State Farm canceled California homeowners’ insurance policies months before wildfires
The insurance company’s reasoning for canceling policies for people living in Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles County, California, was due to elevated concerns associated with an increase in the frequency and magnitude of wildfires in the state, according to Newsweek.
The decision was announced in March, claiming it would cancel 72,000 property policies in California, 30,000 of which were home insurance policies, the Los Angeles Times reported. The cancellations went into effect over the summer. Around 1,600 homes in Pacific Palisades were victims of State Farm’s policy cancellations.
The insurance company’s decision was deemed a necessary business strategy to prevent “financial failure” allegedly due to California state laws that prevented companies from raising premiums to match the elevated risk, Newsweek reported. Other insurance companies followed State Farm’s decision, which has resulted in a significant homeowner insurance crisis in the state as residents have been limited in their options.
State Farm’s president and chief executive, Denise Hardin, rationalized her corporation’s decision in a letter to California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, explaining the need to reduce the company’s “overall exposure.” She explained that the company had endured “large underwriting losses.”

Last night I got a solid 8 plus hrs of sleep. Now, please understand that I’m not making a recommendation—that might be too provocative. Instead, I’m just sayin’.
What you do with this is entirely up to you.
I have a small circle of very good friends who share my interest in good whisky. More specifically, we engage in a decidedly southern tradition called “sippin’ . . .” Whisky sippin’ involves consuming small amounts of good whisky over time.
For me, this usually involves a period (your choice) before bedtime. And, yes, I’m mature enough to know my limits . . .
I think like to think of these times as my “Faulkner moments”. Actually, they are usually a bit longer than a moment, but you can get the picture.
Sippin’ whisky is definitely an acquired practice, something that in my case carries a lot of southern nuanced romanticism that Faulkner’s writing can communicate so well.
Faulkner isn’t everyone’s cup-of-tea I know, but for me I tend to prefer my solitudinal drinking endeavors to have an imaginary hickory campfire which provides just enough warmth to keep the chill off allowing me to relax while—perhaps—the dogs are off chasing ‘coons in the forrest. This is a very Faulkner kind of image . . .
Or maybe not. Instead, my imaginary forest setting could involve a story my father once told me. In the midst of the Great Depression night fishing was an enjoyable and inexpensive pastime.
Since he lived in outlaw county, he was often visited by armed strangers. They never introduced themselves but were always polite and happy to join him for some slow sippin’ on a cold night. Since both appeared to like the companionship, these strangers, although not quite friends, were often a common sight at his campfires. There were unspoken rules to be observed, but these guys often became oddly companionable guests at his hickory fire .
In place of my dad’s ‘shine, my Faulkner moments enjoy a choice of carefully selected good bourbon—gently sipped, of course. Before turning in this will almost always insure (for me anyway) a good night’s sleep. Last night I slept like a baby. Be well and be blessed, Treeper friends.
Such a soothing post! Not much of a whisky drinker, but a fine Port wine in front of the fireplace is pretty comforting!

We have 8 humane traps set (I know, I know. I’m a sop- no need to remind me).
Nine cats in the house and mice! Might have to put those lazy felines on half rations!
I keep all bread, crackers, pasta etc in plastic bins, yet they come. So, I will be washing cans, shelves, floor with bleach and hope the traps get the little buggers. You have to release them at least 200 feet away, so hopefully we will get some exercise too!

I’ve been dealing with two male (neutered) kitties today, trapped in the house due the snow and the frigid temperatures and started losing it over their cat fights with each other. My elder cat is about my age in cat years, 70! Anyways, I finally had it with both of my boys fighting with each other.
Have been so preoccupied all these years with the derangement syndrome that I wasn’t paying attention to them. Anyways, we worked it out tonight.
The song from Peter Gabriel ” Lay your hands on me” came to mind and I guess my elder kitty is happy now.
I want America to become a nation who is willing to experience the Holy Spirit that exists for all of us without any credo or AI attached to the experience of it. Again, or maybe for the first time.

It was kind of scary to learn the hydroxychloroquine was no longer allowed to be available to humans in the US TWO MONTHS prior to the virus descending upon the world. I guess it was proven as a REAL MEDICINE to heal a human. As well as Ivermectin, etc. No money would be made from the VAX’s if it were known there were substances that would not harm.
That is exactly how Big Pharma companies got their Emergency Use Authorization. “There was no known cure for this virus.” BULLSHIT.
I’ve had to learn to accept for many years now that humans are expendable when it comes to making money. And oh geez, my taxpayer dollars were spent on GENOCIDE. There have always been too many humans on the planet for their liking. And if we survived this last attempt at the total extinction of the human race, except for a few self selected morons, and they’ve failed at that, WHAT’s NEXT?

Calls out the King, Flag Boy, Spy Boy … all roles and figures in each tribe. The Flag Boy carries the flag, of course. The Spy Boy ventures out ahead of the tribe to spy on opposing tribes.
These tribes are the dancing and singing and marching troupes in the Mardi Gras parade, the ones with the most elaborate feathered costumes that they work on assembling and grooming all year in preparation for Mardi Gras.
There are also a couple of live bands in New Orleans who play electrified versions of songs incorporating parts of the chants. The most well known is probably the Wild Tchopitoulas … one I’ve seen is Big Chief Bo Dollis and His Mardi Gras Indians, once in a bar in the university district of New Orleans and another time at a music festival in downtown San Diego.
You can buy their music online, I’ve got a couple CDs. Highly recommended, a particular style of local funk music, mostly.
The Mardi Gras Indians tradition dates back to slavery times, when some black slaves escaped captivity and were taken in by indigenous Indian tribes and lived with them. Here’s a documentary, there are more on youtube

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

I remember going back to church after the loss of a loved one. The sermons always seemed to be speaking directly to me and my tears just flowed openly like the dam let loose. It was unbelievably healing. Take the tissues and don’t be afraid t let it out and share your memories with others. It is speaking about them that shows your love and helps keep their memory alive. Let others in and allow them to help you with whatever you might need. Never fear, your turn will come later. God will provide.

It’s been ten years since we’ve had snow/ice in our part of Georgia.
We completely shut down here – everything is closed.
Busiest airport in world here (Hartsfield) cancelled 1400 flights.
It’s been fun watching deer/birds wondering what in the world is going on!
(A first-time for them)
Northerners laugh at us when this happens, but snow/ice incapacitates us!
Thankful power is still on … just waiting for it all to melt!
Meant to say … many kids here have had a BLAST playing in this stuff!
For some, a first experience … makes me smile, seeing them enjoy this…
TEEHEE – I grew up in an area where there was little snow – when it did snow – we hastily built our fort because –
by noon – it began to melt !!!
NOW – it snows from November until the end of April where I live – and – I have no need to rush to build the fort
for the snow ball fight !!!
AND – wouldn’t ya know – it snows more where I used to live, too !!! Must be ‘climate change’ – LOL – /s

We are used to it – and – Spring is glorious here – long lasting and miraculous – everything comes to life again after the long winter sleep !!!
Flowers come and go to make way for the next variety – blooming until the end of October and into early November – a fresh bouquet each week !!!

Its been about 10 years since we have not had snow here @ 7100′ in January, people came for Christmas but it’s going to be grim business wise if we do not get any more for the Monday observed holidays upcoming for peoples “woohoo 3 day weekend”.
In picture below, usually you could not see the grocery store parking lot next door, there would be a 15+ foot high mountain where they stack snow at & would be lapping @ the back of my Outback on the left.
At least the kids there got a late Christmas gift from Santa. They may never see it again due to Climate Change ™. /s

Hey Miss.Della.B, Your post reminds me of the first year I spent up North in Philadelphia. There was a snow in Alabama and my Philadelphia station kept playing the weather updates from some local Alabama radio station. I think there were about 1/2 or 1/4 inch of snow down there and the Alabama police offered help to anyone that was stranded. The Alabama cop said, “It’s slick as a whistle.” And the Philly station kept playing his comments over and over. They were having a hoot.

Southerners and snow give others something to joke about …
But it’s really no laughing matter down here!

Very educational. I love this! This is how I grew up.
When my maternal grandmother died she left my grandfather 3 years worth of canned, frozen and dehydrated food, much of it from their backyard garden.
Luckily my mother passed a lot of that on to me as a child and young teen. I still use much of this knowledge today, but this takes it to a WNL (whole new level) and reminds me of things I had long forgotten or was displaced by a multitude of severe head injuries over the years.
We used to have 8 gallons of fresh milk delivered to our doorstep every Monday morning in beautiful wide mouth glass jars. Cream on top to make our butter and other wonderful uses like fresh ice cream.
