We’re taking a break from the pot roast I made (feeds for days) and having BLTs. don’t participate, serious decorating is a long-standing tradition. Last year I just put in a single candle (battery
powered) in each front window. Seeing the glow of those single candles looked like a painting. This year I’ll
just put a single stand of lights in a big front window. Since I’ve told everyone that think of me as “the old guy
at the end of the street” I think this is a completely appropriate house decoration . . .
Re: my housework. For the first time in a long time I can now see the entirety of my kitchen table. This entailed
getting rid of three sizable stacks of magazines which had been sitting there for years. Magazines had started
crowding my eating space so I could no long ignore that something needed to be done.
I started this project by promising the kind cleaning lady who’s been with us (along with several colleagues) for
over 30 years. (We educated her kids, all of whom are now high-earning professionals. btw). I realized she
really didn’t like cleaning around my clutter and that realization galvanized me to turn my attention to the house.
Yep, I know all about feeling overwhelmed. Still, once I got started, once I looked at the 10 year old magazine
stacks, getting rid of all this stuff quickly became an imperative. And, bless her heart, my kitchen hasn’t been
this neat and clean in a long, long, time.

Betsey, that’s a poisonous Bufo toad! They are not indigenous to our country, and you can’t just relocate ’em because they keep coming back! The cat won’t attack it, but dogs will and the poison is secreted just behind the neck, right where it’s most convenient to bite! Down here in Florida, we don’t leave our pet food bowls outside day or night unsupervised, or else these bad boys will find it and tell their friends too. Plus they can contaminate the food an bowl if any of their poison happens to touch it! The poison can kill a small animal, a larger animal can get real sick quickly. If you see your dog acting like he got into something bad for him, wash his mouth out with the hose. Some dogs love ice, and crushed ice will help them wash out the poison. The humane way to kill the toads is the same way you’d gig a frog. Don’t forget to wash your own hands because the poison can sicken people too. Just trying to protect my fellow Treepers and their beloved pets.

We have Colorado River toads here that match that description. They are extremely poisonous to dogs. Looked out once – and there were 40 on the front porch (granddaughter counted them)!
We’ve been fortunate that only one of our dogs ever tangled with one. Poor Kemo almost lost, but we did indeed wash his mouth out with a hose, filled him with a virtual ton of steroid, and took him to our vet – who said, “You did everything I would have done, and he’s going to make it.” Thank the Lord.
Mostly our dogs studiously ignore them, even when they cross under their nose. But, toad season, which is also monsoon season, is scary. They even come in through the doggie door – Yuk. I grab a bath towel and scoop ’em up.
And, believe it or not, crazy people lick them for the hallucinatory effects – and wind up in the ER.
My husband used to see them when he worked emergency. Hope they don’t vote!

I was attending Bible School in Los Angeles in the early 1960s when he was still preaching at the Church of the Open Door.
It is a lifelong regret that I did not seize the opportunity of those days to be in that congregation every Sunday.
His kind of preaching was the kind of instruction we were also receiving (at a Bible-believing “old-style Lutheran” Bible School).
It was “not convenient” to get the Church of the Open Door–a bit of a bus ride–so we went to a variety of (mostly non-Lutheran) churches closer to us.

I have a question I’d like to pose to Americans in general. I think Americans on this site are more cerebral than most, hence this post, on this thread.
Last few days, I’ve posted responses to several Sundance threads: this one in particular – Israel and Hezbollah Ceasefire Agreement in Lebanon Holds Despite Skirmishes – The Last Refuge – just follow the comments to my first post on that. (Press CTRL + F and type “light” and you’ll find it.)
I’m a baptised Christian, confirmed Anglican, which for those not Episcopalian means I’m entitled to partake in Communion. I have become disillusioned last decade or so by Anglican embrace of the LGBT agenda which I view as Satanic so I no longer practice that faith, but I still practice Godly worship and reverence as best I know how, admitting I know little answer as to how faithfully to do that without a full Church behind me. Point is, I trust few these days, and these days, IMO, bear out my decision in that regard.
My question to those here, is how do American Christians reconcile what Israel is plainly and evidently doing to innocents: men, women, children, in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon? The murder is evident. The slaughter and the cruelty is evident.
Yet many to most Americans appear comfortable with this, and I don’t understand why.
I live in and was born in New Zealand. I have visited America once for a short time – Seattle in the early 90’s – but I have met and befriended many Americans over the years in NZ and I have universally found you to be a most open, friendly, kind, generous and compassionate people.
I just don’t understand and cannot reconcile, those characteristics with your – from the comments on that thread – vehement denial that Israel could possibly be in any way a bad player with respect to what it’s doing today. It’s not self-defence, it’s outright murder. It’s wholesale slaughter of innocents. It is. Period. End of story. That’s the reality. The most well documented genocide in history is being committed right now today and it couldn’t be happening without American aid. All Biden ever had to do was pick up the phone and tell Bibi stop it or else no more military aid, no more economic aid, and Israel would have been forced to stop. One phone call. To stop what is literally Nazi-scale genocide. Yet there is no call from ordinary Americans to do this, and Trump is giving no sign he’s going to do anything of the sort, either.
I just can’t reconcile this inaction in the clear and present face of inhumanity with what I have always understood as being your national character. I’m personally ashamed of my own leaders in NZ for not taking the same actions, and also my own countrymen for not demanding they do so. I wish they would, and I’m doing what I can over here to pressure them to do so. But like all Western countries, we all follow you in the US, as the lead, and we follow. Like lemmings off the cliff.
When I made that post above, I thought of all people in America, at least a good proportion of treepers might get what I was saying, rather than hallucinating because I was criticising Israel this therefore meant I was of course antisemitic. But no, apparently not.
The reason I made this post on this thread is because I am following Sundance’s dictum to “seek first to understand.” I agree, so I thought I’d ask this question in a backwater thread in the middle of a holiday season where few will be following, deliberately to avoid any controversy. I hope someone in the Treeper team picks it up and the question I’m raising someday makes it to the main board in the form of a considered article, because I truly believe that unless and until America confronts its extraordinary love and obedience and subservience to a nation which clearly doesn’t merit such, it never again will achieve the great status it once enjoyed amongst the global community.
I will attempt to help you understand.
1. Every innocent death is a tragedy. I don’t think anyone would disagree, especially Israel.
2. Unfortunately, innocent people die in wars. And this is a war.
3. In this war, there is the lowest number of innocent deaths compared to combatants, in the entire history of urban warfare. This is even taking into account the use of Hamas numbers which are most likely a lie.
4. Israel is fighting a just war. They were attacked. They have also set the objectives clearly. To return every hostage, to defeat terrorists Hamas. 100 hostages remain in Gaza. Including many foreign nationals.
5. Israel is following the rules of war and taking more precautions to prevent innocent deaths than any other country, which is why there is such a low number of civilian deaths.
6. Hamas does everything they can to cause more civilian deaths. For example, their main headquarters was under a hospital. They store and send rockets from schools and mosques. None of this is an accident – they want Israel to attack these locations. As well as not being an accident, it’s also a war crime, which I rarely hear any pushback about. Furthermore, the ones who disagree with my first point are the terrorists, Hamas, Hezbollah, etc.
Golda Meir had a quote, which I will paraphrase because I’m too lazy to find the correct words:
We will eventually forgive you for killing our children, but we will never forgive you for making us kill yours.
Actually, you should read her many quotes. She gets it right, and the same problems remain today.
You should also consider following some pro Israel sites. Because if you have the views you expressed, then it looks a lot like you’re not getting both sides of the story.
I strongly recommend checking out this open thread regularly to read what is posted by David. He is an Israeli and his information is spectacular. I follow many sites and I know most of what he says, and I can confirm it is accurate. If you are genuine, you can also ask him questions – he is very knowledgeable.

Not few words, but yet concise, as there is so much needed to say for that thorough explanation.
There’s so many facets that make up the whole – but the biggest for me is that, there’s no other option for Israel but to engage in this war.
They cannot exist with the peace and mercy they prefer – and have tried to bring – over and over and over again.
Giving away their own land at times to do so, has brought no compromise from those whose goal is not peace – EVER – nor will it ever be.
Ones that have been allowed to live, basically a stone’s throw away, whose very lives are aimed and lived to eradicate all Jewish people.
And not meaning Palestinians, as a whole – though when asked, many non-terrorists do repeat that desire also. Maybe they don’t state the eradication part outright – but they want them gone. To where though, is a question they don’t answer in any way.
The peace deal offered is never truly accepted – and followed, though they will pretend until a slaughter like Oct 7th happens.
What is Israel supposed to do when the violence they’ve not instigated is brought brutally upon them?
Negotiate? For what? All the same-old same-old that lands them there in those same circumstances – whatever they try and pretty much wherever they go?
What else is left for them but to try to uphold what’s been given to them – by these very UN nations now calling them criminals for defending their little patch of land they’ve brought to life.

The whole story is there in His Word! Read the Bible- He doesn’t say it’s up for grabs at any time. His Word is true and here – and applicable – yesterday, today and forever.
The land, soil and sea are rich with the artifacts and history of God’s people and all that is spoken of – in His Word!

Sadly, there are a lot of factual inaccuracies in your reply. The civilian to combat kill ratio is in fact the opposite of what you suggest, Israel has killed far more innocents than it has Hamas fighters and that’s just on published casualty figures to date, and most civilian casualties haven’t yet been counted because they’re buried in the rubble or have been vaporised by the weapons supplied to Israel by the US. Israel is not following the rules of war, the ICC has just indicted Netanyahu for war crimes, and many more people will be prosecuted, including many American political leaders up to and including Biden, for facilitating war crimes.
I could go on, but there’s not enough space to rebut every point you have made with undeniable and overwhelming evidence, so I’m just going to leave you all with a few general things to think about and give you some videos to look at, if you want to.
Whether you know it or not, in this Gaza, West Bank and Lebanese war, the only country who supports Israel, is the US. The US stands alone with Israel, because the rest of the world is horrified about the clear and present war crimes Israel has been committing since Oct 8 last year. You wouldn’t know this from fake news, but I would hope no-one here watches fake news or at least doesn’t watch it expecting anything like the truth ever to emerge from it. And just like he’s right to insist on that as a means to stand and face the truth about US domestic politics in terms of understanding the machinations and mechanisms of the deep state control grid, that same stop pretending principle equally applies to understanding the truth of international relations, where the international deep state exert equal distortion and undue influence over US foreign policy. We have seen how the neocons ginned up fake allegations of WMDs in Iraq to justify that invasion and how that tissue of lies fell apart over the years until now, everyone understands it was all a lie, and was always a lie. But the less widely acknowledged aspect of that tissue of lies which killed millions of Iraqi human beings, is that the entity behind it all were the neocons, and they did it because they wanted to manipulate the US into taking out one of Israel’s two main enemies in the region, one of them was Iraq, and the other one is Iran. You should all know this, it’s true, it happened, Israel was behind it, and fact is, Israel is now doing it again, this time trying to get the US into a war with Iran. Stop pretending. The things you said above about Israel fighting a just war in a just way, are equally pretending Rach. The non pretending view of what Israel is doing is that it is fighting an unjust war of aggression using full military force to unjustly slaughter hundreds of thousands of civilians, with thousands more being added to the list every single day. Every country in the world recognises this, except the US.

You are spot on Charlotte 99. There are many people who quite obviously do not want to know the truth. They seem to be very content stewing in their hatred and seemingly attempting to recruit more haters. I am a Jewish female veteran of a certain age. My family tree holds more veterans than non-veterans. I am also a believer in and follower of Messiah Yeshua. There are times I give myself a break from the treehouse because of the ardent know-it-all haters who allow no quarter whatsoever for any differing opinion. For a while I struggled with bitter feelings but I know what God’s word says about His people and the land HE gave them. Yes, there is going to be a terrible time of judgment – the Time of Jacob’s Trouble (Jeremiah 30) – because He is holy and we have continued to violate His laws to the horrific extent of denying His Son, which He was aware of from before the foundation of the world and His purposes cannot be denied or stopped. However, there will come a day when “they (the Jews) will “look on Him whom they have pierced.” A national mourning and finally seeing Him without the veil!
In the meantime, I pray the haters – some of whom have the ignorance and/or temerity to profess to be Christians will ask God for wisdom. If they really do read the Word, they know that James tells us when we ask for wisdom – with a sincere heart, He gives to us “generously.” Also, read Romans 11. It’s all in the Book.

What I find incredible after all this time is the fact that we are still fighting over the same root issue – INHERITANCE – Is the land given to Ismael or Issac. I know the Torah and Christian Bible are clear on this – Issac is the inheritor, according to the word of God. So how is it possible that many in the Muslim world believe this to be incorrect. I know they claim Ismael as he is the first born of Abraham. Hey, so go argue with God. Nearly 2000 years and all the genius scholars still cannot agree?? Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Jinx, King of the Miniaturized Mountain Ligers, has now figured out how to use tools.
Instead of launching his heft onto the kitchen counter to signal feeding time at the big cat enclosure, he now walks to the nearest lower cabinet and proceeds to paw open the door just far enough for the loaded hinges to slam shut repeatedly until I put down CTH and come out food in the bowl.
Now that I have it on film I need to annoy my nephew to spoon feed me the steps to upload the video here.

While at the Monterey Pop Festival I was usually in the backstage area called “The Hunt Club”. Why it was called that? I’ll never know. But it was where the food and beverages for the performers and staff was prepared, shared and eaten.
Everyone sat at “picnic tables” and there was one very peculiar guy(?) and we all know that voice – that of Tiny Tim. He sang in the awful warble accompanied by his strummed ukelele and I was aghast as a musically precocious ten year old kid – surrounded by the then and soon to be best rock stars that CA and in some cases ( The Who ) had to offer.
I didn’t think much of the guy or his talent – thought it was a joke.
Jump ahead back to L.A. and I was drumming for a guy who had just been signed to Columbia and was being noticed as our first gig was opening for Blood Sweat and Tears ( then my friend Al Kooper’s band still before they kicked him out – of his own band! ) and come to find that Richard Perry then up n coming record producer ( everyone from Carly Simon to Nilsson to Ringo Starr to… Richard produced hits and one day we drive down to TTG studios at Sunset and Highland Ave heart of Tinseltown to…

Biography: Tiny Tim was an American singer and ukulele player who came to fame in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely due to his hit single “Tiptoe Through the Tulips,” a cover of a song originally released in the 1920s. The song, featured on his 1968 debut album, God Bless Tiny Tim, became a pop culture phenomenon, quickly climbing the charts.
He subsequently appeared on numerous TV shows, including Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, where he famously married his first wife, Miss Vicki, live on air. The event was watched by an estimated 40 million people.
While most remember him for his hit single and television appearances, Tiny Tim was an avid student of American popular music, particularly the early 20th-century tunes he frequently covered. His discography is extensive, though most of his later work didn’t achieve the commercial success of his early hits.
He continued to perform throughout the ’80s and ’90s, although health issues began to take their toll. In 1996 suffered a heart attack at a ukulele festival and then another heart attack on stage not long after, passing away shortly after the second.

Biography: Evel Knievel was a daredevil stunt performer whose stunts made him a famous pop culture figure in the 1960s and 1970s. His outrageous jumps on a motorcycle were as famous for their failure as their success.
Knievel’s first major stunt was his attempt to jump across the fountains at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. He just failed, breaking a few bones but film of the jump was played on TV and brought him nationwide fame.
In 1971 Knievel set a new world record jumping over 19 cars in Houston. In another stunt in 1974 he famously tried to cross Snake River Canyon, Idaho, with a special steam-powered rocket. However equipment failure stopped him.
In 1975 he made an attempt to jump over 13 double-decker buses in front of 10,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium, London. He just failed, hitting the 13th bus and injuring his vertebrae. Throughout his stunt career Knievel sort to increase his profile, he donned a flamboyant caped costume, merchandised toys of himself and a feature film was made of his life starring George Hamilton.

Biography: Christine McVie is best known for her work with the rock band Fleetwood Mac. She wrote and performed many of the group’s hit songs, playing a major part in their global success.
McVie began her music career in the 1960s with the blues band Chicken Shack. She joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 after marrying the band’s bassist, John McVie. As a member of Fleetwood Mac, she wrote and sang lead vocals on several popular songs. The band released their self-titled album “Fleetwood Mac” (1975), which included McVie’s song “Over My Head.”

I can highly recommend the book “Making Rumors” by the co-producers of the album. Funny stories about that job and those involved + what happened to make it an album of the year. I found it to be an interesting read

I knew this guy too. He would often come to a friends bar on Sunset Blvd and the first thing he would do is drop a $100.00 bill onto the bar and buy the house a round.

It was an “Olympia Beer” convention and I was staying overnight in the hotel. Awoken at like 7 in the AM for the great SVF earthquake. I thought the building would collapse though miles from the epicenter.
Back to Evel. He had a cane with a twist-top always filled with vodka. Last time I saw him he was towing his bike with some special edition truck by Galpin Ford in the SFV and it was garishly pianted with Evel’s famous Red White and Blue patriotic color scheme.

When my kiddos were little and I needed to use my inhaler, and had no clue where I had left it, I would make the motion of squeezing my thumb and fingers together – and they would run off in the quest of finding it. (As teenagers, I used to think they hid it ! 😜)
