I was quite fond of keeping turtles as pets when I was a youngster and teenager.
Started out with the red eared sliders from the 1960’s pet stores. They did not fare to well.
Took much better care of the Eastern Painted turtles and common snappers when I was a little older.
Kept them for a while and turned them loose in the wild, where they belong. Did not have the room for adults of the species. Never caught a baby painted or wood turtle that would have been aquarium sized.
Now keeping wildlife like that in NYS is verbotten without the necessary licenses and permits from the NYSDEC.

Sitting on a comfortable patio at my favorite restaurant, I felt this gentle touch on my lap. Looking down I saw the most soulful pair of soft brown Border Collie eyes looking up at me. Sweetie had claimed me as ‘her person’. Of course she came home with me and settled into a wonderful 8 year relationship. Good dog. 🙂

I had this cheap little ‘record player’ . . . You really couldn’t call it a stereo. But it was good enough to introduce me to Segovia. Listening to those old Decca recordings with his luminous Hauser guitar was a magical experience. I was transported. How can somebody play that well? Well, that was what Segovia did. He was, indeed, the greatest living classical guitarist. Ever.
From Segovia, I slowly moved on to lute music and was, again, transported by guys like Hoppy Smith. What a great learning experience when you are all of 21 yeaars old . . .
Segovia’s name…and his artistry…were the first I came to associate with the guitar. When you hear such a gift, you just know you’re listening to genius. But to meet him?? And Pepe? Bet you could hardly believe it. My musical journey started when I was 14 and has been the greatest source of earthly joy throughout my life. I know you know what I mean…👍🏻😘
Growing up, my Aunt lived near the Opera and Symphony in Philadelphia. At an early age, she would take me for the weekend and introduced me to symphony music, operas and ballets.
I treasure those memories. To this day, I have a great library of operas, symphony and ballet music. The three tenors concerts are still one of my all time favorite recordings.
Ohhhhh…the very type of music and performance which sustains me, girl, and has since I was a teenager. What a wonderful aunt she was, introducing you at an early age to such works. Such a beautiful memory to have of her and what a legacy she left with you. Sigh…💕
Yes, and I was able to enrich her senior years after she went into a facility. I would pick her up and take her to those very same symphonies, ballets and operas when she was able.
When my son and daughter-in-law moved here to Texas, I was able to get season tickets for Bass Hall in Fort Worth for the two of us. It was a great way to spend girl time together for Sunday matinees.
I confess that Puccini is my favorite opera composer.

Israel Update:
Gaza:
-I didn’t post an update for a couple of weeks mainly because I didn’t see much news. Overall Israel is bombing locations in Gaza where we know there are terrorists and they get some 20-60 killed per day. This is not the actual “Hell” that Trump talked about.
This is directed to increase pressure on Gaza to a point that they cut a hostage release deal.
Remember also that the humanitarian aide stopped too so the time is against them.
-Yesterday the IDF bombed an UNRWA location that we know was used as a Command and Control of Hamas. Some 16 got killed. Hamas is covering it as “an attack on innocent people and claims 9 children killed.” The IDF has evidence and documentation that the place was what we say it was.
-There are ground forces also involved. Not massive yet. The IDF in the past sliced Gaza at the Nezarim Corridor that is a few miles area that divides South from North Gaza.
We now are holding about 70% of it again. Some % is used for the Gazans to move out to the South. The IDF is still holding the Philadelphi Corridor that is at the border with Egypt. And we now deployed Div 36 that includes tanks and the Golani Infantry Brigade, and they are creating another corridor that is parallel to the Philadelphi Corridor a couple of miles North of Philadelphi. This separates another part of South Gaza and it is between two strategic cities, Rafah and Khan Yunis. Now there is a large area in Rafah that is surrounded.
-There were some demonstrations in Gaza against Hamas. A few days ago of a few thousands at a few cities. They are not “peace loving people”, they simply are fed up with the war as they take personal toll. Then Hamas got a few demonstrators and tortured and killed them and the demonstration stopped and today it is happening again. There are different schools of thoughts as to what it’s all about. Some claim it is organized by Hamas to create international pressure against Israel. I think its real, but only if I was to see tens of thousands of people protesting and some help to release hostages, then I would take it seriously.
But it does have a psychological effect in Gaza and the IDF is encouraging it with leaflets of “We must release Gaza from the grip of Hamas”.
-There were a couple of rockets from Gaza to Israel a few times last week. No injuries.
Right now the pressure is for hostage release but if Israel will conclude that we have no results, we are planing on calling in massive Reserves and conquer Gaza again. But this time hold the grounds and any aide. Once it starts there is no stoping, it will be massive. Previously the Chief of Staff used the Raids system of moving in and out. This time with the new Chief of Staff the plan is to hold the lands and rule until a solution is found.
-There are various reports of a hostage deal. The latest was that Hamas agreed to release some 5 living hostages and a few dead for 50 days of aide and quiet and terrorists released and Israel is asking for 11 alive and some 15 or so dead for 40 days and many released terrorists.
But there are also conflicting reports that Hamas are not agreeing for any of it which is why Israel stepped up the pressure with the Div 36 Ground force.
-Hamas are now quietly changing the casualty lists of the War. All of a sudden there is minus 3.600 dead and all of a sudden 1,600 “Women and Children dead” are deleted.
Now it appears that 72% of the deaths are combat aged males.
Previously they claimed that 70% of the deaths are “women and children”. If you ever watch any video from Gaza you know that there are no 70% women and children. But the World bought the lies. There is a massive operation led by Al Jazeera and Hamas to film every child that was killed with extra drama. A real propaganda. In the Arab world they think that the IDF is fighting children and not terrorists. As if there are zero terrorists in Gaza, just children that the IDF is targeting “intentionally”. Watch any video from Gaza and you see Hamas surrounded by children. It’s a strategy. And the civilians are not forced, they admire the Hamas and praise them. Every Israeli hostage that returned is telling the same story. That the “civilians” treated them as bad as Hamas.
Syria:
-This is big. Reports that Turkey are mobilizing forces to occupy the T4 base in central Syria that was a Russian Air Base before they left. They apparently want to place there the SAM4 most advanced Surface to Air Russian Missiles. And also drones and other missiles.
This apparently was agreed upon between Turkey and the new Leader of Syria in exchange for military aide. This is intended to deter Israeli air activities in Syria and can interrupt an Israeli attack on Iran. I read about it and just after I read I see the Israeli Air-force started bombing the Syrian Air bases in that area and apparently the T4 base too.
Massive attacks. They are destroying it before the Turkish are establishing themselves there.
There are reports of serious damage to the Air Bases. This is a clear signal to Erdogan the Turkish Leader. Turkish grip like they planned is a huge problem and puts Israel on a collision course with Turkey. Since Turkey is a member of NATO they are supposed to aide Turkey in a case of war. This could lead to theoretically a Prophetic war of NATO against Israel.
But NATO is not ever likely to mess with Israel. I remember from my stay in the US talking with a few Marines. They all said that they know and admire the IDF and it’s about the only military they would rather not face, ever. NATO is not likely to try something stupid but it’s all tension that Turkey is creating with their colonialist aims.
Turkey has almost a million soldiers. But they are not a neighboring nation.
The IDF is still holding the high positions in South Syria in case anyone wants to move to our borders.
I just read before posting this that the IDF did sabotage the Turkish plan to establish itself there.
Lebanon:
-Reports that the US is pressuring the Lebanese President to disarm Hezbollah.
Hezbollah will not be disarmed.
-Israel is still holding 5 positions in Lebanon very close to the border.
Houthis:
-Trump is still serious about them and is bombing them daily. They fire to Israel a few times per week, unsuccessfully. Overall they must be in trouble now.
Iran:
-Trump is increasing the pressure on Iran with more sanctions on their oil industry.
There are rumors that they may come to negotiate. Their ideal is to drag negotiations while they build the bombs. Apparently Iran got until May before Trump uses force against them.
The International Energy Agency said that they have 60% enriched uranium that is enough quantity to build 6 bombs in a week. There are more parts that are needed to build a bomb so I sense that the “one week to a bomb” is more of an alert than reality. It’s one week after you have all the parts. But there is an urgency there. It must be dealt with sooner than later.
Israeli Deep State:
–Israel’s Police arrested two Aides from Bibi’s Office under the suspicion of “trying to make good PR for Qatar because of ties to a US business man who apparently lobbies for Qatar.”.
This is both police and Shabak investigation (Shabak is Israel’s FBI). It all started after Bibi decided to fire the Head of Shabak. Now the firing of the Head of Shabak is at the Supreme Court as potentially illegal to do. We shall know in a couple of weeks. They created a “conflict of interstate” related to firing the Head of Shabak. This is very much like the “Russia, Russia, Russia…” BS that was aimed at Trump all over the media.
Tariffs:
-Israel got hit with a 17% tariff. Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia 10%. Jordan 20%.
European Union 20%. China 35%. UK 10%. Indian 26%. Japan 24%. South Korea 25%. Turkey 10%.
Israeli exports to the US was 34 Billion dollars in 2024.
In Israel it is not understood why 17% ? Trying to understand. Some thoughts that it was based on wrong data. I don’t know the facts yet. I think it is justified because Israeli tariffs and other taxes on imports (not just US products) are insane (for example. Toyota Camry in Israel is about $62,000, Ford Explorer SUV is about $110,000 in Israel).
If this will lead to decreased tariffs on American products it may be a blessing.
Israel canceled tariffs on American Agriculture just last week in an effort to prevent the upcoming tariffs so we already saw motion that is good for consumers.
Still Israel stays competitive against the European Union. The main collaboration of Israel and the US is in Military Industry. Israel has unique products so I doubt that it will be very critical, I sense that there may be some adjustments, specially on military industry that Israel is working very close with the Americans and American companies and engineers and the benefits in terms of security products are mutual. Overall I do understand where Trump is coming from. I wish you that it will result in a flourishing of US manufacturing.
I know the pride that patriots feel when they see great local products. Unfortunately inflation is the “pain before the gain”.

But the US is also buying Military supplies from Israel. For example the Trophy active defense systems for tanks, or the helicopter’s helmets for pilots which aim guns through the motion of the head, armors for vehicles, etc…

Say a prayer for the people down in Arkansas and western TN. They’re in for two more days of heavy rains and severe weather threats. Not just the storms but flooding with severe thunderstorms rolling over them for another 48 hours.
There were times when Ryan Hall showed something like 20 tornado warnings up at the same time. They just couldn’t keep up with them at times.
Now I’m headed for bed. Still haven’t got our power back so the new GENERAC is getting it’s first real workout. Sure nice not having to break out the lanterns and the jugs of water for flushing the toilet, and worrying about opening the fridge or freezer doors, etc.
Rah, if that Generac is new, I would advise you to turn it off every 8 hours for an hour or so. Close eye on the oil level. Turn the breaker off first then shut down the engine after a couple of minutes. This will cool the electrical windings. Will prolong the life span of the system. 40-year generator tech here.
Thanks for the advise. It’s a 26 Kw model (G0072910) running on natural gas. It is new. I bought July of last year and it was installed in late September. It is set to exercise once a week. So far it has run under load for one hour and then this time it ran under load for about 5 hours. (We got power back just as I was headed for bed.) Makes sense to break it in.
How many times should I shut it down after 8 hours before it’s broke in? The manual says to shut it down when it has run 24 hours to let it cool and to check the oil.
My advice is to do this process until it has 100 operating hours. These units fall under the design of “standby” use defined as no more than 8 hours at a time. That unit will last a long time with proper maintenance.
Thank you again. I’ll follow your advise. I had my cousin that is an electrician install it. He has installed quite a few of them. After that I had at Generac technician come out to check it and the installation.
The installation was done after I had some major additions to the house that included a heated garage. Based on the advise of the gas company I had a larger regulator installed and a 1″ gas line run to where the generator was going to be mounted.
I bought the shut off valve with the manometer port on it so pressure could be checked without taking off the inlet panel. When the Generac technician came out I asked him if he needed to check the gas pressure to ensure it was within the proper operating parameters. He said he didn’t need to. Said could tell the unit was getting the proper pressure because it ran and how sounded when it was running.
Since we get sub zero temps here at times I opted for buying a Optima red top battery for it instead of a conventional battery that would have required a battery heating pad according to the manual. Before I used it I checked it and and charged it with my digital charger that has the AGM setting. It has worked fine despite having a few days with lows below zero this winter.
The engine for this unit may require valve adjustment and it is recommended in the manual it be checked for that after the first 25 hours of operation and then every 400 hours afterwards. The technician told me that I would know when it needed the valve adjustment just by listening to the engine when it shut down. Said the difference would be obvious.
There are the standard Generac service plans and then the local dealer offers their own which is more expensive but provides more services for the money, like battery replacement. They also monitor the unit remotely via the phone app. About $430.00 per year for that service.
Any other recommendations or comments based on the info provided above would be much appreciated.

An insane 226 tornado warnings have been issued in the last 12 hours across the United States as a major tornado outbreak unfolds. Multiple strong to potentially violent nighttime tornadoes have impacted communities across Mississippi and Tennessee in the past hour.
No kidding. I watched Ryan Hall several hours last night. I don’t know how he does it. Several places in NW Arkansas and western TN had tornado warnings over and over.
I watched him also. Went to bed after they had been on nearly 12 hours straight.

Here in Ontario we had unbelievable thunder storms roll through all night. We started with a heavy snow yesterday to very heavy rain last night.

His posting warned us to be watching and the alarms from the authorities were simply inadequate in my neck of the woods.
There is some damage in adjacent towns, but it’s small and thus far from what I’m hearing no loss to human life. Took out a couple of those nasty warehouses, couple houses, and a barn… I lament for the job loss in this warehouses, but not for the structures that overtook our farm land. About 100,000 out of power due to storm debris.
The birds are SO LOUD this morning. No doubt disrupted in their breeding and nesting routine. Poor things.
Our Maine Coon Harry is “broken” and growling at everyone except me… so he seems to be a bit weak of constitution. Wonder if kiddo hurt him shoving him in the carrier. I’ll know more later when I can check him over. For now, I’m at my Carmel office.

Thanks for checking up on us all. I think Harry got hurt shoving him into a too small carrier. He’s just a big boy and we really need to get a second soft pop up air travel carrier. We put the two gargantuan barn girl kitties in that one and the males each had their own – but we grow us some mighty big kitties! Harry is not “big” in the sense of Maine Coons – they can get really large. He’s small for Maine Coon, but big for standard house cat. I think he struggled with Savannah and lost. Gave him some Cosequin today to help him out. He’s got a hip dysplasia thing too… so there’s that.
Awaiting more rains. Our lake is plumb full but not near as bad as some other friends’. Their lake is at the top of the bank, so nowhere to go with the extra water. We are anticipating flooding.

37-49 All these sayings Christ often used; it was easy to apply them. We ought to be very careful when we blame others; for we need allowance ourselves. Though full and exact returns are made in another world, not in this world, yet Providence does what should encourage us in doing good. Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

Also there is the ‘shedding’ of the spike proteins from a vaccinated person to a non-vaccinated person, that should be looked into. Are there any people left with non-contaminated (with spike proteins) blood?
I used to be a blood donor. Nowadays I certainly would never have a transfusion.
I did an autologous donation for my own use, if necessary, prior to a Prostatectomy in July 2021.
I used to donate to the Red Cross up until going on active surveillance in 2016. Then I could not donate because of active cancer, even though it was confined.
I am clear now, but have not gone back to donating yet.
I take a whole regimen of the immune system boosters. I have my mother on them as well – with her doctor’s blessing.

The hospital I had the surgery, Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. did it.
They have their own donation center.
My blood was discarded after the surgery, as all unscreened autologous donations are.
Before the advent of robotic surgery for prostate removal, sometimes additional blood was needed during open surgery.
The prostate is located deep in the body and is surrounded by nerves, blood vessels and other structures that make access problematic.
Blood is rarely needed with the robotic surgery, I was in the Boy Scouts, so the motto “be prepared” stuck with me.
I think most major hospitals have autologous donation programs for people that are having major surgery and are healthy enough to bank their own blood.
I only did one unit. I cannot remember how many weeks you have to wait to donate a second. I am pretty sure that two would be the max because of the shelf life. It was 2 at Roswell.

Nor I. I like the advice regarding nattokinase. I use a product called.- Nattoserra. It contains serrapeptase in addition to nattokinase. Good stuff!

Each capsule has 40,000 spu serrapeptase and
2000 fu of nattokinase (sorry for that – just copying! 😁)
Also, a miniscule amount of calcium. I am not a fan of supplementing calcium – complicated, but we essentially get enough from diet, and too much is unhealthy.
Serrapeptase and nattokinase work differently, but both are pretty amazing – keep in mind that there are blood thinning properties attributed to both.

However this reporting has an even more sinister aspect – as the media appears to have taken their lede from the World Health Organization.

But what about Canada’s outbreak? Why isn’t Canada mentioned in the travel advisory? Was it an oversight? Did the WHO release a travel advisory just for Canada?
