We have a tradition of going to a nursery and getting a live potted tree or beautiful large bush. Yes you read that correctly, and try to keep your shirt on, but that age old question that’s been plaguing Appalachians for centuries is about to be answered. As far back as I can recall I’ve heard old timers theorize on what could possibly happen to cause rivers in a tight valley to rise quickly, but no one could ever convince us.
You would think the answer would be easy to find, as if it would just fall out of the sky and hit you in the face, but it’s more complex than that, and we need to spend millions to get our conclusion.
Unfortunately for Western North Carolina they won’t be getting any part of that $77.8 million, but in four to five years they’ll finally know what caused the flooding that devastated their communities, and that piece of mind is more valuable than surviving a cold winter in the mountains.
Then there is the NC side of things for those in WNC (thankfully the other states aren’t so severely handicapped)…

So far FEMA is almost not existent except for hundreds of packages of bottled water sitting all along the road.
So many people applied for FEMA aide and were denied for unknown reasons. Our congressman who is a Rino is really trying to do a good job on this so I don’t want to complain about him too much at the moment. He has an office full of people that you can call and get help as they will call FEMA for you.
Of course Western North Carolina outside of Asheville and a couple of college towns is red and Trump country. So that may explain why no one knows what FEMA is doing or why none of the money allocated here has shown up.
FEMA was always an excuse for the federal government to grab power, and should not exist.

And they did much the same to Hospitals. When NAFTA ratched up illegal immigration in the 90’s and the first wave of illegals hit my area, local hospitals were forced to give the illegals “free medical care” and they bankrupted numerous hospitals in my old area and degraded the ones that didn’t fold. We even had incidences of illegals not having driving licenses,registrations,insurance, and committing driving infractions and being let go because the State/Federal government would not do anything to assist local law enforcement. So the ‘joke’ around us patriots back then was that the illegals were more free than us citizens.
They are attempting to do to the banks what they already did to our Medical system. Boycott all of them and go Credit Union banks or any independents.

I understand your side of the conversation Reed – many of the larger banks are that way and would hate to be dependent upon any major banks of the western USA in today’s world. A Cat is easier (don’t let them outside) but a Dog more rewarding in the sense that it will force you to walk which in my case is a good thing. If you got to a foster rescue, the fosters can tell you its temperament, house broken, does it like cats, other dogs etc. Dogs that are a bit older may be a better fit in some cases than a puppy. Mellower and they are harder to adopt. A animal family member would be a great addition. Best of luck to you.

First, Social Security is not the problem. Social Security is currently running a modest cash-based deficit, but the key word here is “modest.” Lifting the FICA tax by, say, 1%, lifting the cap by 10% or so or some combination would likely balance it today and, in the next 10 or 20 years die offs from Boomers will start to reduce the outlays. Bessent knows this because he can read the MTS so assuming he’s not deliberately blind he’s lying and thus it is my sincere hope that he took six clotshots and gets his just reward for doing so along with his entire family.
I’d usually be a bit more-kind but not this time, and here’s why:
“”These entitlements are massive. I think the next four years isn’t the time to deal with them, that we’ve got to deal with the discretionary portion of the budget and get that under control. Yes, I understand that so-called “entitlements” are third rail of politics. But just like politicians always conflate Social Security (which is easy to fix) with Medicare and Medicaid (which isn’t, as the grift is in the latter and not the former) only Medicaid is an “entitlement”, that is to say WELFARE in that the other two you paid for during your working life. Further, fixing it does not require refusing to cover what people paid for and while changing what Medicaid is ought to be done, as I’ve outlined, you can fix the problem immediately by removing the fraud, theft, and other outrageously felonious behavior without refusing to honor the agreement Americans entered into.
You can huff, puff and chin-wag all you want but the facts are what they are. The entire problem forcing the deficit higher resides in CMS and it is occurring on an exponential basis — it is not Social Security. Yes, discretionary spending is also out of control but cutting discretionary spending back (and we must) will not resolve the issue; you must dismantle the medical monopolists and only the threat of hard prison time, which incidentally 15 USC Ch 1 already provides for and thus there are no new laws required, will do the job and it must be done immediately, not over 4 years or worse, into the next term after Trump leaves office.
We are out of time and must deal with this problem now.
The inflationary spike from October is already baked into the cake because that spending has already happened and essentially all of it was in CMS. I’ve been harrassed for more than a year (since early 2023) to sign up for free money, free dental care, free this and free that. WHO IS PAYING THESE SCAMMERS TO CALL ALL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE (ESPECIALLY THE SENIORS). seniors fall hard and easily for programs like these but I’m not one of them.
I know this has got to to be trickery of some sort but common sense keeps me sane.
I initiated my Social Security application about 5 weeks ago and within a day after I have been hit with about 6- 10 calls every day of the very nature you speak of. I can only conclude that someone in the Federal Government immediately handed over my contact information to private companies.
Don’t currently have it handy, but a recent graph shows that over the last decade+ that while the number of doctors have barely increased, that the number of ADMINISTRATORS (including those dealing with the government run and dictated bureaucracies) has exploded at an exponential rate until they outnumber the doctors by orders of magnitude. The medical/pharma industrial complex, with the help of Dopey, created a giant wealth sucking leech in the mode of the military/industrial complex (except it’s since far exceeded it).
Is this true?🤔
Not now. Focus on purging the bureaucracy with DOGE and fixing the fiscal catastrophe we’re heading for. Deal with those weasels afterwards.

I see Tom Homan has said he intends to expose the NGO’S, Foreign Govt.s and U..N. involvement in the human trafficing on our Southern border.
WE all know about it, of coarse but there are many that don’t, and much of the activity, including by U.S. Govt. agencies, are clear violations of Federal laws, human trafficing, etc.
And, Megyn Kelly is repeating, and so magnifying a call by John Yoo, a prominent DC Lawyer (who wrote the memo saying torture is Constitutional) and many here have expressed; that the incoming Administrstion MUST prosecute the many crimes of the last administration for the sake of Justice, and to make it clear such things as political Prosecutions are NOT acceptable behavior.
The other side of the argument is that by doing so, We are simply codifying this and so every incoming admin will engage in prosecuting their predecessors, and we should “let our Victory be their punishment” as PDJT has expressed, although he has also said we need a “Truth and reconciliation” board or committee of some kind.
I frankly lean towards the latter, and feel that exposing for all to see, the various schemes and actions of the conspirators, IN THEIR OWN WORDS, (accessing the NSA datsbase,) should be sufficient in making the miscreants pariahs, unable to show their face
in public, etc.
However, seeing that many of these same people are continueing to plot and scheme against PDJT, causes me to lean towards “hell yes, prosecute them!” and away from “Let our victory be the punishment.”
As often happens, a debate which starts here in the Treehouse, 2-3 months later is debated in the public square.
I am torn, because I see good, valid arguments on each side of the question, and as yet, can not firmly commit to a position, one way or the other.
Let us hope that both here in the Treehouse, and out there in the larger MAGA ,”community” that as this debate rages on, we can keep it civil,, respectful, avoid name calling, etc.

I agree on the whole, but I am for retribution and Reckoning being justifiable and Justice.
The counter on the argument about future retaliatory lawfare is this:
1. ‘They’ have already demonstrated that they will engage in Lawfare anyway;
2. If the totality or overwhelming majority of the guilty are prosecuted, removed from power and/or exposed, they will not be in a position to retaliate with BS as they will become disenfranchised from power or being able to obtain offices or bureaucratic positions due to criminal records.
4 “R’s” of Restorative Justice:
Responsibility
Restitution
Rehabilitation
Relationship
Only criminal or server civil legal remedies address those 4 “R’s,” imo.
MAGA has no need to give the internal enemies the J6 treatment. Their crimes will bury them in an honest Federal Court system on known evidence alone.
If proper sentences are handed out post conviction just like any of us plebs could or would get, these jokers will be braiding hair and washing skivvies for their Pod Boss/Shot Caller in a brutal Federal Lockup before suppertime.
If it’s good enough for us, so is it for them.
The problem or flaw in that as remedy, is that there is no “honest Federal Court“.
That has been evidenced with the likes of the Chutkan’s, the Boasberg’s, Amit Mehta, the Beryl Howell’s et al and I could list twenty. The list is replete with those legislating from the bench and bastardizing law, in favor of the leftist bureaucrats that have infiltrated and overrun the DOJ in large part.
So what you propose seemed contradictory, but if the takeaway is simply they should be tried? I agree. But again –
I do believe the DC court system is unreliable vis a vis issuing verdicts that comport with actual law and evidence based findings. Which you seem to propose would render “justice” and I would ordinarily agree. But, for the foregoing.
By now? I still believe – the “military is the only way“.
In many cases and at the absolute pinnacle, of elected and non elected civil servants, – we are talking about TREASON.
I see Dutch’s overarching point, but if allowed to play out, then the probability is that the criminal class will continue to be emboldened by the consistent lack of consequences – and/or punitive punishments. Which clearly would be justified. Punishments, that is.
So I’m erring on the side of agreement with your final closing conclusion. Criminal justice, is the only way. As I also believe the “military is the only way”.
By now I think the only way forward and to send the clear and correct, unambiguous MESSAGE is to take the people most guilty of high crimes, felonies, and treason –

They, the criminal class, only have themselves to “thank”! For believing their seeming impunity, was to remain unchallenged in perpetuity.
There is so much mess to clean up, probably a lot of the cleanup will have to be postponed. The fiscal catastrophe we’re headed toward, the massive fraud and waste in the DoD and in Medicare/Medicaid, and the entrenched bureaucracy in DC that needs to be purged, plus some crimes were worse than others. The coup d’etat run against President Trump during his presidency needs to be punished by prosecution to the extent that any of it was illegal or by firings of any remaining bureaucrats who perpetrated it. There may not be time or manpower to prosecute all crimes, and priorities need to be set.
Leaving that aside, crimes should be punished by prosecution with total disregard for the notion that this might set up a precedent that administrations may prosecute their predecessors. That notion is entirely specious for two reasons.
First of all, it’s simply a fallacy. A crime is a crime, and its prosecution is not to be portrayed as “prosecuting one’s predecessors”. Those who portray it as such simply need to be rebutted with the facts: “Did so-and-so commit a crime or not? Yes or no?” If the answer is yes, then there is no argument.
Second, not prosecuting creates an aristocracy who is above the law, such that it encourages future crimes and destroys equality under the law.
Take the ill gotten proceeds of their nefarious crimes, and subject them to a public caning.
Here’s one POV:
The value of retaliation is greatly underestimated. Trump 47 should pursue this bank with the full power of the executive branch. Every imaginable investigation, audit, review, and scrutiny should be directed at this bank. Make their very existence a living nightmare, particularly for its executives. If this is done, it will serve as a deterrent for the future. If it is not done, they’ll do it again.
We are not just talking about skirting the law….These people broke laws , ignored the Constitution, ignored SCOTUS rulings,made up laws, for evil reasons. And most importantly did so to destroy this country.
They have also been operating worldwide in using our resources to cause suffering. Right now starvation is happening in the poorest of countries because of the policies they have implemented. Crimes against Humanity. They destroyed livelihoods, futures, and actually killed and maimed millions with the clot shots.
We will not get all that are involved but if you charge those who are at the top.. that have been obvious in their criminality, that’s a good start in letting others know there are consequences. We can not have 2 tiered justice.

One of the best ideas I heard from Donald Trump for his second term is to move as many as 100,000 federal employees to “new locations outside the Washington Swamp” to places “filled with patriots who love America.” This initiative will save tax dollars and help depoliticize federal agencies. There also are important security and fairness reasons to relocate these agencies across the United States.
Many of these employees do little work and are extremely hard to fire. Even worse, nearly 90% of federal government office space in Washington is vacant because most federal workers began working from home during the COVID pandemic and never returned to their offices.
