Part time and seasonal jobs that kids (17-20) used to do to earn cash and experience became FULL TIME JOBS for the immigrants, who often hold multiple jobs in these categories. They were cheaper and the employer found it easier to NOT have to rehire and worry reliability of US Kids showing up or demanding more money… also to be honest … at times the work ethic among the demographic does leave something to be desired.
It was also easy to see the trend 2000 and forward via observations of the local lawn care workers … in 2000 there was a transitions from local kids seeking to cut lawns during the summer vs immigrant run and manned lawn care businesses.
Of course observing road work and repair crews during the same period hired by our local municipalities and businesses was another barometer.
All one has to do is look at the unemployment and employment numbers from 2009-2016 to see the trend. Replacement of US workers is more pervasive than the professional positions.
