My friends took me to a very “Mexican” tawueria. It serves some very tasty food made in the style of Mesxican street vendors. . . sizable quantities of, in my case, chorizo sausage piled on top of small corn tortillas. Your pretty much expected to eat Mexican style street tacos with your fingers . . . (Really). At least, as I looked around, that’s what everybody there was doing. Didn’t see much of Tink last night. Sometimes she prefers to curl up in her secret places (like behind the gas stove). I probably should have called to her but when my head hit the pillow, I was asleep. Got a solid 8hrs las night which was a bit unusual for me.

I had queso fundido yesterday that was scrumptious. Because of certain food restrictions, some self imposed, some not – mine had roasted mushrooms rather than chorizo, and corn tortillas rather than flour. But, that gooey cheese and mushrooms (with just a tad of guacamole on top) to die for!

Good information. Many common OTC and RX drugs come with a side order of dementia. PPI’s, SSRI’s, statins to name a few. I’m not saying they aren’t necessary or effective, but, be judicious.
I worked for many years in ophthalmology. When Mevacor was introduced, all patients underwent testing for macular degeneration every 6 months.
I started on a new asthma inhaler a few years back and had almost instant neuropathy in arms/hands and feet/legs. Of course, I immediately discontinued, but it took 6 months of pretty high dose natural supplements to completely irradicate it.
Sometimes, we have no choice in the matter unfortunately.
Thiamine, in its Benfotiamine form with time removed all trace of neuropathy.
NIH even has an article on claiming that there is an unrecognized epidemic of Thiamine deficit in the US.

I take Benfotiamine every day – it’s great for any nerve related issue, but especially neuropathy. In addition, alpha lipoic acid and acetyl-l-carnitine are really essential. I’ve heard neurologists say neuropathy is incurable – not so, thankfully.
Yes! Modern pharmaceutical drugs, especially the OTCs should only be used is the smallest amount possible and for the shortest time period, and only for things seriously interfering with life

I saw your last response to me from yesterday. The pie picture brought back a precious memory.
When I was little, my wonderful Mamaw, my Mom’s mother, had two black raspberry patches on the side of a hill in Eastern Kentucky. She was a tough, TOUGH country girl born (1906) and raised in a log cabin with 8 brothers and sisters. She could COOK!
Those black raspberries got used in different ways. When fresh picked they would be rinsed and lightly (or heavily!) doused with sugar and enjoyed.
Then, they got turned into one of the greatest things on earth to my brother and me, as well as our cousins. We just called it Mamaw’s jelly. It was always on the table waiting for us.
But she also made black raspberry cobbler. Your pie pic sorta reminded me of it. It was wonderful.
We lost her in 1999. Hurts to this day. I still miss her, and crave her cooking and treasure the memories of long ago.
When Mom and my precious Aunt were going through Mamaw’s cellar they found Mamaw’s jelly and divided it up between my brother and me and my two cousins.
They also found jars of black raspberries Mamaw had canned.
Mamaw wasted NOTHING. And she prepared and canned lots of food.
She was an excellent cook. If Mamaw couldn’t feed you she didn’t know what to do with you!
Last year Mom found the last jar of Mamaw’s black raspberries. She estimated they had been canned in the late 80’s to early 90’s since Mamaw had gone to Mom and Dad’s to live for the last 3 or 4 years of her life.
You may wonder if something canned in the late 80’s or early 90’s would still be good after perhaps as many as 35 years or more.
Oh, yes, they were still good!
Mom had one more chance to make a black raspberry cobbler the way Mamaw would have made it. It was wonderful, it was precious.
In a way………Mamaw helped feed us one last time.
Your picture helped bring back a precious, precious memory. Thanks for posting, and the thoughts you put with it.

I had two pies to choose from yesterday. I stared at them both, deciding which to one to leave for you. I think Someone else made the selection. You’ve written of her grandmother before, and I was captivated by your memories then. Even more so now. The loving picture you paint of her brought back memories of my own of my mother in law and her sisters, all excellent cooks, who collected the recipes of their mothers, aunts and grandmothers, spent years deciphering and testing them, then published them in a multi printed cookbook they entitled “Bounty on the Brazos”.
The thing they did with it which made it special was that they added well remembered vignettes about the women whose recipes they included. And as sharp, understated humour infused every aspect of their lives (an English teacher amongst the five of them) the whole cookbook was a veritable family history in every way….love and laughter the two major ingredients in every recipe they included.
So I am reading your beautiful post honouring your wonderful MaMaw and understanding how deeply she loved her family (always making sure there was jelly for you and your brother) and feeling a bit misty eyed myself….okay, a lot misty eyed…
I have reached an age when memories such as yours are fare in this house every day. They don’t come free of charge…the price being many times an ache of missing which come with them and which you describe so well, dear friend.
But a price worth paying, right? For having had such a woman in your life, one who is living still through you…that gift who keeps on giving. And I am so glad, so glad that you shared her with us. Hoping there are more such memories coming in the future, as the mood takes you. This one brightened my Sunday, Greg…and I truly thank you for it 😌😘

I have just been through my copy of”Bounty on the Brazos” and have found a couple of those vignettes I mentioned.
This one precedes a recipe in the hors d’oeuvre section (or as the authors called it jokingly the horses’ d’oeuvres)…
“The Not-So-Great Books Foundation was organized as some not-so-ambitious readers’ prototype of the Great Books Foundation. We all read the same book at the same time, and each month meet to have a real gossip session about the characters in the books. In the early days of the club we served coffee and desserts only, but as our avoirdupois increased, we switched to wine and dips. We might add that when the refreshments changed, the discussions changed in tone considerably.”
And my favourite!! The “Betsy ” in this one is not me, but rather a wonderful elegant woman, one of the authors, who would cook for 20 in full Sunday go to meetin’ attire with a glass of wine to sustain her…and look as fresh as a daisy doing it…and after. The consummate hostess…
“Aunt Madeline and Lize worked each Christmas season to make all kinds of sweetmeats, beginning their activities immediately after Thanksgiving. Lep cakes were one of their specialities and they took immense pride in their perfection. They packed many boxes of candies and sweets to send to various friends.
Among those whom Aunt Madeline remembered was Mrs Tom Connally who would write and thank her profusely. In her later years, when she’d misplaced her glasses, Madeline asked Betsy to read the annual ” thank you” to a small gathering, which Betsy did.
As a P.S. she read , “Oh, and by the way, the lep cakes were not quite up to par this year.”
Aunt Madeline was incensed – until she realized that Betsy had ad-libbed the post script.”
And so now I find myself going through this thick cookbook looking for those stories which always make me laugh…grabbing a few tissues before I start.
I now have something in MY eyes!!! Much of your story is the same as my grandmother. They lived through the depression. By the way, I think if you do a search on YouTube there are recipes for depression cooking. I was enthralled and saved some (one never knows these days)! I miss my mom, my dad, my grandmother, 2 uncles and the list goes on. ♥️

There is nothing more precious and valuable than your sweet memories, especially of loved ones no longer here.
My grandmother could turn anything into shoe leather! But…….as a young widow, she raised two young daughters on her own, in the depths of the Depression, put herself through college, and became a teacher. She managed to buy a modest home and even send the girls to college till WWII came along.
My visits to her home, on the side of a mountain in Vermont, as a child, and as the mother of two young kids myself, were almost magical. Gramma had more knowledge in her little finger, and the ability to impart it than anyone I ever met. I literally miss her every day – and she’s been gone almost 50 years.
Last week, my youngest grandson, who is 20, and has Aspergers, suddenly asked me if I had stories of his grandpa (my dad) specifically of his time during the war. He listened in rapt attention as I related a few, and I was so gratified that not only Grandma’s but his memory would not be forgotten.

They are waiting to hear if he will be placed on the transplant waiting list. They have been through all the preliminaries…tests, interviews, etc. Things are moving fast, and when I asked Caroline on Brian’s last hospitalization how it was, when they were given to understand that the process to qualify wouldn’t begin for a while, that they were going through it, she said, “I don’t know, Mom. They just suddenly appeared in his room one morning with no notice.”
In the meantime, doctors have refined the regime he is now on, always subject to change (it really is like walking on a tightrope), so that he is still uncomfortable but not in pain (Glory to God!!!!🙏🏻). They even managed to attend a Lyle Lovett concert the other night for which Caroline had bought tickets long ago before all this started (Brian has always wanted to see him) and made it halfway through. Progress!!!
So yes, yes!! The prayers of so many friends are being answered. And though the ultimate outcome is indeterminate, the waters are being parted. They are so grateful. I am grateful beyond measure. Blessings big and small abound now, with more to come in ways that all future blessings do. Unseen for the moment but assuredly on their way. Hallalujah! 🙏🏻💕

Israel Update:
-I would like to mainly clarify some things about yesterday’s attack in Iran and I have some awesome videos about it that will follow.
I called it “dardale” (“dar-da-le” , an Israeli word for “weak”, “wimpy”).
Now that some time passed by and I know more, I can tell that it’s not completely dardale, there are some very smart aspects. It doesn’t give the spectacle like the burning Houthi oil refineries some months ago but it is something smart. Now, there is still a lot unknown and I can’t say that everything I say is 100% confirmed but I picked sources that are usually reliable.
There were three waves of attacks. There were over 100 airplanes involved.
Some attackers, some refueling, some protecting the refueling, some Intel airplanes that can detect radars and incoming threats, and for sure the Israeli satellite that had high definition capabilities and can detect targets and results after the attack. There were also a number of unmanned air vehicles that attack and our unit 669 (pilot rescue Special Force just in case).
As a note there is a historic aspect as there is a report that four women navigators participated in the attack.
First you need to know that in Israeli high command they are satisfied that it was a success and the goals of the operation were obtained.
What were the goals? First at the south west of Iran there was an attack on ground to air batteries that protect vital assets of Iran. In Israel there is a claim that all the advanced anti aircraft batteries of Iran were destroyed. They also destroyed batteries in Syria and Iraq.
I saw some reports that there was also a SAM400 anti aircraft missiles (most advanced missies battery) that was destroyed but it’s questionable if they actually have one.
I saw in another reliable source that Iran had 5 advanced batteries (SAM300) and Israel took out 4. This is likely correct. So it’s either all or most that was taken out. Realize that they count on it to defend everything. From the nuclear sites to the oil fields. The Israeli claim is that both the radars of the S300s and the actual batteries were destroyed.
If that is the case and I am pretty sure it’s either 100% or 90% , then it’s a major blow and leaves Iran pretty exposed. This also is an amazing chess move as :
1. They will have to think twice if they want to counter strike and give us a reason/legitimacy to go after the real “meat”.
2. The elections in the US are near and Israel can go after the nuclear sites soon enough before they replace it. That is if Trump wins. Trump supports an Israeli strike on the nuclear sites.
3. Israel now has a full air superiority on Iranian skies. Their air force is very weak and not a challenge anyways.
As a note: Israel waited for this day for decades, a day we have to fly to Iran.
So the F16 was upgraded with a special order to an F16i that can carry side gas tankers right on the sides of the main body and stronger engines. Only Israel has it. It flew to Iran now. The F35 is also an Israeli version that has better capability to go far with some trick to have larger gas tanks and yet maintain its stealth capabilities.
And the F15s are also an upgrade, Israeli version. And I didn’t mention that a lot of the internal electronics and electronic warfare is Israeli.
Back to the subject.
Also lower level anti aircraft batteries were destroyed.
Israel created a corridor from West Iran to Teheran and can use it to fly relatively freely.
Additionally I got a reliable report that the key and most hard to get and expensive machine that makes fuel for ballistic missiles were attacked in many locations possibly all ballistic missile factories. So their ability to produce new ballistic missiles is damaged.
And they don’t have that many. There are various estimates and it’s maybe a thousand or so. They can run out if there is a back and forth war.
The farthest target was 300km(186 Miles) east of Teheran which makes the farthest attack 2000km from Israel. That is 1,243 miles.
And I believe that that target was a secret facility of research and development that was related to the nuclear program. Apparently it is there where they may be developing a part that explodes on a nuclear weapon and accelerates the reaction and causes the nuclear blast. I saw a video of a damaged facility. Looks like a drone hit. A quarter of the facility is badly damaged, not beyond repair but will take a good number of months.
Another aspect of the attack was that it was done with trickery and somehow they managed to penetrate the Iranian Air space by deception despite of the massive preparations of the whole nation. We may never know for decades what was the deception exactly but Israeli Air Force has a long history of it. It is basically the founders of electronic deceptions that goes back to the 70s and was adopted by the US.
The whole invasion to Iraq was a copy of an old Israeli operation in Lebanon where they sent in many drones to make them activate their radars and then wiped out their air defenses anti aircraft batteries. That followed with almost 100 Syrian MIGs we shot down. I think I posted a video about it a while ago. A good video and I may post it again soon enough.
So now it’s over to the Iranians to give us a reason to strike the real meat and potatoes or we can do it if and when Trump gets elected. A win win situation so long as we are capable of striking the nuclear sites.
By the way I listened today to an interview with a retired Mossad high officer who was still without his face shown and he said that the reason Iran doesn’t have the nukes is that the Supreme Leader didn’t order it. They are a nuclear threshold nation. But it is not so simple to make the bomb. Can take a year or more. Therefore it is critical to have the Intel in case he orders it. This also makes me understand that a strike on the nuclear sites must be effective or it can trigger their leader to order a bomb. Apparently there is a religious reason why he is not ordering it but he is under pressure to let go. Also killing his son or demolishing his home can trigger him. His son is his successor. He is 84 years old. So you see that there are hidden factors why there are some restraint in dealing with him. Also a successor could be worse than him.
-Beirut got hit over 10 times and Hezbollah fired about 200 rockets at Israel with no casualties. We had another solider killed in South Lebanon RIP.
-Still a major operation in North Gaza. The IDF seems very aggressive. They get some 30-40 killed every day. Mainly terrorists. This time it was a facility that used to be a School.
I am sure that the policy, aside from cleaning up the area is to break them and make them more interested in giving the hostages back. All attacks are based on Intel. While Hamas can promote a massacare Israel usually can present names of tens of terrorists who were taken out at each location.
-Iran is now more and more directly involved in the war. They took high command positions over Hezbollah. I see on billboards in Teheran psychological warfare in Hebrew.
The latest was a huge image of many hostages with blood on their faces with Hebrew writing “You will never get them back”. One of the hostages in the picture with bood on the face was the baby hostage. Gross. Kamenahi their Supreme Leader is also posting on Twitter Hebrew psychological warfare this old Nazi leader. Posts about destroying Israel in Hebrew.

My whole point is to make my American and non Israeli brothers and sisters more informed than others and avoid the various agendas of journalists. I am working as a temporary poll worker in liberal Laguna Beach, California. Yesterday was our opening day and I was pleasantly surprised to find that a majority of first day voter being Republican and one was told to remove her glitzy Trump cap before voting. just checked my bird book: “look for the white eye ring”, and they’re the “second smallest in MI”, so that would also help differentiate from the goldfinch.
Their wings are marked similar to a finch but a smaller body. I too had to refer to my bird book to ID her.
Can’t make a positive ID from this pic. Had a wave sprinkler under our Chinese Pistache a couple of months ago and this bird seemed to be bathing and rubbing against the wet leaves.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

today was the last sermon on the study of the book of revelation … the last book in the bible .. the study began in March .. and has taken almost every sunday morning service since then, to complete.. somewhere in the middle during this timeframe.. one morning pastor read that line of scripture.. and as an aside, said he believes that there will be special blessings
in heaven for those that profess that in their daily lives …. jwoo immediately came to my mind then … just like again today, as pastor was reading the next to the very last verse ..

Well Annie, in the furtherance of today’s synchronicities I chatted briefly with a neighbor on a short walk ( when not on my twig here 🙂 and they told me that were in point of fact “ready to see Jesus”! That’s a direct quote.
While I smiled and in reply, I said to them I planned on hanging around a bit longer ( they’ve got maybe 15-20 years on me 🙂 ) but that, yes sir, I told ’em!
My home’s in Heaven, I’m going there.

Annie, I know you know this – but, we’re all different. (Thank God)

No one is better than another.
God has wired each of us as He sees fit – giving us various abilities to use in His kingdom.
And the Lord is the only One we should please as we invest what we’ve been given.
It’s hard, and it’s human – I know … but we should not compare ourselves, or our writing, or anything to another.
Words typed on-line are simply “words.”
We can make them “say” a lot – but, truthfully, we are not known by our words.
But by what we DO – and how we live our lives.
None of us have any idea what really goes on behind the screen.
Only the Lord sees that. And He sees you, Annie … His precious child.
Just wanted to encourage you, Annie … you’re a delightful gal, and I’m happy to see your posts!

I love you, dearest friend and sister. You need to know.
I am returning your comforting intercession with our Father for me with my own for you. Asking Him to bring you health and a peace so profound that you will feel His presence every single minute.
Being the Southern lady that you are and thus have always exhibited a reticence in speaking of your own trials, I would in no way ask anything of them. If I am, however wrong in my assumption, please forgive me.

I’ve noticed a lot of interest in Appalachian culture lately.
A number of years back, I happened to read a book by author Sharyn McCrumb. She wrote a lot of novels set in Appalachia with a lot about the history and culture along with the mysteries.
The books are a little bit “lighter” reading than what I usually chose, but after I read the one I went back and read others in the series, and when I recommended them to my mother so did she.
They are an easy way to learn about the area.
They are, as our Colkitto here, calls them “Heritage Americans”. I think that’s right. Part of mine too.
I have these books – Foxfire series – about Appalachian culture, and it’s wonderful reading.
An education, for sure.

Coal mining wow. They give ’em 30 years at the very most. They come up for air, then die. Whew.

Given I know so little of the KY side of my family – I love seeing anything that has Appalachian people and dirt in it 🙂
I have family tree on some branches back to the 1500s. I got the history and records and was doing it before Ancestry (crooks) was a thing. I highly recommend looking into yours, but verifying with records. Many go on to Ancestry and copy from other trees, where mistakes are regularly made by others copying from others’ trees, resulting in a paid subscription full of lies. One’s family history, and history itself, I think, are very important to know.
