We, too, used to sleep with our window open in Wales, though none of our many and diverse cats seemed interested in hopping up to observe…thankfully because our bedroom was on the second floor (or the first, if one adopted the styling of two story or more buildings in Brit terms…ground floor, then first).
But we loved waking in the early morning and listening to the many lovely birds chirping away which hung around. No sound like it 😌

Yes, she’s finishing high school. Officially she finishes May 25th. Online is May 9th, but she has a Constitution class and Financial Peace University that she’ll complete for me, as well.
The counselor is not for her education. It’s for a difficult matter that came up a week ago that must be dealt with. Not great.
I have a lot of respect for this Christian woman and… when I needed to cry “Uncle!” and plead for help with this sensitive matter… she was generous to see us immediately. She then blessed us with an open spot for Savannah on Sundays, so she could counsel with her and I could attend church while they meet. She’s a Godsend.
I need to get in there too, but one thing at a time… and my hands are full. Most urgent matters first.

It is storming here and raining hard. I will be wearing my rubber boots when I feed my horse, chickens and little Cleo, I’ve named my stray cat Cleo as she looks like she is wearing heavy eye liner. I have assumed it is a female. When she walks away from me, with tail high, I see no “boy anatomy”.
Still working on her trust. It’s going to take some time I guess. Patience will have to be implemented longer than I was hoping.

I had a pair of Wellies when I lived in Wales. Indispensable in a land which was so green and lush because of the abundance of rain and a big, bautiful garden which I adored to be in. My sister in law with her horses had quite a few pair which she wore all the time, outside, inside, down to the shops…everywhere. I’ve got a mental picture of you now 😉👍🏻
Our two little waifs have moved on I am very sad to say. Here on a daily basis with one who settled so well, then one day gone. We do miss them but especially the one we eventually named “Buddy”. I just hope they both are permanent residents with someone in our neighbourhood…can’t bear to think otherwise.

Yes, sis…we are sad about it. But we stand ready with food and accommodation just in case they are on extended leave only. And if they were only passing through, for the next ones which might cross our paths 💕 We are every creature’s port in a storm, fur or feathers.
A few years ago a very fluffy waif stuck around all Winter and into Spring, then one day no longer here. My Hope was it found another place that would take care of it.
At my big ranch I had an invisible sign, only visible to waif cats and dogs. They took full advantage of my hospitality. Have lost count how many I took care of, including many pregnant ones. After their litters, I’d take them to the vet and have them spayed and if male, neutered. Found homes for the puppies and some of the kittens, but some of the kittens stayed around and lived in my big horse barn and my office in the barn. They were great mousers!
I kept all of the dogs that showed up, as I had a very large farm house at the time and a one acre fenced in yard around the house. Loved every one of them and miss them all.
When I moved, doggos came with me and what was left of the barn cats. I hope to see them all when I get to Heaven.
I wish I could find some Wellingtons. Have not been able to find any. I shall keep looking. They are absolutely the best boots for damp and rainy.

You are my kind of gal, Pat. All our Welsh waifs were barn cats, completely different from the Texas ferals. But when we moved back, for some reason all the neighbourhood ferals found us. Had their litters which we had neutered or spayed until it became extortionate. Then we discovered our local adoption shelter, staffed in lovely quarters with animal lovers, would take, fix, then adopt out after vetting putative families. Dogs and cats.
One feral deigned to come in but loved her outside. So I served as doorkeeper as she came and went. When it came time for her litter, I watched to see where in the house she favoured (under our bed of course) and set up the nursery…where they stayed until they were old enough to go for adoption (though our very good neighbours took two, for which we were very grateful.)
Your homestead sounds just perfect for the side project you so obviously enjoy. One with considerable recompense from those you’ve rescued. Like Corny above, I know your heart is a big one….bless you 💕

Afternoon, dear Bet. Just got back from lunch at a favorite roadhouse. Little ‘Tink wanted to go out last night so I didn’t have my usual kitty companion sleeping on my shoulder. I don’t mind her doing this occasionally because she always stays in ‘her’ yard and is savvy about staying out of sight potential predators.
A plumber was here most of a week and just made things worse. A broken drain has made the kitchen sink unusable. A major leak in the shower has attracted the attention of the city gatekeepers who sent me a couple of vaguely dire emails. To dissuade them, I turned off the water at the street, turning it on only when I need it. So here I am ‘camping out’ in my historic neighborhood surrounded by doll houses for grown-ups.
Lesson learned: ask the plumbers if they have experience working on hundred year old houses with antique plumbing. Be well, love. And have a blessed Easter. 🙂

If there is any silver lining, I suppose it is that the weather is mild and this didn’t happen on the dead of winter. Small solace I know…
Our house in Wales was built on 1869, and outside of replacing the slate roof and painting, the rest was solid, no issues. We were grateful. Our very lovely and efficient plumber here has now moved to Oklahoma. He was local with his own business, not with one of the bigger companies. So when he told us last time he was here replacing our boiler that his long time planned move was about to happen, I could have wept.
He and his wife were at the Capitol on Jan 6,2020, though he was not actually that near the building. He showed us the photos….he was pretty close though, close enough for me to worry that the Feds would target him. He’s a true warm hearted good ole boy who doesn’t take guff off anyone. A roll of the dice could have seen it happen.

So after he was “chopped and channeled”, my better half cared for him 24 hrs for several while days while he was still tender and bleeding a bit from the surgical wounds. He healed up well but never lost his very strong attachment to my wife.
Thursday I pressure washed my zero turn including under the deck. No scraping necessary to clean the deck after I pressure washed it. I used my blower to dry it initially and then drove it into the garage with one front tire up on a auto ramp and let it sit overnight to finish drying.
That was the first time I pressure washed under the mower deck and it and it will be something I only do every few years because it can cause premature spindle failure if you make a habit of it.
Yesterday I changed the air filter, blades, and spark plugs. I even torqued the spark plugs in to the specified 14 ft/lb. Had to adjust the gap to spec on both new spark plugs before installing them. Old plugs looked pretty darn good for being 3 years old. Inspected all belts and electrical connections also. I also adjusted the deck so that it is mowing level and that gave me another excuse to use my new torque wrench.
Then I went and mowed the yard and pulled the mower back in and with the engine still hot on the level garage floor and changed the oil and filter. It has a Kawasaki engine which is even more common these days than having a Kohler. For those that may have a Kawasaki mower or tractor engine, I highly recommend you use only Kawasaki oil in it. For my mower it’s 20W-40 synthetic with zinc. Always best to change the oil in an air cooled engine when it is at operating temp. Running the engine circulates the sludge that would otherwise sit in the bottom of the engine if you changed it cold and the hot oil drains faster.
Usually I idle the engine a few minutes before engaging the blades and throttling up to mow and when I’m done I let it idle for a few minutes before shutting it down. But to change the oil you want it a operating temp so you shut it down hot.
So now that $4,200, 4 year old mower looks, runs, and cuts like new.
Will be ordering two new sets of blades and a set of belts for it to have on hand.

Well I grew up in the family business which was a steel fabrication and metals service center. So I was around a lot of old knowledegable guys every summer when in school and later working there and for others before I went into the Army. Started out helping install ornamental iron, then painting ornamental iron, then fabricating ornamental iron and then moved on to working with structural steel fabrications there.
I worked for Insley MFG as a welder fabricating components for excavators welding 1″ and 2″ plate, and for Lapel Sheet metal fabricating ducting. So my pre Army experience covered basically the whole range of different kinds of metal fabrication involving welding and fabricating galvanized ducting.
I don’t watch “reality” television, because REALITY is enough for me… but if I were on Survivor Island… I’d want to be on your team!!! Lol

I took it easy a couple days after the biopsy and am now back at it. Since it’s a rainy day I’m just sorting and c;leaning tools and organizing them in my new tool box and cabinet and sorting misc, fasteners and hardware and putting them in the plastic storage trays I have. It sure will be nice when I can quickly find what I’m looking for.
Meanwhile Sherry and my oldest Granddaughter are in the kitchen making Deviled Eggs and Spinach Dip for the Easter family get together tomorrow.
Think I’m going to go out and get pizza for dinner for all of us.

I think Dixie Chopper and X-Mart are the two best, but they’re too proud of them. I bought what I needed to do my acre and odds are it will outlast my mowing days.
One thing I would say to anyone buying a zero turn. Stay away from any of the brands that that don’t have the blades attached directly to the spindles but instead have shafts coming down from the spindles. That’s what Toro, Skaggs, and even John Deere had in the class of mower I was looking for, so I didn’t even consider any of them.
I spray a good coat of silicone spray under my mower decks after cleaning to help prevent damp grass clippings from sticking.
I do that on snow shovels and snow blowers as well. Snow slides right off.

No way to lube/ grease the spindle bearing(s) ?
No! They’re supposedly sealed. I have seen some with zerts, but not on my mower or on Steve;s X-Marts.
Was figuring you’d say that. I guess for the majority of people a sealed bearing is better because they don’t remember to lubricate them often enough.
But it’s a shame you can’t hose off the underside of the deck as a routine task. I also heard of some folks taken spray, silicone or even PAM cooking spray and coating the underside so that the grass doesn’t stick.
No matter how bad your Friday was, this guy’s was worse

(1899-1975)
African American chemist who received 130 patents, pioneer in the chemical synthesis of medicinal drugs from plants, dies at 76
Biography: Percy Lavon Julian had a distinguished career as a chemist and was a leading figure in 20th century efforts to synthesis medicinal drugs from plants. He was the first African-American chemist to be inducted into the National Academy of Sciences.
As an African American Julian encountered and fought prejudice throughout his life. Harvard University would not allow him to study for his doctorate and was denied a professorship at DePauw University on racial grounds.
In 1935 at DuPauw Julian became the first person to synthesize the drug physostigmine, making the drug available for the treatment of glaucoma.
In 1936 Julian went to work as a research director for Glidden, where he produced many successful patents and products, including a fire-retardant foam for gasoline fires, which saved many lives during WWII. Julian also greatly improved the process to produce Cortisone, so it could be more widely used to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
In 1953 Julian went out on his own and founded the successful Julian Laboratories and later the Julian Research Institute. In honor of his scientific achievements and advocacy for human rights a number of schools in the Chicago are named after Julian and a US postage stamp was issued in 1993.

COMMENTARY FOR JOHN 15
Christ the true Vine. (1-8) His love to his disciples. (9-17) foretold. (18-25) The Comforter promised. (26,27)1-8 Jesus Christ is the Vine, the true Vine. The union of the human and Divine natures, and the fulness of the Spirit that is in him, resemble the root of the vine made fruitful by the moisture from a rich soil. Believers are branches of this Vine.
9-17 Those whom God loves as a Father, may despise the hatred of all the world. As the Father loved Christ, who was most worthy, so he loved his disciples, who were unworthy. All that love the Saviour should continue in their love to him, and take all occasions to show it. The joy of the hypocrite is but for a moment, but the joy of those who abide in Christ’s love is a continual feast. They are to show their love to him by keeping his commandments. If the same power that first shed abroad the love of Christ’s in our hearts, did not keep us in that love, we should not long abide in it. Christ’s love to us should direct us to love each other. He speaks as about to give many things in charge, yet names this only; it includes many duties.
18-25 How little do many persons think, that in opposing the doctrine of Christ as our Prophet, Priest, and King, they prove themselves ignorant of the one living and true God, whom they profess to worship! The name into which Christ’s disciples were baptized, is that which they will live and die by. It is a comfort to the greatest sufferers, if they suffer for Christ’s name’s sake. The world’s ignorance is the true cause of its hatred to the disciples of Jesus. The clearer and fuller the discoveries of the grace and truth of Christ, the greater is our sin if we do not love him and believe in him.”

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
