Actually, her name is Donna Degan. Her husband has long been the weatherman in Jax. Is a surfer. The couple was very well known and loved by everyone. She has had cancer and was a runner. Yearly marathons for cancer on tv. When she ran for Mayor, I was confused, because I’m solidly a conservative but liked the couple so thought maybe she would have some conservative leanings?? But if I lived there, I still would have voted RED haha.
I live a few mere blocks from her, know who she is and know the dynamics here.
They are well known but she is only loved by the left here, not ‘everyone’ by a long shot, to include in her own neighborhood.
In the local eating/drinking establishments in our neighborhood, she is the constant butt of jokes, to include by moral ladies, supposedly her fan base.
The midpoint of that marathon (the Donna) runs 1 block from me every year.
Her current marriage is and was a huge scandal as she was running around with the weatherman on her husband’s back while married.
With exception to a few solid dem precincts, almost all the down ballot in that race went to Republicans as had been precedent.

Harris was a horrible candidate. Frankly, I would be worried as hell had the Democrats picked Gretchen Whitmer. Policy wise she’s no better than Harris, but she’s a better politician and would be able to present herself as a “moderate”.

Harris is one of the worst retail politicians I’ve ever seen in my life. It defies belief. Every time I think “she can’t be this bad!” … she gets worse. With all the lying about Biden’s health, the putsch, selecting her as the candidate, with her incredible baggage and unlikeability, and the economic headwinds the incumbent party is facing, this election shouldn’t even be remotely close. Trump should take 62-65% of the PV and deliver a 1972-style electoral blowout.
If the Dems ever lose their monopoly on institutions that shape opinion (academia, media, entertainment, tech, social media) that’s what will happen. They’re the reason it’s this close.
