The Santa Ynez reservoir was drained in October 2023 for maintenance. Its capacity is for 110 million gallons. The estimate was several months to repair a hole in the the cover of the reservoir. The reservoir was designed to recharge several lower elevation water holding reservoirs of 1 million gallons each. Water is held at higher elevation to create pressure in the system. Insurance companies operate in the regulatory environment created by politicians and bureaucrats. The insurance actuaries, I suspect knew, the Santa Ynez reservoir was drained. The risk was elevated, insurance companies weren’t allowed to increase rates to cover the potential loss, hence the dropped coverages.
This outcome was due to the negligent humans in government. This is criminal negligence plain and simple. .

An interesting point about the reservoir was that they couldn’t keep water in it with a tear in the lid because organisms would grow and the water wouldn’t be fit for consumption. Ok fine, so why not keep it full and not use it for tap water but as a back up for fire prevention?

California is DEI on steroids! Changing fire fighters for the sake of diversity is a fools errand! DEI has destroyed meritocracy in America. Replacing qualified white fire fighters for unqualified POC fire fighters is a danger to the community being served. It also works the other way replacing qualified POC fire fighters with unqualified white fire fighters! Most of the full time fire fighters I have seen over the years or have come in contact with were mostly sizable white males in very good shape, good enough to carry another fire fighter or victim out of a fire. Replacing an individual like that with someone of much smaller stature, weaker and perhaps overweight may satisfy DEI requirements but could get someone killed! We’re not all equal, we all have different God given talents! JMO

Every fire company I am aware of in Eastern PA is looking for volunteers, and funds for more equipment. There are plenty of opportunities for the willing.

I learned that the temperature was an astonishing 1.6* higher than ever before last year!
They said it with such earnestness. People really believe that 1.6* average higher (even if true, which I doubt) caused CA to burn? 1.6*?
The current “warming period” just so happened to start at the beginning of industrialization of the world, after the Little Ice Age. Thus, their ridiculous claims of humans causing the climate to change emerged.
There are some fascinating articles out there regarding the Little Ice Age. One such article correlated the cold temperatures and loss of crops to the Salem Witch trials. It seems a lot of people have been blaming people rather than weather patterns on devastation for centuries.
Logical people just accept the weather as it is and adapt. Leftists can’t seem to do that.

Yes, the wind has changed direction and now the palisades fire is headed towards Encino. The winds are very slow right now. But noon to 3pm they will pick up and then go down again. I can see the fire at the ridge from my house. I’ll post a pic later.

Texas House Speaker-Looks like a BIG battle is brewing over the Texas House Speaker. The Republicans (?)
control the Texas House and their caucus supports a guy named Cook. But there is a faction that supports a guy named Burrow(Establishment/Bushie).
I don’t claim to understand all I know about Texas politics, but there are many strong Bush supporters in their legislature which are more Establishment than MAGA. The current AG, Ken Paxton has demonstrated that he is very MAGA oriented and he is supporting Cook.
Apparently Burrow wants to work with Democrats to share committee chairmanships, not MAGA, but go along to get along (IMO)

I want to interject a political hot potato here. Do NOT give money to The Red Cross for wildfire assistance/relief in Californiak, or for any other reason. The Red Cross has been coopted by the Left. Let me explain.
I grew up in the Bronx during the late ’70s and early ’80s, and I’ve seen this image before. As a small child witnessed more fires like the one below than I can count.
Night after night, my dad’s heavy rescue truck responded to infernos like this. At the peak, he was fighting three massive fires every single night.
The biggest issue with the LA fires? Most people think they’re rare, freak events. They think lessons will be learned, that the system will fix itself.
They wrongly believe the U.S. hasn’t seen true war on its own soil since 1814.
Let me tell you something: Entire cities can burn to the ground.
I was there.
I’ve seen it.
It can go one for years with zero accountability
The response to each subsequent fire can get worse, much worse, as fire and police budgets are drained
Nearly 50% of the Bronx’s 27,000 acres—mostly dense, high-rise housing—burned to ash.
Tens of thousands more acres were lost in Harlem, Brooklyn, and Queens.
Nit to mention hundreds of thousands if you add in Cleveland, Baltimore, DC, Pittsburgh, and more.
Nobody remembers Devils Night in Detroit in 1984 when 810 acts of arson occurred on a single night or the MOVE bombing in Philadelphia that consumed 60 homes at once.

Meaning, they are formed and injected into your browser by a number of other servers. Some of these third parties are permitted (and get paid, or pay for access themselves) to serve these ads and popups from

Security software (even if you do not have a subscription…or use one for free…or app and extension)
VPN services (Yes, read the fine print. Some VPN’s, especially the free ones will introduce and inject ads and spamware into the stream for almost all website pages you view.)
Other – (a new breed of malware and spying collection methods include serving special crafted “ads”…they look like ads, but are in fact clickless tracking and spying software. Some phone and track your reading and browsing habits. This is a multi-billion dollar industry..and it has nothing to do with selling products, marketing, or advertising. It is allowed legally, because it “CAN BE USED” for those purposes.)
I am working with some well known developers to resolve a new development that Google has announced: they are going to remove some of the most effective AD KILLING extensions and apps from playstore. (I do not use apple stuff). If permitted, Google will make chrome a very unpleasant place. While I understand there are some other browsers other than Chrome it is very important to acknowledge that almost all of them do use the chromium fork as well as many of the Google services. Some have even decide to just give up trying to make a “de-googled” browser. DDG is a good example. Read what has happened to that Browser. None of it is good. So the effort is to make a product that Google will accept in the new terms, but one that will also provide the best ad free experience.
there are several ways to do this.
a. A paid version of Chrome that is ad free. This is already being done with YouTube premium. You pay for an ad free experience. this offsets the “loss” in revenue that Google would otherwise receive with ads. This same model is being used by a variety of streaming services also, so the technology to do it is trivial and it performs the financial incentives these tech companies do not want to lose. Stay tuned. This is probably going to be the “best most common” way to get an ad free experience from Chrome
b. developing extensions and apps and software that are more robust that allow only those ads that are “legit”….white list/black list capability..granular controls by the user. This is what Ublock Origin does. Ublock Origin is now facing removal from the playstore. It will have to change how the software works to get Google to agree it meets the new terms. A “lite” version is being developed right now to do that.
Chrome is not just a desktop application for browsing websites. Chrome is also a browser for mobile, embedded devices (like smart tv’s), and system on a chip “internet of things” devices…such as your remote, smart house devices, etc. Chromium powers almost all of these things ..or a fork of Chromium. And all of these devices do collect and map data. From the user perspective we do not see this unless we are viewing a website. But make no mistake, chromium, android and forks of chromium pervade the digital universe. You are the product. It has always been this way, but the scale of it has become unimaginably galactic in size. From the user perspective we simply want to go to a website and actually have a experience that is not flooded with popups that make the website literally unuseful and annoying.
While I am working with others to try and develop a negotiated set of conditions with Google directly to establish a more favorable website browsing experience, it remains to be seen if this will happen.
In the meantime, here is a suggestion you may want to consider. (note: this is not the only way to accomplish this. there are other ways to do it. I will try to explain the easiest method I know how following):
if you have administrative access to your modem/router, and it allows you change your DNS, then you can bypass almost all injected ads. even those from Google itself and your ISP! (which are the main characters who inject ads).
Adguard has a specialized DNS address.
Default servers
AdGuard DNS will block ads and trackers.I

2a10:50c0::ad1:ff
2a10:50c0::ad2:ff
the above is for routers …whether you use them cabled of wifi, setting your router/modem to these DNS settings will disallow almost all ads and popups that are injected into your browser and website. (some are not injected and are programmatically “hosted” by the website you are visiting, so this may not work to eliminate those kinds of ads…but that is more or less, a very small number)
the above means your “home experience” in browsing can be improved.
but what about mobile phones, while away from home?
same things, but this means you have to change the DNS settings on your android phone (again, I do not use apple products so I don’t know and am not describing what you should do for iphone mobiles)
in most cases both of these methods will not cause problems using VPN software/VPN extensions/VPN apps.
again, this is just one method to eliminate ads. it is not the only way to do it.
Adguard has a pretty good reputation, but like all security and ad related tech companies it is best to consider that it will be in compliance with the surveillance state. This means, do not do something thinking you are not being tracked. This method is simply provided to help you achieve an ad free pop-up free experience. It is by NO MEANS a method to obfuscate who you are, what you are doing online and what you read and look at. So be smart. Do not rely on this method to do “things”.
note: I do not recommend trying to “port” your android phone with any kinds of APK file. This is called rooting your android device. Only very knowledgable experience developers who are aware of and can mitigate security issues should root and port phones. I don’t do it mainly because even Adguard does not present a third party audit to the APK they provide and make the distinction clearly: use at your own risk. So the preferred method is to simply change your DNS at the router level for home wifi and home wired connections…and similarly, for mobiles, going into settings and changing the DNS there also.
it’s the easiest way to do it. The benefits of this are many…you are effectively stopping ads from entering your network at the house and you are not allowing ads from streaming through any kinds of network, cell or public or work wifi to your android phone when you go mobile.
