funding cuts. He then called a two week recess. Nothing has happened since then and he has not been seen or heard from.
Most of March, all of April, and now May…. More than two months wasted.
Why didn’t Trump request the Senate to also take the two week recess so that he could make recess appointments for all the stalled nominees?
