On a serious note, wild fires are a constant danger in Southern AZ – my worst nightmare really. We are always reevaluating our plan to save our fur kids. ❤️
What a great thing you did, Maquis. Where I live here near Porterville, CA wildfires in the mountains have become an almost annual event – lack of any wildfire mitigation measures from government where a great deal of the land is owned by various state and federal agencies.
The locals stepped in an created an entire evacuation process for animals. Private citizens with stock trailers, norse trailers, etc. head up into the mountains and load up all the stock they can find and haul them down to the Porterville Fair Grounds. The animals are tagged and recorded.
Other volunteers, vets, etc. feed them and check them out for health issues. It’s really quite impressive.
People can be awesome, and animals often draw out their best.

The human tragedy from these fires is incalculable, and I know Treepers are mourning and praying for all impacted. That said, the death and destruction of animals and their habitats, both wild and domestic, is also immeasurable. I have had such difficulty watching and hearing these stories. And such admiration for the heros who step up at great personal risk. Had to stop watching yesterday or run out of kleenex.
A video that I know many saw of a man and his chocolate lab in their home completely surrounded by fire was so disturbing. He was calmly assuring his dog that everything was alright in the midst of the maelstrom. I heard from a few news sources that they both had escaped. Thank the Lord for those who care for His creatures. 🙏
It’s just so horrific. While I always pray for all involved in such tragedies my most fervent prayers are for those who have no ability to save themselves, like domestic and wild critters, the most helpless amongst us.

Morning, Garrison. Benzy is right. How enjoyable to listen to the master of his instrument as we sit here in the early morning hours waiting for the arrival for snow and sleet. Or maybe not. The warnings are out. I’ll feed the birds in a bit and our three boarding moggies, all three who have discovered the shelters I’ve set up in our garage. One of them deigned to be picked up and brought into the house where he had a little mooch around and finally settled in a back bedroom for a bitt before heading back outside. He luxuriates in the petting and fuss I have bestowed upon him, stretching and pushing his head into my hand. His sweet tuxedoed friend is not yet keen…but I am working on it 💕

Below freezing here for a few days – I just added wood to the fire and most of the crew are snuggled in with me. I do worry about the ferals who reside in the garage, but most run from us as we replenish their food. We’ve managed to incorporate a few into our fold, but, some will never trust. 😔

The one who at one time I’m sure was hit by a car but who as recovered, although with a pronounced limp, has taken refuge under the couch in the garage. Normally I’d get it hauled away, but for the fact that it gives better shelter in the cold such as are having. Once our long time resident feral, who came to trust us and would come meow outside the now sealed cat flap in said garage (raccoons frequently find their way here so couldn’t risk their coming in) and let me brush him, just upped and left early last year (💔) Chris was all in on ridding ourselves of it…but I simply could not…just in case. So glad we didn’t.
The other two (I really should name them) weren’t in today, so I am hoping that they really are somebody’s. Switching off the worry machine whirling around in my head assuming my prayers for them have been answered 🙏🏻💕
Your fire reminds me of our constant coal ones in our tiny morning room in Wales. We had an overnight burner in it so as we were going to bed, we’d shut it down, then come down in the morning to glowing coals which gave off the best heat. Come Christmas in our other two fireplaces, one in the living room where our Christmas tree was and one in the dining room, we’d lay coals and then firewood on top, just for the day. A Victorian scene for our Victorian home….sigh….

We had a coal stove in my very old New England (drafty!) home. The Best heat. Hard to describe, but somehow “soft” comes to mind.
That’s the thing isn’t it, Corny. In speaking of how warm and cosy the coal fires were, I neglected to remember how much we needed it because of the leaky windows in our 1869 house. I came to adore radiators as well. Our tiny morning room in the winter accommodated many…the two of us, Penny, and never under 5 cats. There was a spot for each. Only one sash cord window….we were happy 😌💕
Oh, those radiators! Maybe not the most beautiful accoutrement in the house – but I often declared seniority when my kiddos were sitting on it! But, of course, you first needed to clear the mittens, hats, socks, and scarves that had been drying there!
Chris designed and constructed covers for ours with a lattice front…like furniture really and they didn’t block the heat!!
You’d find these types of coverings in all sorts of more upmarket residences. I had up market tastes but not the pocketbook into go with, so I asked my “man” to make some. Which he did 😍!!
And like you I’ve dried many a piece of clothing on them 👍🏻

Afternoon dear Bet. Some years back, I used to go to Houston when Pepe’ gave a master class. I didn’t feel I was good enough to perform so I just went as a spectator (this was where he allowed me to “tune” (actually play) his new La Wonderful Rodriguez guitar . . . Those master classes were fascinating because Pepe’ is not only a great virtuoso, he is also a wonderful teacher. I really learned a lot from just watching him interact with his students.
I’ll predict that you are soon going to lead your feral kitties into the C-A-T universe. They just need some kind exposure to a loving touch. Little ‘Tink has usurped my customary place at the kitchen table. I have a flexible lamp for illumination that I positioned directly over a spot on the table . . .
Tink is no dummy and immediately got the hint. I just went to the kitchen and there she was, luxuriating under the lamp’s warmth. She ain’t movin’ either. 🙂 Good kitty!
We can share the space, fortunately. I have some tasty chili and homemade tamales that are going to make a great afternoon snack. ‘Tink will of course get a small chili sample. Yes, I spoil my kitty!

Just went into the garage to find Tuxedo has found our last sweet feral’s small bed which I had placed on Chris’s huge saw table. It’s not the warmest bed and is small, but it looks as if he fits snuggly which is bound to keep him warm, like a coat. Haven’t seen his travelling buddy which is worrying as it is wet and freezing.
I did some chili the other night. The cold just called for it. Yours sounds delish!!

We are on track for the coldest January of the century so far for the lower 48. Every time I look at the models showing weeks 1,2,3 they show more cold than the run before. Something ocurred to me as I watch the live cast of Pres Carter’s funeral.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
