Had a friend stop by a couple weeks ago. It was nice, but then it got later and later and she didn’t want to leave.
She didn’t want to go home. She wanted to make her husband have to call and find her, after they’d gotten into a tiff about how they talk to one another.
She is never quiet. She talks all the time.

I told her to go home and not talk. I told her to go home, kiss her husband, sit down next to him and watch whatever he was watching and not talk. Not complain, just keep her yap shut.
She asked how that was ever going to fix anything. I asked her if she always wanted to talk to fix things. She said yes. I asked her how that’s working for her and she said it wasn’t.
I told her to go home and do what I said. Be quiet, sit next to her husband, watch what he’s watching without saying a word, and be quiet.

In the 1980s Cole’s musical style became more contemporary and her hits include the dance-pop cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac”.
Cole later returned to form and huge success with her 1991 album “Unforgettable…with Love”, covering her father’s standards. The album won 3 Grammys including Album of the Year.
Cole’s personal life was marked by drug addiction, for which she eventually sort treatment and chronicled in her autobiography and a TV movie “Livin’ for Love: The Natalie Cole Story”. Cole’s drug use led eventually to ill health, she suffered from Hepatitis C and had a kidney transplant before dying of heart failure at 65.

The smaller woodpecker is the way more common Downy Woodpecker, which I have a resident pair hitting my suet & Bark Butter feeders and nests in the area as I’ve seen the fledglings the past years. The larger woodpecker which is virtually identical, except for its larger size is a Hairy Woodpecker. There has sadly been a serious decline of Hairy’s, which is at least partially attributed to the range expansion of the Red-Bellied Woodpecker out competing the more passive Hairy’s. I haven’t seen a Hairy in these parts in a long time and was looking through ebird location records up north and local and there were sadly hardly any sightings.

This morning at my central Indiana home I had a male Hairy on one seed block and a male Downy on the other at the same time. Then a Redbreasted female came down and both took off. But they’ll be back. I have at least two pairs of each species hanging around this winter I think.
That is great news rah. I have seen a decline where I used to live up north and now down south. I’ve looked through Christmas counts and ebird sighting, definite decline, sadly. Keep an eye out for us. Good birding friend

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

We get our Spanish sausage (chorizo picante ) from Seabrite in Newark, NJ, where they make it using Spanish recipes and old traditional processes…. My wife’s Spanish immigrant grandparents operated a Spanish restaurant on South Broadway in Fells Point, Baltimore City for decades – bought all their chorizos from Corte in Hoboken NJ (which became Seabrite in Newark). But Seabrite’s retail store vacuum-packs the links for sale…. not quite as “old style” as this Italian shop….

I have a New Years Eve story …
Our bedroom in the house we had in Colorado Springs – 1988 ? – had a view of Pikes Peak. mountain. Each New Years a group of intrepid climbers hike up the mountain – regardless of weather. At midnight they send off fireworks.
Doc and I got an ice bucket for a bottle of bubbly and set the alarm for 11:45. At midnight we toasted the New Year
