Biography: Henry Draper was an American physician and amateur astronomer who made key contributions to astrophotography in the late 19th century. He is best known for capturing early photographs of celestial objects like the Orion Nebula and the spectrum of Jupiter.
Draper came from a family with a strong scientific background, as his father John William Draper was a respected doctor and professor at NYU who took the first photograph of the moon in 1840.
Henry initially followed in his father’s footsteps, graduating from NYU School of Medicine in 1857 and working as a physician. Like his father, however, Draper had an interest in astronomy and increasingly turned towards this in the 1870s.
He ultimately resigned from his medical position at NYU in 1873 to focus on astrophotography, capturing groundbreaking images like the first photograph of the Orion Nebula in 1880 using an 11-inch telescope at his private observatory in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
Draper’s photographs provided valuable new insights into stars and nebulae, and his work was widely recognized by the scientific community. He received honorary degrees, a Congressional medal for directing a U.S. expedition to photograph the 1874 transit of Venus, and was elected to prestigious societies like the National Academy of Sciences.

Can I just say how incredibly remarkable it has been that the political left effectively ceded the use and imagery of nothing less than the US FLAG to the MAGA movement and the political right over the past x # of years? This includes use of words like “patriot”. Stunning.
Look, I know there were many ingredients that combined to make this election possible, but there was always a part of me that found this above absolutely remarkable.

People WANT to love the country in which they reside, not hate it. Especially here in the USofA.
The politics of divisive hate were destined to lose, in the end.
Hillary was not supposed to lose. Once she did, the die was cast. Trump was ALWAYS going to expose the swamp, in part by making a giant target of himself.
Is there any doubt, with the benefit of hindsight, that this man knew he might literally get killed attempting to do all he has set out to do? A billionaire, who stood to lose everything….a lifetime of work….whose only motive was love of God, country, and his fellow countrymen.
He made himself a target, because he knew they were targeting the rest of us.
Honestly, it echoes the majesty of the King of kings…
…whose own return will bring shouts of joy from those he loves and who love him, but trembling fear in his enemies.

The sky is red TO THE WEST of my Indiana Home this morning at sunrise. While everyone is talking about the bomb cyclone out to NW, we have our own forming and barreling down lake Michigan as I write this. The Euro shows the feature forming an eye east of Milwaukee Thursday.
Do not be surprised if this turns out to be a major weather event with higher winds and heavier snows than are forecast. Areas of likely highest impact are the N 1/3 of Indiana, SW corner of MI. Keep watching for those in the areas mentioned.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

His ways are not our ways nor His thoughts
Without discernment we remain tied in knots
The answer to what is plaguing us
Is found in His Word and rightly thus
We think we can flourish all on our own
Taught this from childhood until we are grown
We wonder why we continue to fail
Our sacred source sadly of no avail
We lean on our own understanding
Knowledge is rarely ever expanding
We have no clue how to reach higher
Wisdom eludes we’re left in the mire
We must trust in God with all our hearts
From whom knowledge initially imparts
From knowledge comes the understanding
And wisdom erupts ever commanding
What is it that brings us life and success
With what ability does God rightly bless
The conviction of Faith in things unseen
The assurance of things hoped and have been
So if our leaning is all on our own
We miss out on what Faith has truly shown
We miss God’s vast unconditional love

I’ve been quietly asking my women friends what they think about arming themselves. I never push, I just gently ask. The resulting conversations are interesting—almost all of my women friends report a higher frequency of potentially dangerous encounters than I’ve ever experienced. I knew my late wife was wary of the upper parking lot at her school (she taught night classes). But until I began asking, I had no idea how dangerous our daily lives are becoming — especially for women. Deciding to arm oneself is a huge decision, one that is not lightly made. That said, I am a firm believer in the NRA’s advice on the matter of self protection: I you find yourself in danger, it is always better to have a gun. Larkin Reilly had great courage and I grieve for her . If only she had been armed . . .

I qualified to teach gun safety many years ago, and though I don’t do it officially now, I do try to educate women in particular about the need for self protection if they feel comfortable about it. I carry every day everywhere I am allowed.
I took call for the hospital where I worked, and often left in the wee hours of the morning – armed. I have had occasion to draw my weapon, and fortunately did not have to fire. Very sobering. Keep up your good works. ❤️
