Something I have been talking about, that NATO itself is the problem over in Europe, Builder Donald Trump brought up the funding part of the problem long ago, but I’d go one step further, don’t even have NATO anymore, they’d have to find a new excuse for fighting.
I am finding out that I’m not alone in recognizing the issue.
Take away NATO and see how we do without it. Does anyone think we’d do worse than right now?
The only reason NATO continues to exist is because it creates visibility of solving some security issues around the world, the issues that it devises itself, the issues that otherwise wouldn’t even exist had there been no NATO.

What of intelligence sharing, technical and humint, that all sides benefit from?
What of our commitments to Israel and Taiwan and elsewhere? There will be future wars. Ask the American warfighter to do it all on his/her own…and everything that implies?
What of overflight privileges that are integral to long range ops, particularly in the ME?
What of medical facilities in GE that have been critical in saving warfighter lives?
What about comms systems, that I cannot discuss, that EU fills critical gaps for?
What about all the subsystems in critical weapons systems that have, rightly or wrongly, been subcontracted to EU and other countries?
What about logistics pipelines, especially when Services like the Navy just announced a major shortfall in MSC manning?
What about critical chokepoints? Does it help or does it not to have military alliances with those countries?
What about our own manning/force readiness shortfalls? Does it help or detract to have allies?
NATO may have to go. But isolationism is not the answer. Probably relearn that lesson once a dirty weapon detonates in the US.

Our politicians are more focused on sending $$$ overseas than investing in common sense protections here (e.g., protect the grid against EMPs, get China out of our food supply (Smithfield), stop selling farmland to foreigners especially around military bases, eliminating TdA, etc.). We need a well conceived and executed primary strategy to elect those who will protect America.

China, Russia, Turkey, et al, are expanding globally and militarily. PDJT is smartly using economic pressures to change perspectives and costs. Having bases abroad and allies has always been a mainstay of US real politic.
The point is that wars are prevented by having the ability to share intelligence, to add alliances to the threat assessment China et al have to account for, to be able to project power from bases abroad, to be able to sustain logistics from distances shorter than 8000 miles. There are trade-offs in all of this. Those necessities persist regardless of whether NATO ceases to exist or not. It’s not a zero sum, pack your bags and come home deal. Another way of putting: when the time comes and intel is needed, overflight privileges are requested, alternate bases for damaged aircraft are needed, etc., etc, does the US really want to go it alone?

It wasn’t like the other boroughs at all. I liked it, some great restaurants,bakeries and such. Heavily Italian. Good people, many of them moved to Marlboro NJ and surrounding towns after 9/11, I think that’s when it started to change a bit.

Recently in “my community,” we had DHS, Immigration and Naturalization raid both a Japanese restaurant and Mexican restaurant for human smuggling, both of them.
The employees, servers, etc had been long time employees (Mexican at the Mexixan restaurant and Korean at the Japanese restaurant), everyone “knew” them, “met” them, loved them, etc.
As it turns out, not a single one was legal.
Just because you know of someone in your community and have met them does not mean they’re legal and you know it because of your feelings about them.
If you haven’t seen a green card or witnessed their naturalization, then you don’t know but were claiming you did.
Unless you know every personal official detail (as verified through government documents) of those migrants that were making those wire remittances you claimed in your initial reply to Colkitto and insisted they were ‘legal’ for some unknown motive to emphasize by underlining, then that claim is highly suspect for a multitude of reasons.

But it is the disasters we should learn about and understand first if time is limited, simply because a pleasure you miss may be a disappointment, but a disaster averted may well be the difference between life and death.
