She slept on my shoulder again last night, obligingly moved when I needed to get up . . . and then politely settled in again when I returned to bed. Had a good night’s sleep until med-time this morn. I owe a lot to the recommendation of a very close friend—she found an excellent surgeon who is very easy to deal with (aka putting up with my high anxiety :-)). Two followups a week apart and then we’ll return for the right eye’s surgery. Thanks for caring, Bet, I really appreciate it.

Enjoying the cheap rent, I lived there for a couple of years. Upstairs was a collection of fellow students while, downstairs in the basement there was another collection of hippy trolls we never saw. I knew they were there but they completely so kept to themselves I never saw ’em. Then there was the older hippy guy who lived in the VW van in the backyard. It was that kind of place . . . 🙂
Every morning, walking to class, I was always cheered by the happy ‘good morning’ greetings of the young women coming out of your apartments. It was a most satisfying experience and a great way to start my day. Judging by their distinctive north Dallas accents, I presumed they were sorority sisters . . .
Oh those memories!! And yes, I do remember it.
Talk about two worlds side by side…sorority girls (of which I was not one, though my oldest was a Pi Phi at Baylor) and those free spirited people you knew. They would have been my preference had I as I am now been then. I was a small town fish out of water in Austin, too regimented in my outlook and too cloistered by my rearing. But it was a good area to walk through all right. I always think we live our lives the wrong way around; and when I am looking back on those years, this thought strikes me forcefully.

The cataract surgery went quite well. I have a lens with some near sightedness and a bias for long vision. I’ll need to wear glasses which is something I’ve done for most of my life. One more surgery to go and, hopefully, I’m done with doctors for awhile . . . 🙂

Sounds like the perfect combo. Your ophthalmologist will learn something from how your vision is with your new lens and perhaps tweak the one for your other eye. Measuring and figuring for these iol’s (intraocular lenses) was one part of my job for many years. It was the goal to get as close to spot on as possible – I’m sure things have only gotten more precise since those days.

The warmer weather will help, so will moving enough to get the blood flowing and increasing the body temperature……and that ain’t easy when it hurts so bad you don’t wanna move.
Hope the pain lets up.
1. Hurt and hate it but keep moving.
2. If you keep moving, you can keep moving.
3. May God have mercy on you and help with the back pain.
Words to live by.. Amen, buddy. I have too many people and critters to take care of to be all messed up!
Remember that if you quit moving you could end up in a health care facility!! Having worked in one for 24 years I have seen many cases where people just quit moving. I did physical therapy and it was a daily challenge to keep residents moving as much as possible.

Good advice. You were so nice to engage with me regarding my husband’s back issues when he had his laminectomy last May. Though he initially did quite well, he’s had many setbacks since then, and is scheduled for his third epidural on Monday. They’re iffy – don’t work or work temporarily, but, the pain is so constant, they seem worth the effort.

Proverbs 27:1
Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Verses 1-6. – These verses are grouped in pairs, each two being connected in subject. Verse 1. – Boast not thyself of tomorrow. He boasts himself (Proverbs 25:14) of tomorrow who counts upon it presumptuously, settles that he will do this or that, as if his life was in his own power, and he could make sure of time. This is blindness and arrogance. For thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. Our Lord gave a lesson on this matter in the parable of the rich fool (Luke 12.); and an analogous warning, based on our verse, is given by St. James (James 4:13, etc.).

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Why have egg-laying chickens been hit harder?
Broiler chickens aren’t immune to bird flu, but their shorter life cycle could leave flocks less susceptible to major outbreaks.
Broilers are typically slaughtered within two months, whereas egg-layers take longer to mature and only start producing after four to five months. Once those hens start laying eggs, the cycle can last over a year.
Less time on the farm means broilers have less of an opportunity to be exposed to the virus.
“I tend to think that’s a pretty good explanation,” Anderson said. “I don’t know that anybody knows for sure.”
The shorter life cycle also means that when a broiler flock is lost, it can be replaced faster.
Geography matters, too. Broilers are primarily produced in the Southeast, which hasn’t been as affected by the recent outbreak compared to major egg-producing states like Iowa and Ohio.

When a test comes back positive for bird flu, the whole flock gets culled to help prevent the spread of the virus, and egg-laying chickens are typically housed in larger flocks.
