Biography: One half of the famous Broadway musical and songwriting team of Rodgers and Hart with composer Richard Rodgers. Together the wrote for 26 Broadway shows (including “Jumbo”, “Babes In Arms”, and “Pal Joey”), and several movies between 1919 and 1943.
Some of the pair’s most enduring songs include: “I Wish I Were In Love Again,” “My Funny Valentine,” “Where Or When,” “The Lady is a Tramp,” “I Didn’t Know What Time It Was,” “It Never Entered My Mind,” “Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered,” and “I Could Write a Book”.
Hart battled depression and alcoholism, and died after contracting pneumonia during a binge following the death of his mother and Rodgers finding Oscar Hammerstein more reliable to work with.

Biography: The youngest-ever person elected President at age 43, Kennedy assumed office at the height of the Cold War. As such his time in office was spent managing relations with the communist states.
In 1961 Kennedy approved the failed Bay of Pigs invasion in an attempt to overthrow the communist-aligned regime of Fidel Castro. A year later the discovery of Soviet nuclear weapons in Cuba caused the Cuban Missile Crisis, which was eventually resolved peacefully.
In other affairs Kennedy sent advisers to Vietnam and launched America into the Space Race with his famous “we choose to go to the Moon” speech in 1963. While he supported the Civil Rights Movement he was not successful in getting many of his New Frontier policies passed by Congress.
On November 22, 1963, he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald, and was succeeded by Lyndon B. Johnson.

New Zealand aviator (first-ever solo flight from England to New Zealand in 1936), dies at 73
Biography: Jean Batten set several long-distance flight records in the 1930s. She became famous for her solo flights between England and Australia, and later for her flight from England to New Zealand.
Batten’s interest in flying began at age 18 when she read about Charles Lindbergh’s transatlantic flight. She moved to England to learn to fly, facing initial setbacks and skepticism. Charles Kingsford Smith, a famous Australian aviator, dismissed her ambitions, but this only strengthened her resolve.
In May 1934, Batten successfully flew solo from England to Australia, setting a new women’s record. She continued to break records, becoming the first woman to fly solo from England to South America in 1935. Her most notable achievement came in 1936 with her flight from England to New Zealand in “Percival Gull Six” aircraft.
Batten’s mother, Ellen, played a significant role in her life, often accompanying her on tours and managing her public image. During World War II, Batten worked in the munitions industry after her application to join the Air Transport Auxiliary was rejected.
After the war, Batten lived a reclusive life, traveling in Europe and the Caribbean with her mother. She briefly returned to public life in 1969 to attend aviation events and promote her republished autobiography, “My Life” (1938).
Batten’s later years were marked by mystery. She died alone in a hotel room in Mallorca in 1982, but her death went undiscovered for five years. Auckland Airport’s international terminal is today named in her honor.

This is Ruth Paine. She’s a CIA agent who was Lee Harvey Oswald’s handler for the Kennedy assassination (Lee was a patsy). Ruth is STILL ALIVE and one of the main reasons why the JFK files are still sealed. This is a supremely evil human being.

On November 22, 1963, I was in 6th grade, and I will never forget when our teacher announced that JFK had been shot. She told us first and then made a PA announcement to the whole school because she was the school Principal as well as the teacher.
On September 11, 2001, I was in a 6th grade classroom again, but this time I was the teacher and had to share that news with my students.
What I remember most about both incidents was the feeling I had – that the world had changed, and things would never be the same again. My innocence was lost- both times.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. A few days ago Garrison expressed the concern of some women he knows who fear today’s violence. I could not then follow the discussion or respond, but as I recall there was back and forth re: self defense – which might include arming oneself.
I was born in Detroit. I survived the 1967 riots, even though being shot at was happening outside the riot area. You might remember that Detroit was the Murder Capitol of the USA for a long time.
I write today to share with you some of my survival techniques.
First of all, learning physical self defense techniques is invaluable. Buying and learning how to shoot a gun sounds like a good plan. But consider this: even folks I know who ‘shoot’ are not sure they could or would fire the gun at another human being. Especially with the recommendation that if you shoot, shoot to kill. A wounded animal (a person) is very dangerous.
A more basic problem is – how do you fumble in your purse for your gun (or mace) when you are under attack? Or do you carry your gun in your hand when in a scary location? Do you assume anyone around you in a public place might attack you?
I have a similar thought re: self defense. Can you imagine yourself using the heel of your hand to shove your attacker’s nose into his brain? If you were to learn martial arts techniques remember this from Doc – a good big man will always beat a good small man. Imagine you going up against Walker, Texas Ranger. The other side of that coin: you will not know in advance if your attacker knows how to defend against your defense.
First of all, even though today’s fear mongering news highlights attacks, the chance that you will be attacked is not high. So, other than being careful and aware of people around you, how do you avoid being hurt or killed? Re: aware of people around you, it’s not easy to determine whether they would come to your defense, or if one or more of them might attack you. Troublesome considerations fer shur.
I remember a news item from 1967: kids, 9 yr old or younger, used a rusty can top to rob retirees of their newly cashed checks $. How the heck can an older person defend against that kind of treachery? The only thing I can think of is ‘plan ahead’. Don’t put yourself in a vulnerable position if it can be avoided.
A biggie for me – NEVER walk up to my house or car door without having my key in my hand, pointed towards the lock. A key can inflict enough pain that you have a chance to yell and run. A knee or kick, a step on a foot, a well placed punch might achieve a good result too. Knowing these kinds of self defense moves are comforting – and you hope you never have to use them. Next question: will refresher courses be needed?
Another safety thought: drive with your car doors locked. If you leave your car at a gas station pump or a parking lot – lock the doors. Um, you wouldn’t walk away from you car with the motor running or the key in the ignition, even to insert the gas filler knob, would you?
I dunno about keyless entry. It would be OK if you could open the door, get inside and re-lock immediately. But what do you do if your hands and arms are busy with Christmas gift boxes or grocery bags? Again, even if you are armed – your gun won’t be at the ready for defense. Plan Ahea d.
Speaking of locking your car, I picked up this goody a while back. Don’t walk away from your car then lock it with your key fob. Thieves lurk with devices that scan your fob frequency. While you are shopping they steal your waiting gifts.
I hope I have given you some good food for thought. We Treepers live and work in a wide variety of places. That means we each have to evaluate our differing circumstances in order to develop safety measures.
There is no one-size-fitzall.

Thank you for your info. I try to stay cautious when I’m out shopping. I always drive with doors locked. When gasing, I lock the car with the door lock when exiting. Luckily, I can unlock driver’s door with my key. My only problem is I can’t unlock only the rear hatch with my key or fob. So I unlock with the fob, open the hatch and re lock the car after putting my purse in the front seat. So, with my car and purse secured, keys in my pocket, I can unload my buggy, close the hatch and return the buggy. I don’t go out alone at night unless it can’t be helped. Then I’m extra vigilant and watchful.

Your caution has served you well. Re the fob – I consider its use a potential hazard if you then go into the store or into home, leaving theeves time to rob the car..
The other point I was making – night time is not necessarily the problem time.
With 80+ years under my belt, so to speak, I don’t know how my own defense needs have changed. Eastern Idaho is different from Detroit, and easy / short walk access to store and doctors offices are surely safer – ha ha. Still, the old habits persist.
Like you I live in a rural place in North Cental Mississippi. I don’t ever fob lock my car anywhere anymore whether here locally or in a more popular area, like Memphis where our doctors are.
Age wise I’m not far behind you so I understand the defense needs being different. I’m not proficient with weapons although I do know how to shoot. Last time my husband and I went to the range he had me try his pistol. The kick dislocated my thumb. Big owie for a week.

Timely. One of my car remotes battery has just died and I’m afraid to open the fob and R&R the battery. For fear I wont be able to get the darn thing properly closed LOL.
It’s not as easy as one would expect or hope 🙂 I realize that’s a lotta “fear” for a key fob!
But it balances the fact I have ZERO concerns my POTUS is making the decisions that are best and will allow his agenda to proceed. Unfettered or burdened by the mistakes made when he was under 24/7 attacks in terms one and two ( yes, I think he is still CiC! ) and soon his third term begins 🙂

Turns out I actually had a cpl new batteries already in my D C and A collection though these are the little round lithium one ( CR 2032 if anyone needs to know LOL ) and…
Setting aside my fear and trepidation searched and found a 2 minute YT clip and armed with a flathead driver –
I opened it and new battery and closed it voila! It works 🙂
But I wanted to really say HI as a former CA denizen San Diego I think is far different than the LA/Hollywood scene/geography. Yes, it’s all surreal and now being so removed and with so many friends associates you name it all in the rearview mirror – well, it’s almost as if I didnt live it at all.

Our living complex residents have cars parked nearby. Every time I hear that little horn beep I know it was a fob lock. I want to run out and say ‘dont’ DO that’. Its not that its a danger here, but you know they’ll be headed to Salt Lak City for Christmas shopping. Takes a while to learn a new habit (smile) Hit the door lock on my way out is the way to go.

Here’s another easy one, they also carry machines around to scam your credit card numbers. They just have to walk up next to you. If you wrap your card in tin foil, all of them, it acts as a faraday bag and prevents them from doing it. A small inconvenience to protect the pain in the a** it will be to deal with one’s card being scammed.

I can still remember my doctor telling me that the shot was ‘safe and effective’ and he had had it himself. He also said it was selfish of me not to have it, as I was not willing to protect others. After he had finished talking very persuasively for 20 mins I thanked him for his opinion and said, ‘sorry I am not going to take it.’
I had already explained why I was not going to take it., I had read up on it and had some reasons that made the so-called vaccine unacceptable to me. He brushed off my reasons and said what I had heard was untrue. (It wasn’t.)
He has never mentioned it since but I sometimes wonder what he thinks about those shots now, four and a half years later.
The PP thread is fraught with unease and bickering today.
I’m still “new(ish)” so not sure if that’s “normal” or not. Either way, it’s disheartening.

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.

Only here for a few minutes. Time is at a precious premium. Savannah is well and thankfully on Fall break from online school. She loves it. Had some pretty contentious grades… really rough… not doing well. I see the havoc that was heaped from dysfunctional special ed. She loves school. Tries damn hard. Wasn’t getting good grades in Algebra 2 – Algebra 1 was 3 years ago and too many steps forgotten – sequencing and building blocks lost. Tutoring has a waiting list – so many kids are suffering the educational decline. However, today she got a 94% on her session 6 test. She feels like a million bucks and she hustled and studied – I pray more of that.
She’s doing great in Govt & Econ – and slaying Christian Apologetics. That’s my girl.
As our dear friend here would say, “Trust God, fear not!”
The kittens go in on Monday for spaying – so will have two simultaneously convalescing. Have a big kennel and purchased a portable pop tent for the other kitty girl. Gotta keep ’em separated – and not climbing around – for a week. Purchased them little onesy’s to prevent them from going after the sutures in case the e-collars don’t work – which they won’t! These kittoes are going to rip those suckers clean off their heads. LOL
We are ready for combat. Send tequila.
