I have not had Pringles for many, many years – they did not seem to me like real potato chips but more like pressed together ingredients in the shape of a potato chip – so dense and heavy – not light, like Lay’s – I hope Lay’s are not like this too!

WNC, Asheville area. For Christmas, my household adopted five kids in one family. Yesterday, I received a video of the gifts being delivered.
The house was on a corner lot in town. There was a stoplight at the intersection. Quite a bit of traffic. There was a lot of trash at the curb and the delivery person said that trash was everywhere along the sidewalks. He said that FEMA was supposed to pick it up. The recipient family was in the process of moving, yet again. Initially after Helene, they were in a camper. I’m not clear on how it happened, but they were unable to remain in the camper. Someone paid the rent for them to be in this house, but there is no usable municipal water. They are flushing toilets with water collected in a kiddie pool in the yard (which has a downed tree across it). Conditions are bad, so they are moving once again. I don’t have details. Only the video.
This family is NOT in the mountains in an inaccessible area. This family is in TOWN in a fairly busy traffic area. This is shocking to me that our own citizens are living like this in a somewhat urban area.
January 20th cannot come soon enough! I pray that immediate help will be sent to Helene victims, that relief will be swift and will bypass the layers of bureaucracy.

Every day since “Trump won a third time,” I’ve been reading articles about how “the Democratic Party has lost its way.”
I disagree.
For many decades now, there has been only one “party” in our Government. It’s a single coin with two sides – one painted red, the other blue – but ultimately only one coin. The two colors offer token resistance to each other from time to time, but the fundamental problem remains:
They are all too old, too entrenched, and too rich by means of corruption. If a young, enthusiastic man or woman ever entered the halls of Congress, that was a very long time ago.
Furthermore: there is no “single person” that can swoop in and “save everything.” No, not even Donald Trump. If this nation is to be saved, it must save itself. It must be aware of the corruption, and completely intolerant of it. It must be “peaceful, but extremely vocal” at all times. And, it should regularly replace elected officials even when they have done a satisfactory job. The geriatrics, most especially, must be granted an honorable retirement – but retired, nonetheless. The people of this country must no longer be complacent, allowing “someone else, far away,” either in Washington DC or in their own state or town, to make decisions on their behalf “un-watched.”
If this nation is to be saved, it must save itself. The lessons of our present day are painful, but they must be learned and never forgot.

I am starting out with a question for all of you who spent yesterday evening or any time of day, with your friends and family who are not of the same political persuasion as we are.
The reason I ask is this- our country has just gone through several years of hell thanks in no small part to the DemonRats and assorted never Trumpers and Communists. I don’t know about you, but most of my close relatives are included in those categories so as you can imagine, it makes social events, even Christmas Eve, rather difficult.
My question is- how did it go for you if you spent yesterday or any time at such family gatherings? I am honestly curious because of my own Christmas Eve which I found to be quite constrained for a dinner party.
Although not stated, it was clear that any talk of politics was not going to be entertained, so we sat there for hours eating, drinking and steadfastly NOT talking about the most important issues of the day and the century.
I did overhear some of my lib-Dem family members’ quiet conversations amongst themselves and I was appalled. It’s a good thing that they did not try to engage me (they all know I’m 100% MAGA Trump) because I don’t know that I would have been able to control myself. I simply cannot believe that otherwise intelligent and successful people can be so misinformed and harbor such hatred towards one of the greatest Presidents in history.
The worst thing I overheard, and the most tragic, was to hear my sister in law refer to her beautiful 16 year old GRAND DAUGHTER as “him” and describe how difficult it will be for her to transition because they live in Florida. She was telling this to my very sympathetic daughter if you can believe that! I am very much tempted to call up my SIL today and explain to her exactly what that means in terms of the surgeries that will be performed, the drugs that will be given, etc. to this poor mixed up little girl.
In any event- I would love to know if anyone else has had similar experiences during the holidays and how you handled them. I would never do anything to ruin the party over politics. (Lord knows I did enough of that in years past). But it is very hard for me, impossible really, to just forgive and forget.

Our family spent time together over Thanksgiving. It was the first time in many years that so many families got together! It was WONDERFUL! My husband and I called it the “Cherry on Top” of our 50th Wedding Anniversary. We did not talk politics for the sake of our family and our very young grandchildren.

Our family is scattered about, and we live far away from the original home region, so my tribe consists of my wife, our son, his wife and her family and our granddaughters who live a bit further away mostly with their Mom (1st marriage, certified narcissistic personality disorder, ugh). Second marriage family is just a good bunch of folks who welcome us as part of their family. No politics gets chatted about, at least directly.
Sadly, this age is all about each person’s PERSONAL TRUTH verses any willingness to hear wise guidance. Tribes of yesteryear observed reverence for elders, for their wisdom, and didn’t rebel easily. Of course such wisdom can also contain bias and error, but in good tribes it forced extensive examination of alternative ideas verses sudden leaps from “feelings” or popular trends.
Prayers for you and your family. There are and will be victims of this evil madness. The children are the saddest loss…so innocent and full of potential. Those being led toward these horrible choices due to their insecurities or desire to fit in or mental illness…it can be too late to save them from a tragic mistake. Why are adults motivated to do this? I read an article somewhere, that showed these adults wanted to “stand out” as models of progressivism and be “noticed” or “get attention on themselves” by pushing their kid into trans mania. Sick.

I have come to learn that once I encounter someone who cannot accept my view on the world because of my experience and education that I must cut them out completely, you can NOT change their minds and should not waste the energy trying.

My 60 yo kid brother in the southeast is a virulent Dem slave. This kid earms $150k annually as a Mitutoyo salesman and grew up with me in 1960’s New England. We had bb guns, pellet guns, 22’s, .410’s, 1911’s, all manner of WWII surplus rifles … and spent all our free time roaming and camping the 40 acres behind our small ranch home.
I first learned of his sickness (Democracia) when I overheard him tell someone on the phone, “CNN is always on at the house and NPR always on in my truck”. I almost died right there. ON questioning him, he found no inconsistencies in anything NPR or CNN had said. When trying to discuss political issues with him, he literally has no intelligent, fact based response; but instead literally repeats sound bites from CNN and NPR that all disparage Trump.
This kid quit his freshman year of high school, ran away, lived in a cardboard box for a few months, worked Burger King, then swept the floor in a local machine shop. While there he learned EDM machining, then programming. Years later he became the #1 EDM salesman for a huge OEM maker of EDM (I don’t recall name), and started raking in decent money; which is now about $150k.
I once asked him how a guy who’d lived on the streets in a cardboard box, who was sent to reform school for selling weed in high school, a guy who regularly polished off half pint of JD every night … and who’s seen the roughness of life without an education … could be so stupid as to blindly believe the provable lies of the Democrat communists.
His reply? they’re not lies, it’s the truth and you won’t get it from Fox.
I have disowned him, permanently and forever. If I were covered in maggots in the gutter and dying, I’d not accept help from him. If I needed a transplant and he were the only donor on earth, I’d die before taking anything from him. I have a very good, and yes, liberal friend whose daughter transitioned to a boy. In fact, we are going to meet tomorrow for a walk or bike ride.
It is not worth picking a fight on this topic: I have found that a couple of my closest and most loyal friends are liberal.
I simply look at the situation with his daughter (or ‘son’) being a live and let live kind of situation.
He and I have common ground in many other ways.
Here comes Carmageddon. New cars are overpriced and not selling, as are new trucks. People can’t afford $75k to $125k for a new pickup. It looks like there is a flood of repossessions, and the Repo lots are overflowing with cars and trucks that cannot be auctioned, because the banks have more money in them than they are worth.
We saw this with houses in 2008. It looks to me like 2025 will feature the insolvency of lenders in the auto market, and the collapse of car dealerships loaded with unmoving inventory, as the buyers have retreated. In my neighborhood, I am seeing vehicles abandoned, when people can’t afford the skyrocketing cost of repairs of these newer cars and trucks.
Not to mention that insurance has gone through the roof!

Slanta Cause: I’m in CA and one of those illegal aliens, driving without insurance, caused me $6,500 of rear-end damage on a brand-new Saab, some years ago. My insurance covered the repair cost, which means that I paid for the repairs, along with other insured California drivers. The accident was a rear-end “hit and run,” which also involved the other driver trying to drive off with me nearly straddled over the hood of his car. Fortunately, I did not persist and got out of the way.
Seneca: Just try to chip away at the “non-essential” features of your auto insurance coverage and your insurance agent (if you have one) will manage to sell you on all the reasons you really, really need to pay $1.84 extra to cover an extra 100 miles of towing coverage. My insurance agent is useless when it comes to saving money.

Because businesses that cannot pass on increased costs to consumers are forced to go out of business. Consumers on fixed incomes cannot afford increased cost of essentials, and they suffer. Inflation always leads to higher unemployment and general misery.
Today’s vehicles are overpriced mostly because they are too complex, full of electronics and computer chips. They are exceedingly complicated and repairs cost a fortune. Some are so complex, few mechanics can even repair them properly.
I recently restored a 1969 VW Beetle. Air-cooled engine. No radiator to leak or overheat. Four-speed manual transmission. Simple carburetion. Spark plugs, points, rotor and condenser. The side windows crank up and down by hand. No power steering or power brakes. Air conditioning is delivered through wing windows turned out for outside air to flow inside.
The engine is cooled partly by a shrouded fan with its shaft also connected to the generator. The running engine turns the cooling fan and generator by a simple fan belt.
This car body is made mostly of shaped, 18-gauge steel. The car is quite strong. It has chromed steel bumpers. I’d express similar sentiments. I don’t like that the opinions and desires of the mega-rich are so deeply ingrained in government. There is no reason for me or any other person to give Elon my total trust. Will he swear an oath? Will he he divest himself from his businesses (the potential for conflict of interest is extreme) or put his wealth in a trust? If not, why not?
Until he does those things or similar, yeah “back off dude”
