(1793-1836)
Founded and helped colonize the US state of Texas, dies of pneumonia at 43
Biography: Stephen F. Austin was an American settler known as the ‘Father of Texas’ for his role in founding the state. Austin brought several hundred families with their slaves to the Tejas region in 1825 after inheriting an empresario grant from Spain, which gave him the right to settle there.
Austin convinced a number of American settlers to move with him, totalling 300 families in the first migration. This group established a settlement in the territory, and initially maintained friendly relations with the Mexican government.
When dissatisfaction with the Mexican government boiled over and resulted in the Texas Revolution, Austin led the Texas forces in the early Siege of Béxar. While a series of setbacks followed this, the Texans would ultimately win their independence after the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836.
Subsequently Austin went on to serve as a commissioner to the United States, then after an unsuccessful campaign for President of Texas was appointed Secretary of State for the republic by the victorious Sam Houston.

Biography: Alexandre Gustave Eiffel was a French civil engineer known for the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty’s internal structure. Graduating from École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures, his work on French railways and bridges like the Garabit Viaduct established his reputation. Post-retirement, Eiffel researched meteorology and aerodynamics, contributing significantly to both fields.
Eiffel was the first child of Catherine-Mélanie and Alexandre Bonickhausen dit Eiffel. His family had German origins and adopted the name Eiffel after relocating to Paris. His mother managed a charcoal business, later evolving into coal distribution, which Eiffel’s father joined.
As a child, Eiffel lived with his grandmother but maintained a close relationship with his mother. Though initially not scholarly, he began to take education seriously in his later school years, influenced by literature and history teachers.

Biography: Recognized today as the first US born female composer to have her work performed by a major orchestra, Amy Beach (then Cheney) was a child prodigy at the piano. Performing public recitals since the age of 8, she made her Boston debut at 16, and two years later performed with the Boston Symphony.
At about the same time, she married Dr. Henry Beach, and at his behest curtailed performing, except for an annual charity concert. Mrs. Beach instead concentrated on composing and met with acclaim for her 1892 Mass in E-flat played by Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society, and her “Gaelic” Symphony, premiered by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1896.
After her husband’s death, she toured Europe and received enthusiastic response both as pianist and composer, becoming one of the first US trained classical musicians to do so.

Way too high. Looking up from the ground was bad enough for me.
I actually went up the Space Needle in Seattle many years ago ( reluctantly). I was driving a couple of relatives, tourists from England, around B.C. and the Western States. They were impressed by the Space needle and wanted to go up it ( much to my dismay.)
I felt I should go up with them. I was terrified, I hate heights. I was trying desperately to look nonchalant as we went up in the elevator. They found the whole experience very enjoyable. They spent quite a bit of time looking at the views, I was trying to stay close to the elevator door, I could not go near the outer part .
They wandered happily about and actually went outside ! on some observation area. I was practically sitting on the floor in the middle of the structure whimpering with terror, muttering to myself why did I come up this thing I must be mad. .
I could not even look where they were going. I would not have gone outside for a million dollars. When they came back in, and as we were going down the elevator, they expressed their delight about the experience, I felt a lot better and silently felt admiration for their bravery.
Seattle is earthquake country, too. It rocked ( literally) n the 2001 quake.

Would/Could I live up there, depends upon how much it sways, all the high rises sway some, lots of people do it.
Eiffel tower 984 ft vs 630 ft for St Louis arch, yea I could probably live up there, the Arch is not noticeable sway (to me anyway) & I have no problem sleeping in a moving car or train, never slept on a bus… never rode further than MI to IND, too many stops for me, 4 hr car drive to an 8 hour or more adventure, never again unless I must.
MMW there is no proper bedroom in Eiffel’s penthouse apt., so on top of the tourist observation window eliminating privacy, lack of an actual bed might be a dealbreaker for me; one would have to fashion a sleeping cot on the floor, on top of the lab table, or maybe on the sofa… not ideal sounding.
I’ve lined up chairs to fashion something to sleep on in a hospital with a relative, which is the thing I want never to do again – as you said – unless I must.
Though I would like to spend a whole day up there – then decide if more time is wanted – I’d probably be too excited by the experience to feel like sleeping.
Those creepy wax figures would have to be stowed somewhere else – I want the place to myself.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles.
