First, President Trump has announced his nomination of South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Keeping in mind that Tom Homan is already assigned the one task that Governor Noem would not like to be responsible for, controlling the border and deporting illegal aliens. Both matters are of interest to the Big Ag industry back home.
So, with a streamlined responsibility portfolio, at DHS Noem would be more focused on national security matters that are not tied to border security. The types of national security issues that Noem has a tendency to frame around constitutional freedoms, liberties, and the removal of systems that directly restrict the rights of Americans. Something, shall we say, directly in her wheelhouse.
Simultaneously, this appointment opens the door for Senator John Thune to return to South Dakota and run for Governor. This possibility directly fits into the wish list of his wife Kimberly Thune, together they have grandkids now. The family dynamic caused Senator Thune to seriously contemplate retiring two-years ago.
From 2021 – “during a casual discussion at Crossroads Book & Music, a Sioux Falls store that sells Christian books and items, he seemed weary. If he runs and wins, he noted, it means a six-year commitment. [Thune] said his wife Kimberley wants him to come home. “She is done with it,” Thune said.
At the time Thune seriously was thinking about retiring, the opportunity for Senate Leadership was just as well-known as it is today. As we sit here on the eve of the Senate leadership vote, perhaps a discussion with President Trump about helping Thune return to Sioux Falls for a run at the governorship would fulfill an objective on many levels.
Noem’s early exit could create a special election, and with a full-throated Trump endorsement, Thune would be a shoo-in despite some opposition from the grassroots. Perhaps an insurance MAGA rally or two on Thune’s behalf would be too good to pass up.
Now we enter the real chess game. With Rubio removed from SSCI Chair, there’s an opening for a senior member of the Senate Intel Committee to assume that pretty cushy and important Gang of Eight job.
John Cornyn is a senior member of that SSCI committee, who also happens to be running for Senate Majority Leader.
If Thunes take the carrot of South Dakota Governor, and Cornyn takes the consolation carrot of SSCI Chairman, who does that leave for Senate Leader?

Seeing the “secret” vote last week to replace Mitch I noticed that Cornyn voted for himself while Thune voted for Cornyn. Allegedly.
Yes. My first thought was that it meant Thune was the spoiler and Cornyn was the one the Turtle wanted.
To maintain the illusion of choice, Mitch was wily enough to offer Senators two choices; both anti Trump, Mitch boot lickers.
The spoiler is actually Trumps guy, Florida Senator Rick Scott, who surprised Team Mttch by announcing that he was running for Mitch’s Senate Leadership job too.
One day, hopefully, we will be able to have a list of decent and qualified people to choose from for these positions just because they are the best at performing the duties associated with it. Strategic manipulation, to fight off the evil and corrupt progression (that has used similar strategic manipulation to advance itself), is currently a necessity.
Unfortunately, it may always be.
President Trump doesn’t pursue the perfect (as the saying goes it is often the enemy of the good), he pursues the Optimal; the best result achievable in the current situation.
In this case, President Trump is used to working around his cabinet since the Senate slow walked his appointments and prevented recess ones.
A Senate Majority Leader who legitimately owes him, is probably worth more to his agenda than the SecState (worked around through trade reps as his foreign relations focus is economic) and DHS (already has a czar established for its primary mission).
Just getting a few recesses into the schedule would allow President Trump to put so many people into place quickly. And with the prospect of more Supreme Court openings, a more favorable Senate leadership could be persuaded to let actual Constitutionalist justices through.
It’s not perfect, but its likely optimal.

Rick Scott pushed the FL school safety bill after Parkland as governor. The bill that included red flag laws, created a massive surveillance system that geofences, flags children, watches social media, pulls data from many other govt agencies on children, pours money into mental health in schools which funds SEL (a Marxist program). Kids are also monitored (and can be flagged and reported on) for everything they type on digital tests and on apps they are forced to use in and out of school.
Parents don’t see whats collected, or created by these systems, they have no idea!

I think it may be possible that the Thune-to-SD Governor deal may let Scott win without Cornyn getting the Intel Committee. I’m in Tennessee, and we had a development last evening that could lend credence to that. Senator Blackburn, who we just re-elected, had said she was going to support Thune. She has heard for large numbers of constituents in the last two days urging her to vote for Scott and call for a non-secret vote. Then this just came out last evening:

There has never been effective oversight of the NSA’s bulk collections programs, or indeed, intelligence agencies in general. There’s been a lot of noise made about this vaunted oversight in defense of programs revealed by leaked documents, but this is nothing more than a talking point.
At The Big Picture, a clip of Sen. John D. Rockefeller (then Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence) discussing how oversight actually works has been posted. It’s from an interview given in 2007, about the time the FISA Amendments Act was being put together to replace the expiring Protect America Act. The amendments act, among other things, extended the length of warrantless surveillance and gave telecoms retroactive immunity for their participation in the NSA’s bulk collections.
Here’s Sen. John D. Rockefeller explaining why, even back in 2007, intelligence agency oversight was a joke.
DAVIS: Reports quote administration officials as saying this is going on and it’s being done in a way to avoid oversight of the Intelligence Committee. Is there any way—
ROCKEFELLER: They’ll go to any lengths to do that, as we’ve seen in the last two days [during hearings on FISA].
DAVIS: Is there anything you could do in your position as Chairman of the Intelligence Committee to find answers about this, if it is in fact going on?
ROCKEFELLER: Don’t you understand the way Intelligence works? Do you think that because I’m Chairman of the Intelligence Committee that I just say I want it, and they give it to me? They control it. All of it. ALL of it. ALL THE TIME. I only get – and my committee only gets – what they WANT to give me.

Have said since 2008 that most of the people supporting the American Globalist have or are being blackmailed or bribed When of no use anymore, they get thrown under the bus with release of the blackmail material or worse a body bag.

Trump is a classic 1970’s Democrat. We’re lucky he won this round, but don’t bet on him gutting unconstitutionally created bureaucracies. Installing more swamp creatures into authority isn’t going to do much to change things. Flame away but I’m right and we all know it.
He’s got a mandate and maybe 2 years to implement what we demanded. The GOP will drag and delay until Democrats can take back Congress and move forward with the global agenda.
