Supposedly the CO2 comes from distilling corn into alcohol. It takes 26 pounds of corn and 3 gallons of water to make a gallon of ethanol. It also take a whole lotta energy.
The energy needed to distill 1 gallon of ethanol is equivalent to 0.8 gallons of gasoline (GGE or gas-gallon-equivalent).
So it takes nearly 1 gallon of fuel to generate a gallon of fuel. But it’s worse – a car running ethanol is only 80% efficient running ethanol. So — it takes more energy to make ethanol than we get back out!
Ethanol is a complete and utter waste of energy*. If that con game is not bad enough, now they are going to charge even more for the federally-mandated ethanol in order to pay these con artists to “sequester” the CO2.
