Been so long since I’ve had bacon, I’ve forgotten what it tastes like! I used to pig out on bacon cheeseburgers! Been like 3-4 decades ago, LOL! Now I concentrate on veggies. Plant protein is easier on the body! Rice and beans with mixed veggies is all I need for a good meal.
Plant proteins are harder to digest.
But they produce more gas.
Plant protein is no comparison to anmal protein. If you are a man you better be careful or you will lose muscle mass. And take a b12 supplement. You can only get b12 from animal protein. I know 2 men who were told by their doctors that they were going to die if they did not start eating animal.
The whole plant thing is just another fad. You dont hav e to eat bacon cheeseburgers or gorge on meat but you really should eat meat a few times a week. Women seem to do better than men as vegies but my observation is that must vegetarians are actually carbohydrate addicts. Beans are classified as carbohydrates and so is rice. So mostly you are eating carbs that are digested as sugar.

Sprouts is sorta ok but I have to travel 40 miles + to most supermarkets. I’ve managed to avoid Wallyworld, thankfully. That store gives me the creeps.

One endeavor I’ve taken on to get around shrinkflation is to bake my own bread. I’ve been buying flour and learning how. So far most of it has been edible. Sour dough is my next mountain to climb, I have some sour dough starter fermenting and soon I’ll be making my first loaf.

I’m planning to make my own sourdough bread and rolls as well. It will be not only be cheaper but tastier too!
I also bake my own bread… it is super easy!
3-1/2 cups flour, 1 packet yeast (or 2-1/4 tsps), 1 cup warm water, 2 tsps sugar, 1 tsp salt, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or lard).
Knead for 5 to 10 mins, let it rise for 1 hr in covered bowl (put some oil in bowl).
Flatten dough, fold one end in to middle then other end over top, smoosh down, turn so short end is facing you, roll tightly, tuck ends under, let rise on pan for 1 hr covered by cloth.
Pre-heat oven to 450F, (I usually put the baking tray on top of stove while oven warms).
Once dough has risen, take a razor blade and do three or four diagonal slashes, sprinkle flour over it. Turn oven down to 425F, put pan of water/ice in bottom of oven. Bake bread for 30 to 35 mins. I use this same recipe for bread, sub rolls, hamburger rolls.
I got a kit for making sour dough which is my next adventure. (Large mason jar for starter, basket to let dough rise and a cast iron/enamel casserole dish to bake it in).
8 oz of cheese is now 6.4 oz. NOT HAPPY.
Same with candy bars!
