Morning, dear Patience. Since I don’t cook, having a selection of good places to eat is an essential part of one’s life. My food tastes are pretty mundane, actually. I like Texas style roadhouse food (yesterday in fact) or delicious tacos from small family owned taquerias. Over the past year I’ve lost right at 50lbs and am (almost) down 3 waist sizes. Turns out my lunch staple—a chicken fajita taco and a side of charro beans—makes for an excellent diet food (and who’da thunk it !!). Haven’t seen 180lbs since the year 2000.

Also nim, I planted some black diamond watermelon seedlings yesterday and some cantaloupe seeds, (they are a Burpee cantaloupe called “Ambrosia”). They are named appropriately. Best tasting I’ve ever grown.

Desperately trying to keep my gardens smaller and more manageable, but those melons do sound good! I am planting nasturtiums today – they are almost indestructible and taste great in salad.
I planted nasturtium seeds in with my pickling cucumbers and my grey stripe squash which is similar to zucchini, and my pitty pat squash, along with radish seeds near the squash and cukes. Nasturtiums protect against aphids and whiteflies and attracts the pollinators. Squash bugs do not like radishes. I also plant marigolds and zinnias with the vegetables.
Do you have a fence you can plant some melons by? Let them grow up the fence, they don’t take as much space. I make little hammocks for the melons with my old panty hose so they grow and aren’t on the ground, but any stretchy fabric/rags will work.
At the big ranch, I grew them up cattle panels made sturdy with t-posts. Now they are going to grow up my chain link fence as well as some panels. If some of the melons are still on the ground, I just put inverted foil pie pans under them to keep them off the ground. They ripen with the sun reflecting off the pans.

The one where you needed a minimum of 500 hrs in a regular “Slick” C-130 before you could apply.
I have watched Instructor Pilots rip the controls from the left seater. I have seen Flight Engineers push throttles up without asking and cuss out the Pilot cause we were not making the climb gradient and were gunna hit the mountain.
I’ve seen Aircrew young, old, black, white, brown, male, or female get absolutely berated during Hot Wash or Debrief because they failed in training.
Ive seen grown women cry after their mission execution got torn to pieces on an after action report.
So why didn’t the experienced Pilot take control of the Helo and avoid the crash?
BECAUSE HE WAS AFRAID TO OFFEND THE PILOT!
That’s the climate we live in!
We don’t train that way anymore.
There is no more 500 hr requirement for AFSOC.
People are scared to offend.
People are scared to enforce.
People are scared to give feedback.
WE HAVE FAILED at our duty to grow the next generation.
We have to get back to a place where we can fail in training. Take your licks from your superiors and become a better Airmen because of it. Don’t get offended by failure. Learn from it. Because we have to be able to train the way we fight.
There is still time to fix it. But it’s going to take EFFORT and for the people that have seen the old way to stick around and make it right.
We need leadership to support rigorous training and empower folks to get tough on their subordinates. There are lives at stake.
Failure….? But, but, but…what about those participation trophies?

Rah, thank you for that post. I completely agree with you. I always learned by my mistakes, took the criticism, and didn’t repeat the mistake. It is this “afraid to offend”, that is ruining this country! I pray it changes for the better.
Training if for learning your mistakes and the ribbing or failure on gets is to set that lesson in stone in ones mind. Peer pressure is more effective than command pressure. It is one thing to have your squadron commander chew your ass once, but quite another to catch days of guff from your peers over time. They don’t let you forget it.
Fortunately rah, I always went to a “different drummer”, even in high school, so peer pressure was not an issue, as I truly didn’t care what others thought. Followed my own intuition and it has never failed me.
It frustrated the other students. I just laughed and went on my merry way doing my own thing.

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
Give me a good night’s sleep I pray, knowing that there is no condemnation because I am in Christ, and may I wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray,

Heavenly Father, as I lie down to sleep tonight, I pray that You would guard my sleeping and protect my mind from wandering thoughts and unnecessary planning. Teach me to wait for Your perfect timing and not to try to plan my future in my own strength.
Lord, I know that You have scheduled every day of my life. Help me to trust You in all things and rely on You to lead me along the straight path and guide me in the direction that You would have me to go.
