Having studied the intersections of social connections, culture, politics and DC systems, and after a long careful review of our current state of being, I have come to a conclusion that sets the conversation around the Thanksgiving dinner table in 2024.
I earnestly believe that in the USA, on a social and political level, there are two group assemblies in a transitional period of dynamic opposition to each other.
♦ Those who pretend.
♦ Those who do not pretend.
There are republicans and democrats who pretend, and there are democrats and republicans who do not pretend.
My contention is that what we call “MAGA” is a larger assembly of the non-pretending group. Hence, the cross-party/cross-cultural cross-over, and what is often called the division in our nation.

For instance, I watched the Senate debate on the $95 billion supplemental appropriation for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan in April. A bipartisan majority passionately asserted that ‘We cannot allow Putin to win,’ without citing any actual US interest at stake. They just displayed raw emotion, making no effort to buttress their claims with facts.
Much as a defense lawyer will passionately advocate for an obviously guilty defendant – because the lawyer is paid to do so – I observe and conclude that most Senators surely must be paid advocates.
A corresponding prong of this argument is that the Defense Department has not been able to pass an audit for over 15 years. Some $3 trillion is said to be unaccounted for. Evidently, the Defense/national security nexus is a veritable fountain of grift.
Finally, there’s the dog that didn’t bark. Normally Senators would be chary about increasing funding to a department whose finances are in shambles. Moreover, in the case of Ukraine, clear evidence exists showing theft and resale of US-supplied materiel. Yet Senators fall all over themselves to appropriate more, more, more to Defense in general and the Ukies in particular.
Add it all up, and one can reasonably conclude that the Congressional kabuki show is mostly grift-driven, with a majority serving as paid, commission-based advocates for more spending on the military and other pharaonic projects. It’s a Uniparty phenomenon, and thus will continue in the 119th Congress just as it did in this one.

So… why do we need Senators and “Representatives”? Hmmmm….

The more I think about this is that they really have no responsibilities. Congress has delegated its responsibilities to all of the Executive bureaucrats or lobbyists. They no longer write laws. They no longer declare war. They no longer put out budgets for each department — they just bicker on the price and then grift what they can. Why should they be able to send money to a war in Ukraine without a declaration of war?

Retired Magistrate here: In my opinion a lot of people don’t want to think for themselves and see things the way they really are. It is more comfortable for them to be spoon fed some drivel that that seems plausible and does not upset their emotions.

I agree with so much of what you say Marcia. I think more people than not are no longer pretending. But I have also noticed that in order to know and understand, you need to take the time to actually learn. It’s great effort, a lot like running up a long, steep hill. While you’re doing it, the task seems endless and often impossible. So if you’re truly determined, you put one foot in front of the other and just keep going. You run your own race, and when you finish, you’ve got the knowledge that you’ve completed something bigger than you. Learning in order to understand the depth of what’s truly going on is that hill. I’ve run it, so it’s now my race. Sadly, so many I know simply say they hate running, or simply can’t run. No interest in simply trying to run slowly.

I have an older sister (who lives in New York) with whom in the past I have attempted to discuss political and social issues. She knows my conservative views. My attempts at these conversations were met with her putting her fingers in her ears and saying “I don’t want to hear it”. Needless to say I have given up. Until the MSM is forced to tell the truth, people like my sister are beyond any hope. They only believe what the TV says.

I’ve always said 70 to 75% of people can agree on 70 to 80% of things that need to be done with the ability to agree to disagree on the rest: politicians on the other hand use the 20% to divide everyone against each other and not do the 80% people can agree on.
There’s a real opportunity to bring in a large group of people. With high turnout we can crush the mid-terms and get rid of a lot of Rino’s: opposing the Trump agenda will be fatal to their time in office.
Pretending would be those who think we are a country and not an empire. Believing we are citizens and not subjects and continuing the status quo.
Non pretending is those who know we are an empire.. We are subjects who want to be citizens and who don’t want the status quo.

I always look at it as a Great Divide between those who are Results Based and those who are Emotion Based.

I agree; the not pretending is a mix of people from all political spectrums that have decided to be open to truth wherever that takes them and the remaining group could be broken down into two categories such as
those who continue to pretend preferring the illusion of ‘their reality’ to actual reality and
those who are so hypnotized by their ‘smart phones’ they are on the verge of being mere puppets and have no concept of the world around them is full of life their little devices cannot fathom how to incorporate into their mass delusion.
That last group will be the shock troops for the pretenders who remain under the illusion they will be the winners when all is said and done.
Am Thankful that it is in the human heart and soul that the sound of Truth does in fact awaken those who have not willingly learned to block their eyes and ears, so they will eventually see and hear what the Spirit says to the churches (individuals); sadly there’s most likely a lot of ugly between now and when that happens.

I’m just a dumb ol cotton farmer from Texas who was born right after WWII. We were still in the depression in our area at that time, sharecroppers. While Dad and Mom worked a job in town for money to buy groceries and then farmed at night to put money away, I stayed with my grandparents during the day until I started school. My grandpa quit school in the 4th grade to help out on the farm and yet knew more about what was right and wrong and money lending than anyone else I had ever met until I graduated from college. One thing he imparted to me was the fact [that is still relevant today in my opinion] is the farther the population gets from the land the dumber they are. I took my grandsons hunting and fishing [they loved to eat meat and fish] and they couldn’t believe that you had to kill a deer or a trout to eat either. You were supposed to “buy” it at the grocery store??? When I showed them my garden with all the vegetables they said why do you do this when you can get it at HEB? This when they were ready to go to high school; without proper education we are doomed, not what kind of pronouns you answer to!!!

In the non-pretending group, there are those of us who know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, based on easily accessible facts that there is an enormous child trafficking problem and the open border facilitates that. Children, the innocent, are suffering terribly and people prefer to watch a movie and drink a cocktail than do something about it. The majority of abortions have nothing to do with rape, incest, or the life of the mother. They have to do with convenience and selfishness. For rape, incest, or the life of the mother, many agree there are exceptions. Just two examples of how the Pretenders don’t appear to value Life above their selfish fantasies, yet they proclaim loudly about “equity”. For whom?
The non-pretenders know that our government has let us down in an almost incalculable way: healthcare, the food system, public education, the attack on small farmers and small businesses, the outrageous taxation – even after death, the ridiculous “rules” that we must adhere to or be arrested, the censorship, the attack on our 2nd amendment right, etc.
The jab was calculated to hurt people, not help them. We do not pretend that the government has our best interests at heart. Our government is in deep, serious, crippling debt. Our government interferes in other countries’ politics, stages “color revolutions”, blows money out the wazoo, and is responsible for untold number of deaths. And more.
The Plandemic opened my eyes to just how many people would voluntarily do as they were told. Most not coerced. They believed that the television/propaganda was true. Zero critical thinking. And during that time, the Pretenders lashed out at the Non-pretenders with hatred I have never seen in my life. Not to say that many didn’t recognized their errors and changed course because they did. Was the Plandemic to gauge social decay to see if we were ripe for a complete Communist takeover? Possibly.
I do not pretend that we live in a rosey world. I face the reality. Does that destroy me? No, because my hope is in Christ, the Messiah. We are only sojourners here. However, we will answer to God for our actions or lack thereof.
I agree that it’s the Pretenders vs the Non-Pretenders. Scripture calls it the great delusion. It’s in every facet of American life. Who’s to blame? Satan most likely. But, along the way, we can rebuke Satan in the Name of Jesus and be free from the delusions. It’s a matter of choice. Many are so very warm and cozy in their delusions that they won’t change. Sad.
Is this the natural outcome of wealth and power? I know that many of us got down on our knees and prayed for mercy and I believe the Lord God has given us a short reprieve. We need to keep praying, “Lord open my eyes so I may see.”
I do pray for the “great awakening”. God wants everyone to draw near to him. No matter what they did wrong. He seeks us. I mentioned some “hot topics” for a reason. If someone has a violent rejection of the Truth, then they are under demonic influence, and sadly many of them are in public office.
Maybe I took the question too far Sundance, but your question is deep, very deep, and I believe it is a Spiritual problem.

I think you mean those who do take the Constitution and the conservation of Western Civilization seriously vs those who only pretend to do so but only want to accrue pleasures and powers for themselves.
