Good morning, dear Bet! Yesterday our youngest son and his wife adopted a 1 year old shepherd mix. Sweet girl and it looks like she made herself immediately at home. Her previous owner was moving and was going to turn her to the Humane Society. Our son is staring a long anticipated new job on Monday. Prayers the he sticks with it and his wife stays busy enough with the pup so they can move on with life.

Our Father full of mercies and lovingkindness saw our son through from the absolute bottom to today, having turned his life over to Him and baptized some 20 years later. Just starting my first cuppa, so there is that.
Anyhoo, we effectively spend half the year in MST and half in PDT. It causes a little mischief with phone calls “back east” or TV schedules and such – but……..the fur kids don’t notice at all!
This picture is 20 years old, but one of my favorites still – our grandson with Thatcher, our Brittany Spaniel. He loved that she had the same color “hair” as she!

The odd few “wisdoms” ( as my sweet hairdresser callls the grays) pop through, but not enough for me to say, ” Oh look your age for pity’s sake!” and just forget the colour. Then comes the time when I have to decide….and I simply can’t do it.

These are not normal times and if the SCOTUS continues to operate in it’s normal slow paced manner, it will find itself slipping into irrelevancy and when it starts going down that drain, all of the lower courts will also.

I have the TV on for ‘company’, and the program is often “Emergency” from the 1970s. I noticed that they depict the nurses standing around while the doctors start IVs and ‘treat’. I know, it’s TV and not real –
BUT
In today’s medicine a nurse or other tech does the work. If you have a doctor visit, it will not last long.
Maybe?
Maybe the effort to sideline competent doctors has left them vulnerable and seeking additional sources of income?
Has anyone else noticed the shift to ‘Techs” doing the work doctors used to do?

I worked for one particular ophthalmologist who had 3 of us check for glaucoma, do a rudimentary visual field test, check vision, do a refraction, write a new glasses prescription, refill medications, take a history, and only then deliver the patient to the physician where he stood (delivered a scripted speech written by a consulting firm to ” save time and increase efficiency”, signed the rx’s written by us and reassured the patient that the new glasses would work great……..or tell them it wouldn’t, and sign them up for cataract surgery. Whereupon, we did scheduling, implant measurements, pre-op, scrubbed surgery, and then post-op. Phew!
Most of his patients adored him and he adored the benefits. Owned 3+ beautiful homes.
He eventually expected us to take emergency call for him – a bridge Way too far.
At the time, I was sole support for my son and myself and couldn’t leave without equal or better benefits. I found that finally, and had years of working with ethical people -a joy!

Your description of the eye clinic is just like mine. Perhaps a slight difference. This group has a number of clinics around east and south Idaho. Every time I visit there are new ‘techs’.
But it’s similar to ‘work’ done at my primary care visit.

I keep regular old Medicare, and pay a fortune for part B and part D supplementals just to keep my doc of 39 years and not need permssion to go where I choose for care.
My husband, a nurse himself, has a nurse practitioner for his primary care – he’s fine with it, though he has literally never seen the MD associated with the practice.
I just read the other day that nurse practitioners in many states need No experience actually working as an RN to get to that designation. They can go straight from their BSN to Nurse prac training. Other states require a designated period of time working as an RN before getting that further degree. I happen to think the hands on experience is Essential.
Absolutely, the MDs do less.
Ironically though, I think it’s more about them being able to cram in more billable patients/hour than anything else.
it’s about earning more $ for the respective ‘parent company’ (medical group) than it is about competency, per se, in my opinion.
so they ‘do less’ in the hands-on part, but they have to cram in many patients/day to rack up the earnings.
I’ll tell you who else better get their ass in gear. AG Pam Bondi. I bet she’s going to find herself on the outside looking in if the Epstein, JFK, and MLK files are released soon and in their entirety and if we don’t see indictments of some bad actors coming down.
