Have a pleasant evening, dear Bet. I’m staying up a bit later than usual, reading about the “old days” of Road & Track and Car & Driver magazines. Those magazines and the people who wrote for them were very influential in my young life.
A dyslexic, I was always a little out-of-phase with conventional schooling. To compensate I closely followed the authors who were being published in those magazines. Studying how they wrote, how they pulled together ideas and how they then presented them as “copy” was how I educated myself. David E. Davis, one of the more famous writers and editors, became my writer role-model.
Basically DED taught me how to write. My English teachers, much to their complete surprise, were amazed at how, at about age 14, this kid who couldn’t spell even simple words, suddenly began writing exceptionally well.

Didn’t learn to read until I was about 9. My parents found a retired 20’s teacher from JoshDewey’s time who taught phonics. She had me reading effectively in one summer’s vacation time.
A friend of mine is dyslexic. He struggled also. SO glad your parents got you the help that you needed! Educated, compassionate teachers are SO important! We need to pay them more, so more are attracted to the job, then fire the crazy riff raff that appear to have infiltrated our schools…
Gosh, you reminded me of the interview Ben Carson did with Tucker Carlson wherein he spoke about how when he went to med school he came within a whisker of flunking out (if you can imagine).
He attended all the lectures, but for some reason the lessons weren’t making their way into his brain. So he analyzed why this was…and then started reading the books alone, ignoring (so to speak) the lecturer.
He knew the forum which suited him best. No problem after that. We all know where he ended up.

Not sure you will see this, but, I just added a supplement to my nightly quest for sleep. It’s called Apigenin. It is a bioflavonoid that is naturally found in chamomile, parsley, and celery. I just started on it, but I think it is helpful at least to some degree. 😴 💤 🛏 ❤️
Have you tried a cup of chamomile tea before bed? If yes, never mind, if no, I know that has helped many.

Yes, I actually have. I like it and it does help somewhat. I do nicely on 4 hours of sleep, but, 1 or 2 is more usual. So, I keep trying different supplements and combinations of them.
Lately it’s melatonin, apigenin, thiamine, and l- tryptophan. Also, a glass of Port doesn’t hurt. 😉

Just downloaded a book regarding the intelligence of crows and ravens. They apparently also have great memories about their interactions with humans and can like you or even hold a grudge if you’ve gotten on their “wrong” side. We have 3 or 4 couples here – they mate for life.

That spraying in the skies is a great conversation starter. I stop people in parking lots, I ask my UPS guy and others making deliveries at my house, and I point skyward and ask them if they know what that white spraying is. Most do not know and nearly all want to know more.
People are looking DOWN at their phone and never bother to notice. Also, people younger then 30 have grown up getting used to the appearance of the trails and milky-white, barely blue sky and fake clouds that form from many of the trails.

Comedians from my past, and maybe you’re the same, didn’t work around feelings. Sometimes off color, but took equal jabs at everyone. People understood it was comedy and enjoyed the comic relief. Carson, Rickles, Dangerfield, The Rat Pack, Newhart, the list is long.
When comedy stopped being fun because of vulgarity, bias, and hate I tuned out. The Mrs. and I search out older, even black and white productions, because of their good clean fun.

Fortunately, I have perfected fighting and winning these battles for many years.
Whats the difference between Medical care and Healthcare?
Simple. Medical care is what every patient WANTS, when they go to a Dr or Hospital, but unfortunately Healthcare is what they mostly get.
Ironically, pretty much all who aspired to a medical profession, initially were drawn to the profession, to provide medical care, and many of them hate the healthcare system they are as stuck in, as their patients are.
I know this because as I force them to re-orient to medical care, many of them LIKE it,…not ALL, but many do.
anyway, doing fine but obviously not posting as many comments, probably giving adrem, etc. a nice break, lol.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

My Aunt Rosie down in Evansville was married to a hunter fisherman, ALCOA, man. Going to their house was always an adventure and my Uncle was a bit of a misogynist in what would be considered today, toxic masculinity. I was young and loved my Aunt, so I was her staunch defender.
Something I learned early was that when Rosie was cooking you always asked what was in the pots and pans before you partook. One morning, she was frying up pork brains and I dodged that bullet. They did try to trick me into eating rabbit once. Another morning, my Uncle placed a container of earth worms next to me as I was eating… I nonchalantly picked those suckers up and tossed them in the front yard. It was a love/hate relationship with that man.

Yes… to Braunschweiger, pate, chicharrónes (see exclusions below), various odd forms of sushi and sashimi, certain fermented vegetables, an occasional decent bologna, beef tongue (got talked into that one and was surprisingly impressed), and crustaceans that live in the sea.
No… to feet, brains, eyeballs (unless they were accidental in Mexican Barbacoa – could of happened, I found a cow tooth once), stomachs (can’t do menudo no matter how many spices I throw in it… ew… it just SMELLS like cow poo), anal sphincters, insects (except carmine which is cochineal and in Ocean Spray juices), lizards (except alligator… it’s okay), snakes (except rattlers… again it’s okay), spiders and land-dwelling arachnids, worms, grubs, and various decent children, and most of my old boyfriends.
You bring up that Huntsman spider again and I will lose my sophistication and hunt you down, Greg1!

They are dated 2004, and are not currently available from my food service provider, so no one in the ABQ NM area is buying them (yes I looked).
Labeling is unfamiliar to me, not in the format of any of my food service providers tho, or I would search the part #.
Just the fact that they are packaged for sale is a bit frightening as someone IS using them hopefully not for human consumption but …. who knows.
Best guess, they are available near where pork packing plants are located … they don’t throw them away.
Ya never know, they could become the next “Buffalo Wing”, as wings were dirt cheap way back when til “Buffalo” was invented, now they cost more per pound than a chicken breast (2.99/lb here retail), last I looked they were 125$ a 40lb (3.12/lb) case up from 60$ pre WuFlu, now you know why places are selling “boneless wings”, when people call and ask for boneless wings, I tell them you mean “chicken nuggets” …. NO, don’t sell them, mine are bone in.
I buy pre-cooked wings now, used to cook from raw, no money in it now @ that price since you lose about 50% to fat & water making my wings cost more per Lb than the pre-cooked & the labor involved for me to do it.
Not to mention, a 40 # case is only about 34# of wings and 6# of water they charge me for, I’ll digress at this point tho.

It’s disappearing I read owing to lack of requests. It’s very old school luncheon meat. Older even than “luncheon” to describe lunch lol.

The Biden administration warned Israel on Sunday that it has one month to implement significant improvements to the humanitarian situation in Gaza or risk the continued supply of US weapons.
In a letter to Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer obtained by The Times of Israel on Tuesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin say the past several months have seen a significant deterioration in the amount of aid entering Gaza.
The top US officials explain that such developments call into question Israel’s commitment not to restrict the entry of aid into Gaza and that it is using US weapons in line with international law.
That written commitment was provided last March in order to ensure Israel’s compliance with a National Security Memorandum (NSM) issued by US President Joe Biden in February. The memo applies to all recipients of US security assistance.
While Israel implemented a series of provisions to improve the flow of aid into Gaza after promising to do so in the spring, “the amount of aid delivered has dropped by more than 50 percent,” Blinken and Austin write, adding that the amount of aid that entered Gaza in September was the lowest of any month during the past year.
“To reverse the downward humanitarian trajectory and consistent with its assurances to us, Israel must — starting now and within 30 days — act on the following concrete measures,” they write, referring to several recommendations laid out later on in the letter.
“Failure to demonstrate a sustained commitment to implementing and maintaining these measures may have implications for U.S. policy under NSM-20 and relevant U.S. law,” the letter states.
The demands from Blinken and Austin focus on three categories: Increasing the supply of humanitarian aid by the start of winter; facilitating the aid delivery route through Jordan; and ending the “isolation” of northern Gaza.

“As a cruel addendum, the US is demanding that Israel cooperate more fully with the International Committee of the Red Cross when the ICRC has not once — NOT ONCE — visited the civilian hostages held in barbaric conditions by Hamas,” he added.
“Make no mistake here — this is just political gamesmanship by the Biden/Harris administration to pick up a few more votes among it’s woke supporters. It is a cynical but deadly gambit that will make a hostage deal even less likely and lead to more carnage and instability. Amateur hour!” Friedman said.

Good Afternoon all!
It’s 13:25 here and the temp is 46 deg. High is forecast to be in the low 50s.
No matter, I’m grilling ribeye steaks for dinner. Corn on the cob and baked potatoes will round out the meal.
This is only the 2nd time I have grilled since my stroke and for the first time since then I’m going to have a jack and coke.
Now on to a different and less pleasant subject:
I have been working through my cousin Ryan Green for 10 months to get Anderson City utilities to come out and tell me what it would cost to put 200 amp underground electric service in from the pole that sits between Steve’s place and mine and to confirm that my whole house generator was located as per code. IOW I started on this long before I even bought the generator and when they were finishing up the additions to the house last winter.
Finally the female engineer in charge of residential service came out. We decided how to configure the system and she promised me a quote for Monday the following week.
After over a month passed with no quote I have given up! I told Ryan on Monday just hook the generator up where it is and we’ll stay on 100 amp service. Why would I trust them to even get the work done on time?
Screw those lazy no good pieces of shit in that democrat dominated city! It just goes to show the attitude they have towards us out here near the end of their area of service and why we have so many power outages and thus need the generator. It also confirms why I an so happy that we moved out of Anderson in the first place!
Ryan says he’ll be out later this week to start getting the generator hooked up where it is. We’ll do fine with 100 amp service. I just wanted underground 200 amp to bring the house up to date.
