On Christmas Eve we will follow our tradition of watching from across the pond the most wonderful Carol Service from King’s College Cambridge. Carols and readings from Luke usher in the most joyous event the world has ever known.
These voices are part of this sublime service which in some misguided decision last year was not broadcast. We knew why…abject, disgraceful knee bending from the BBC to Britain’s new masters. Thankfully voices raised in protest have changed minds and (I hope) hearts.

Hey Bets. I know I have posted this before, but, this is Cornwall Bridge in Cornwall CT. It was founded by folks who split off from my ancestors in Milford, CT (founded in 1639 by my great grandfather × many times).
The families knew when they parted that they would most likely not see one another again, even though it was probably only 70 or 80 miles away!

Thomas Wolfe wrote that we can’t go home again, reed. In the main he was right. But there is that small door afforded to us through music which allows us to do so. Open it and the memories come flooding back which are precious and enduring. Which is why as I get older and the world moves further away from the “home” I remember, I find myself opening that door more often. I am so grateful that my fellow branch dwellers have the keys which unlock it and leave those warm memories for us every day 😌😘

Merry Christmas, reed. Grew up in San Diego, beach summers when I had bus fare. I became a military wife and wound up in Monterey for 25 years, lots of beach but too darned cold and foggy to enjoy. Exchanged it all for Arizona desert heat and sand but no beach. Now I’m in Mississippi freezing my hiny, and not having to travel anywhere to experience snow. Lol, living the best life here in hillbilly heaven. Cheers!

Israel sizes the opportunity to create buffer zones
Israel has new Middle East bargaining chip in Golan Heights
Following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Damascus, Israel’s military advances into Syria have raised alarm.
Initially, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had stated that the advances were a temporary measure to ensure Israel’s security at the border with Syria, where militias that were not identified as aligned with the new Damascus government, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS, kept jostling for power.
However, this week, when Netanyahu visited the highest point of the newly-seized region, Mount Hermon, overlooking Damascus, Beirut and Jerusalem, he said that “we will stay…until another arrangement is found that ensures Israel’s security.”
Only, a new Syrian government is not scheduled to be in place before at least March 2025.
Concerns over Israel’s seizure of Syrian territory grew this week after Netanyahu announced that Israel will be investing in infrastructure in the Golan Heights, located in the southwest of Syria.
Israel’s aim is to double the current population of about 50,000 people living in the mountainous Golan Heights, which Israel occupied after the Six-Day War in 1967. Around half of them are Jewish Israelis, the other half are of the Druze minority and mostly consider themselves Syrian, albeit with Israeli residency.

* The Golan Heights was won in a defensive war and now belongs to Israel. It is not ‘occupied’. Same as with all other parts of Israel.
* There are many Israeli Druze. From what I have seen, it looks like they consider themselves to be Israeli not Syrian. They are part of the society and even serve in the Israeli Defence Force. Perhaps David can give further details.
* Recently, 6 Druze villages in Syria said they wish to be annexed by Israel. This adds to my previous point.
– Not sure about what will come of Mount Herman, so I will not comment.
US animal lab from which monkeys escaped accused of widespread abuse
AGI in South Carolina investigated by government after leaked files revealed traumatic injuries and animal deaths
The US Department of Agriculture is investigating allegations from an animal rights organisation concerning Alpha Genesis Incorporated (AGI), the animal experimentation facility and breeder, from which 43 monkeys escaped last month.
AGI is accused of “abuse and neglect”, and of violations of the Animal Welfare Act, as leaked documents show that between 2021 and 2023, multiple primates held at AGI centres endured preventable traumatic injuries and deaths.
The emails, veterinary reports and photos were passed to Peta by a veterinary whistleblower who alleges neglect, incompetence and a culture of disregard for animal welfare at AGI’s Yemassee and Hampton primate centres in South Carolina.
Records reveal at least 82 monkeys were injured or died from trauma due to unsafe equipment, inadequate care and untreated health conditions.

Great farrier, Nim. We love ours too. I think he is a burro whisperer! Had to get special boots, called Softrides, for one of our burros when he had laminitis: not nearly as intricate and customized as this lucky horse got, but did the trick.
Gets kind of addictive, doesn’t it? Wait till you get to floating their teeth! Then at some point you wonder how do the horses in the wild live without farriers and teeth floaters. They have thier own natural remedies they employ.
They are on the move so much that farriers aren’t much needed – they keep their hooves ground down naturally. They will pick up and chew little rocks to ‘float’ their own teeth as needed. Nature (God) is amazing.

We had our old mule’s teeth floated a few times. She was losing weight because she couldn’t assimilate her food. They semi-anesthetized her and we held her very large, very heavy head!

I was referring to the kind of/quality of thrill when a real artist drops a new release… that doesn’t ever happen again when they’ve gone.
I remember a documentary in which TP talked about Linda Ronstadt wanting to sing with him & his band… he likes/respects/admires her *a lot* and had to tell her “but there’s no girls in the Heartbreakers”. Knowing & holding his boundaries for work was a theme that ran through that documentary… wish I could remember the title of that one, it would fit right in here.

Danish-American comedian and pianist, dies at 91
Biography: Also known as ‘The Clown Prince of Denmark,’ Borge came to fame for his unique blend of music and comedy. Both of his parents were musicians, and Borge continued in this line, learning piano and performing as a classical pianist.
After a few years of this, he began to incorporate his now familiar stand-up routine into his piano performances.
When Denmark was occupied by German forces in 1940, Borge was in Sweden and managed to escape to Finland, from where he traveled on to the United States. There he learnt English by watching movies and took the name Victor Borge, quickly adapting his routine to American audiences.
His rise to fame was quick, after arriving in 1940, he starred in Rudy Vallee’s radio show in 1941, then won Best New Radio Performer in 1942. After this award, Borge was offered film roles with major stars including Frank Sinatra. Then, in 1946, he began hosting the Victor Borge Show on NBC.

around bullets it makes little difference.

Influential in the fields of political economy and demography and for his theories on population.
His ideas about the role of famine, disease, and competition between individuals in limiting population growth were radically opposed to the ideals of the time.
Malthus’ theory was an important influence on both Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace in their development of the theory of natural selection.
Biography: Thomas Robert Malthus is best known for having developed a theory about population growth and food production. His ideas, presented in “An Essay on the Principle of Population” (1798), influenced many thinkers and continue to be debated today.
Malthus was born into a well-connected family in Surrey, England. He was educated at Warrington Academy and later at Jesus College, Cambridge, where he excelled in mathematics. In 1789, Malthus became an Anglican cleric.
In 1798, Malthus published his most famous work, “An Essay on the Principle of Population.” This book argued that population growth would outpace food production, leading to widespread hardship. He continued to revise and expand this work throughout his life.
Malthus married Harriet Eckersall in 1804, and they had three children. In 1805, he became a professor at the East India Company College, teaching history and political economy. His students gave him the nickname “Pop” or “Population” Malthus.
During the 1820s, Malthus engaged in debates with fellow economist David Ricardo on various topics in political economy. He was also a founding member of the Political Economy Club and one of the first fellows of the Statistical Society.

Malthus died in 1834. His epitaph in Bath Abbey describes him as “One of the best men and truest philosophers of any age or country.”

Anthony Fokker was a Dutch aviation pioneer and aircraft manufacturer who played a significant role in the development of military and civil aviation during the early 20th century. I log in this morning to read about a woman set on fire in the NYC subway, and no one, not even the NYPD officer caught passing by, did anything to intervene. An illegal alien from Ecuador. Then there is the person in Washington State videoed dragging a dog on its back across the road/concrete walkway. A video was included in the piece (which I did not watch). Again, no one intervened. And to top it off, our idiot current pResident is commuting sentences for death row inmates. What next, full pardons? It won’t be perfect on Jan 20, 2025 at 12:01pm, but it certainly will be better.

I have long been a consumer of German builds and the integration of Porsche, Audi and VW have led to mixed results and many shared platforms.
I once was in the market for a small sized “sport SUV” called a “Macan” and found it was virtually the same vehicle as VW and even Audi’s offering using the exact same chassis and many of the same parts. Went with Porsche –

I grew up with a coal furnace in SE Pennsylvania
Dump truck would make a delivery down a chute into a corner bin of our basement … hard, shiny black anthracite … we’d shovel some into a wheelbarrow, roll it over to the furnace hatch and shovel it in … later, shovel the gray ash out the bottom for disposal.
Kept a lot of living space warm, we had 18-foot ceilings on the first floor, brick house built in the 1880s, looks like German architecture to me. It was a train station with large waiting room on the left and agent’s family quarters on the right.

A lot of those big ships on the lake haul Iron ore in the form of taconite pellets. We provided some abrasion resistant ceramic parts to a taconite processing plant up in N. Wisconsin/ UP of Michigan.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

By His Word we really did not have to

All our Christmas lights are lit. There is fire in the insert. All the presents and wrapped and under the tree. My oldest Granddaughter will be coming soon and she and Sherry will be cooking and baking for tomorrow we celebrate the birth of the only King on earth and our savior with my immediate family here and then on Christmas day go to celebrate it with all the family at my sisters house.
