Elon Musk and his Twitter (X platform) engineers have an Artificial Intelligence (AI) user engagement and information system known as Grok. Essentially, you can ask AI Grok questions, and it provides responses based on the coded values of the engineers who built it.
Recently people have noticed a change on the Twitter (X) platform as Elon Musk announced the algorithm was being modified by his team. So, people started to engage with Grok and ask questions about their user account, the status changes evident from the algorithmic modifications, and the AI learning that is coded by Musk’s engineers. Essentially, asking the Grok AI: “How do you perceive me (through my content)?”
The responses from the xAI Grok system are starting to alarm everyone.

When asked how to avoid the Twitter platform diminishing their user voice, a typical response from Grok:
“Don’t criticize your government, don’t criticize foreign governments, don’t talk about conspiracy theories, stop telling people to fuck off in the comments, and don’t accuse government officials or members of the media of malfeasance or dishonesty.”
These are the parameters built by Elon Musk and his Twitter engineers.
This is what controls the ‘reach of speech’ on the platform. Now, it would be simply funny but there are serious layers that must be discussed here.
First, this is how Elon Musk, the demigod free speech advocate, is structuring the algorithm within his Twitter (X) platform. These are his coded values as displayed by the engineers he has hired. Musks engineers transcribe his goals into code and implant it within the algorithm that controls the site content and restricts or enlarges the influence of the users.

“Troll” is a loaded, largely empty term that has become weaponized language to shout down people and ideas. I can’t think of one social media platform where some version of this personal attack has not been employed by both individuals (methodological individualism) or the “collective subconscious”. Whatever that psychobabble really equates to is a mystery – but there sure is evidence of it in our everyday interactions.
One does have to pause at times and speculate: can there be a “non-coded values world” without “trolls”?
All of this, of course, reaches back to “the truth”. A little humility in that regard may serve everyone well. Note that I am not framing that thought in any spiritual context. Nor does the idea in play inevitably lead to relativism. It does, in my mind at least, suggest the standard for “truth” has in our day and age itself been hugely politicized. Others can engage in the battles vis moral truths.
What is absent in all of this discussion is detailed understanding of what AI actually is, what the ecosystem requires, the system’s dynamics. It is immensely complex – which inevitably, as a law of nature IMO, implies all sorts of vulnerabilities. The math alone behind AI is exceedingly complex. Not my field of expertise, but even a surface review suggests that the math itself is too complex to understand – take a 50 layered neural network with hundreds of nodes in each layer, add in all the constants, activation functions, math/probability bias constants, edge weights that are constantly adjusted and I’m willing to bet based on simple intuition that there are very few people in the world who understand it – or if it even can be captured in some comprehensive mathematical construct.
In the bigger picture, this is not a new problem (coded values). It’s just functioning at a much larger scale. Sundance and others are essentially saying AI and allied technologies are being used to generate politically weighted profiles that circle back into selective control of AI outputs (e.g., descriptive statistics, predictive analytics). Operationally, the idea is that the data set is manipulated, that ideas are never really tested in the public commons; ultimately, that freedom cannot exist in a context in which societal, political and moral ideas cannot be debated openly.
Sooooooo, how is this systemic danger to be addressed? Without becoming part of the problem?

I don’t think Sundance, if I follow him correctly, is wrong in that guardrails (at the least) need to be set. That’s a political decision if the solution arrives with prohibitions and enforcement powers. I recognize the concern/risk. The part that makes me nervous, always, is gov’t applying and enforcing solutions. A healthy, functioning societal/political process would arrive at a least damaging solution – one imagines. But we don’t live in such a moment.
As an aside, the biggest take-away I have acquired from CTH is “Live your best life”. Just a reminder for everyone as it seems the daily heat from political class maneuvering seems to be amp’ing up the reaction each passing day. I have to pinch myself now and then not to get too absorbed and respond too angrily. Not 100% successful – LYBL is a great way to view the verbal component of much of our current politics!

I agree with all of this except that Trump is a politician. He’s not a politician by historic experience, except to the extent that being a real estate developer primarily in the NE is equivalent. And it undoubtedly is in many regards, but not entirely. And he’s not fully become a politician by virtue of his experience since 2016, also in my opinion. His involvement in politics has been far to contentious and non-traditional to have transformed him in exactly that way.

The thing is, social media is basically a waste of time.
I have so many other ways that I enjoy spending my time and they’re much more productive and valuable to the world at large. (IMO)
The mentality these people have seems to be that those who don’t involve themselves in the economic model they’ve created are somehow bad. They believe this to such an extent that they’ll lobby congress, steal elections, and eliminate any avenues for survival and/or cultural activity other than the ones they’ve established. We can ONLY participate in things that they benefit from, and ONLY do so in the way they prefer.
I’m not the least bit threatening to society as a whole or the people in it. I’m a “live and let live” type of guy and I focus my energies on doing the best I can in whatever I do.
And I’m somehow bad because of that.
Isn’t that just an admission that they’re the bad guys? Obviously yes, but they completely miss their own malevolence because their position awards them with status, financial rewards, and an ego boost. They shape society after all. The Movers and Shakers of the World. Heroes to us all! How would we ever survive without them? (Beautifully, I’d argue.)
Power does not equate respect. Just because such people have claimed and/or created themselves a position of authority and influence it doesn’t mean they deserve respect or accommodation.
Those words would mark me an enemy but I’m really no enemy of anyone unless they attack me. In other words, they don’t have to push it, but they always seem to do so. Even so, I’m not much of a fighter because, like social media, it’s a waste of time. Can’t fight such behaviors with rationality and communication if your words are deemed illegal.
I find the attitude of these types of people quite odd because, if I had such a position and so many resources at my disposal, I’d do the best I could to improve things for everyone and use those resources wisely.

As ordinary Americans continue to take on water in the oncoming financial crises, it’s important to remember that we are in direct competition for resources – energy – with the tech lords and their insatiable megalomaniacal plans. And transferring energy from people to things is “green.”

Alexa and other home aid tools or services are the beta testing grounds for the HUMAN developed AI Systems being developed based on the HUMAN values of the owners and engineers (i.e. The Tech Barons). Your sniveling, calling commenters trolls and account cancelling ways MISS this point. That beta tested AI is then transitioned into the tools being USED TODAY to control the populations of entire NATIONS (hint: its just not being used in China Inc. or Russia). It goes way beyond X, tiktok, bing, google, ali baba, et al.

The next 4-years just got a whole more interesting as President Trump engaged with these devils in order to secure his victory vs the BIG Cheat that was in progress. However, he was not able to secure enough down ballot victories to have what was needed to do a real cleansing of the US Government System. It now remains to be seen how much President Trump can claw back in 2026 and during his “internal??” battles vs his tech benefactors to hold off their BIG PICTURE Plans, as the Big tech Barons attempt to collect on their support in 2024.
Don’t delude yourselves into thinking the too big to cheat efforts would have succeeded in electing President Trump without the support of the Big tech Barons…the down ballot results and cheating are physical proof of the fact. He had access to the cheating tools for his 4-years in the oval office…he knew what he was up against before making these deals with the devil.
As a MAGA person and supporter, I sometimes feel like I am a stranger in a strange land.
Personally, I have felt the same anxiety … Keep in mind there are now two sides to MAGA within each of us.
There is MAGA the concept, the vision and hope we all have deep in our very being and hearts.
Then there is the reality of the leadership trying to bring MAGA to fruition. The hard part to accept is that the two will often have a chasm of difference between them as the leaders try to their best ability to achieve the MAGA the vision. The path the leaders follow in reality will be loaded with victories, defeats and compromises we may or may not like.
At least this is how I reconcile between the two…and tailor my efforts to support those trying to bring MAGA to fruition.
It does not mean one has to accept all that is being played out in reality, nor stop trying to push the leadership to do better … but does help to understand the environment as a whole.
President Trump and any MAGA supporters within his immediate leadership circle are working to the limits of the environment … to both govern and hopefully leave a platform for future progress. It may not be called MAGA in the future … just as the terms: Contract with America and the Tea Party Movement morphed into MAGA … MAGA may morph by 2028.

Very scary. Of course if you let in a noxious virus it will mutate and seek to take over, and if you bring a cute little animal in into your home it will grow into a dangerous and violent predator. In High School I was one of those who were a the Basic classes. Not because I was Stupid(1), but because I was unmotivated to do the classwork. I had been working part-time in the real world since before I was of legal age to work.
I knew from firsthand experience that I was Not using any of that stuff taught in school in the real world.
It was not until I had been out of school for about 10 years or so that I learned the Real Reason to go to school and actually do the classwork. Ever since I learned the deep dark esoteric knowledge of why children need to apply themselves in school I have freely shared that esoteric knowledge with any school-age person.

I said all of that so that you could better understand the significance of what I have been doing since I was forced into early retirement back in 2017. I am somewhat of a slow reader, not Stupid, just a little bit slow. Plus, I spend my days working on various projects and our property.
Because my mind is constantly working I need something to occupy my mind. A few years ago I discovered Podcasts and greatly expanded my knowledge. Then I discovered Audiobooks and have listened to numerous Non-Fiction books.
During the summer I discovered that I was about to lose several free audiobooks. One of them was the book; 1984. Now remember, I was not like you in school. Basic English does not cover books like that.
So, 1984 is somewhat fresh on my mind. To read an article like this and realize that the American people are taking the bait, Hook, Line, and Sinker is absolutely astounding to me.
Is 1984 no longer required reading in school these days? I know that the Trivium and Quadrivium stopped being taught when Nelson Rockefeller and his ilk took over schooling and medicine.
It would do America a world of good if more people were to read 1984 and try to learn something instead of flapping their jaws on social media.
(1) Look up the meaning of Stupid versus Ignorant in the dictionary. Stupid does not want to learn and is basically proud of not knowing. Ignorant simply does not know, but is open to learning.
(2) Esoteric simply means hidden or secret. It does not mean magic, but has been misused for that meaning.

Several years ago a psychological type aptitude type test revealed that I have absolutely No patience whatsoever with stupid people.
