Hurricane Milton is traveling at a forward speed around 17 mph. With winds near 120 mph the eye of the storm is roughly 70 miles wide (35 miles from center). The storm is wavering in strength but should be anticipated to maintain this intensity as it makes landfall tonight.
The National Hurricane Center is forecasting just south of the Tampa Bay area as the most likely location for landfall. A few miles in any direction can make a big difference with this track. The greatest storm surge potential is south of the eyewall, extending well below the impact zone. Those who encounter the eye will likely be in strong hurricane force winds for 3 hours.
At 500 PM EDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Milton was located near latitude 26.9 North, longitude 83.4 West. Milton is moving toward the northeast near 17 mph (28 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue through tonight. A turn toward the east-northeast is expected on Thursday, followed by a turn toward the east on Friday.
On the forecast track, the center of Milton will make landfall near or just south of the Tampa Bay region this evening, move across the central part of the Florida peninsula overnight, and emerge off the east coast of Florida on Thursday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 120 mph (195 km/h) with higher gusts. Milton is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Milton could still be a major hurricane when it reaches the coast of west-central Florida this evening, and it will remain a hurricane while it moves across central Florida through Thursday. Milton is forecast to weaken over the western Atlantic and become extratropical by Thursday night.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 255 miles (405 km). A WeatherFlow site located in Egmont Channel (XEGM) recently reported a sustained wind speed of 51 mph (82 km/h) with a wind gust of 63 mph (102 km/h). A WeatherFlow site located on the Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier (XSKY) recently reported a sustained wind speed of 47 mph (76 km/h) with a wind gust of 62 mph (100 km/h). The minimum central pressure based on Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter data is 948 mb (28.00 inches). (more)
While a strong wind threat exists for the Tampa Bay area, residents south of the impact zone should prepare for a long duration storm surge event.

Its picked up in intensity ALOT in the last hour.
Keep an eye out for tornadoes!.
Indeed. We’ve had a parade of them traveling in rainbands all day in southeast FL. They’re long lived, traveling from Broward and Palm Beach counties all the way up through Okeechobee, Stuart, Ft Pierce to Melbourne. The not the typical F-0 tornadoes. They’ve caused a bit of damage.
I just heard Port St Lucie lost 125 homes to a tornado. We are in Oregon on a trip and getting it all covered back home has been way too much fun, but we got it all covered. We are watching and hoping. We are up the nature coast so maybe we got a break from the total devastation but wont know till morning. Hang in there every one.
Had one about 5 miles to the north, that’s too close for my liking.
Rain has stopped winds are just a bit expect to pick up in about an hour.
Excellent graphic…Brings new meaning to a Florida Gator Gusher.
That’s a hell of a Water Snout!
Gator’nado!
Ironically, gators will probably be the least effected by Milton tonight as they stay low in the water during the storm,…. unless of course, they get grabbed and sucked up in a Gator’nado?
Had CNN on while puttering around-Anderson Cooper in Bradenton. Another fellow we last saw in St. Petersburg when his hat flew off and then he disappeared from the screen – don’t know where he went – I think we saw him in a parking garage later, hatless.
Don’t any of them worry about gators and other critters in those low-lying areas? I would be more scared than Bernard Shaw under his desk in his room at the Al-Rashid Hotel in Iraq during Desert Storm!
Tornado ripped off Sheriffs building St Lucie County…
My tax dollars….
St. Lucie had two if what i read was correct…overall, there were over 100 tornado warnings.
The Tornadoes killed more people than the storm surge probably will. Imagine you think you are fleeing the storm surge and getting hit by record breaking tornadoes inland and on the East coast. The worst Florida has ever seen.
I just read a news article that said no lives were lost and no one was injured. Answered prayers! Keep praying together everyone.
I hope who ever did this to the bull terrier is crushed by oak limbs.
https://www.mysuncoast.com/2024/10/09/florida-highway-patrol-rescue-dog-tied-pole-i-75-ahead-milton/
WTF is wrong with people. Praying the doggo finds a loving home.
AND THE OWNERS GO TO JAIL!!!
They just might if Ol’ Spuds is chipped..
And isn’t sent back to those blankety-blank owners.
You articulated what I was thinking when I saw that video earlier today. What kind of sicko does that?
Animal abusers abuse humans ever chance they get.
Same kind traffic drugs and children.
Can’t find it in my soul to disagree. Sick & cruel!
That is seriously sick and twisted. They tied him up to drown!
Did anyone have the sand to watch Joey Taters take questions after that sorry assed presser about Milton? I didn’t catch his response to the question about Disagreement Information..
A pitiful Pander City Show, Kammy was the worst, as usual.
It was all theater trying to act like they care because they know people are pissed at the way they handled Helene.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Praying for all in its path.
If it be Thy Will, please God quell this storm.
In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen 🙏🏼🕊️❤️
Yes, please! 🙏💕
Talked with my friend in Florida just a bit ago. They evacuate from trailer home to proper house with hurricane shutters. She will be 25 miles north of eye center if it stays on projected path. Still has power at the moment.
Praying for all in the path.
The rain has not let up in eastern Orange county for hours. Power has flickered a few times. Tornado alerts have been going out for Orange and Brevard. It is going to be a long night for everyone.
Wow…and the worst is yet to come. Just to add context for those unfamiliar with FL:
Orange Cty is the greater Orlando area. Disney World, Universal Studios, Univ. of Central Fla., etc.
Brevard cty. Is further east on the coast; Cocoa, Titusville, Kennedy Space Ctr, Melbourne, etc.
Both are directly on the warpath of the hurricane and are heavily populated.
Daughter is just east of Tampa. Prayers for her and all others in the path.
Looks like Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda are going to take the brunt the the storm surge, 10′ to 15′.
If so, those in storm surge areas best don a life vest before the Gulf waters come a’caliing. The surge is the killer 🌀
So, is that how most deaths occur in a hurricane?
Yes, people remain on the barrier islands or beaches and do not seek higher ground…the water comes in like a tsunami and you cannot see the level until it’s too late.
They either get swept away and drown, try to swim out then drown from exhaustion, or get hit in the head from debris then drown.
And then those that drown in the surge can get carried back out to sea when the surge recedes which is not very long after it roars in as a deadly killer of all in it’s path.
Some bodies may never be found and may be listed as ‘Missing, Presumed Dead.’
Shut up
Go read the rules again….your tone is hostile.
So Landfall at Bradenton?
Have to correct myself by 15 miles south. They are calling it at Siesta Key, which is basically South Sarasota.
Thank the Lord it’s not Tampa Bay or north thereof.
Who are you!! Just follow the news and don’t act dumb

During interview with Gov. RD, Baer on Fox is trying to smear PDJT for stating “dangerous misinformation” about FEMA failures in FL.
RD ignored the statement.
Baer is so disingenuous and passive aggressive toward PDJT it is disgusting.
BB is the Brown Stain at Faux Noos regarding PDJT.
Trump isn’t the only one pointing out the FEMA failures – De Santis has stated that FEMA will NOT, under any circumstances, be allowed to take the lead in the hurricane recovery. I think that people are getting a bit fed up with FEMA actively hindering rescue and recovery efforts.
It ain’t just FEMA failure, it’s a Whole Of Government Series Of Failures in NC/TN especially!!
FEMA wanted that debris from Helene to wreak havoc on the Bay Area only to have an even bigger mess for their kickback cronies to clean up at a snails pace.
Makes sense, no other reason to leave all that stuff outside for so long. Even without Milton, it should be a 24/7 cleanup operation just for safety reasons.
False. They removed a record amount and even the State Troopers tore the gates off the dump site so trucks could work 24 hours a day to remove the debris all night. With Governor DeSantis’s permission. Stop and get off our site. This site performs life saving information during crisis.
It was true in one county but the cops tore down the gate with DeSantis’s permission
FEMA NEEDS 4 days of clearance for above to start doing anything. They post up 2 days before or after and wait for orders. They are not there to rescue you. Their mission is to get your name to get you into the system for benefits. Otherwise your on your own until the Cajun Navy and Good Samaritans come to help you. Ps, and Glenn Beck. Mercury 1
I have no illusions. FEMA probably retooled the Illegal Import App that the invaders get on their fancy NGO phones for disaster relief.
I have yet to see them hand out top of the line iPhones and Galaxies with a digital debit card imbedded with an $11k balance to my Appalachian peoples.
The first 10 days are the responsibility of the local and State government. Just to let you know. And they have been fantastic working through the night until today.
Horribly SAD that an agency ostensibly created to help in times of disaster has become just about the opposite.
We need a miraculous housecleaning of the fed. govt.
Amen!
Bring the entire temple DOWN!!!
Sweep, sweep, sweep, disinfect, disinfect, disinfect!
Oh yes….But don’t forget, they are doing such a fantastic job with DEI and LBGQTRSVp during catastrophic disasters. How can we be so insensitive, spewing disinformation about their ridiculous priorities.
Oh yes….But don’t forget, they are doing such a fantastic job with DEI and LBGQTRSVp during catastrophic disasters. How can we be so insensitive, spewing disinformation about their ridiculous priorities. Sarc.
Key word, aDoozy – miraculous! Nothing short of God’s interventions will do.
Can anyone think of a fe**ral agency that isn’t now doing the opposite of its actual mission?
see eye aye – supposed to spy on and perform ops upon outside enemies, instead doing both on citizens
fibbies – supposed to capture criminals, instead persecuting citizens who have commited no crime
do injustice – supposed to administer law, instead perverting law to target political opponents
notsosecret service – supposed to protect public figures under threat, instead exacerbating threats (and maybe even worse)
feeblema – supposed to save people from natural disaster, instead preventing them from being saved (hat tip to Doozy above)
fda – supposed to study and prevent bad medicine from reaching market, instead assisting pig pharma in getting it there
All I got for now – I’m sure treepers can think of quite a few more!
Sorry – dang, just realized this may be considered off topic. I will try to delete it but it may be too late.
And yes, it is too late. 😞
Ad Rem if you think so please do delete…
Exactly. Who do you want as President to clean up and restore these communities? Trump or dreadful Harris? Scary what we face if Trump gets another coup.
North Carolina Tate Police said they would arrest anyone from FEMA taking aid or stopping rescues.
He’d call the Election for the Death Cult right now if they’d let him..
What,… Brown Stain Bair hasn’t already called AZ for Team Marxist as his Murdoch owners decree, … like they did in the stolen election ’20???
He has been a Never-Trumper for several years.
So the narrative everywhere is now disinformation in media, tv, print, govt.
Cannot discuss issues because every type of inquiry could expose something that makes them look, or feel bad.
They should welcome healthy dialogue in order to get new ideas, improve outcomes and be more effective. They are here to serve the public so they need to know what the public thinks.
These are not serious people.
As a caution, in 1985, H. Elena roared like Milton towards Sarasota but stalled just off the coast, then due to changing upper level wind steering currents late that night, it took a left turn to the Nortwest, crossed the Gulf and slammed into Gautier, MS at 6 am.
I don’t think Milton will do this, as a Nortwest front will steer it straight into hopefully Sarasota and Not North of Tampa Bay. If so, City of Tampa will resemble New Orleans during Katrina!
Prayers for all it Milton’s path.
Tampa will not resemble New Orleans. All of Tampa is above sea level, New Orleans is not.
Thanks for the tip!
Still going to be, is now bad, but the water drains rather quickly afterwards. Inland the water will stay high longer as rivers will swell from the heavy rain.
Thank you! Someone down thread said that water had started to recede from Tampa Bay.
Most I know about water is that flash floods can take people unawares and thus are very dangerous.
Never been in a hurricane, but many times from a far ways off I’ve prayed for the area under attack.
35 years of my adult working life in the Tampa bay area. Been close to many, but not as close as Sundance has been.
Basically the circular winds are pushing water out of Tampa Bay on the northern part of the eye wall.
Further south, winds are pushing water in the opposite direction towards the land.
It’s kind of a like a yin yang effect, for lack of a better term.
My river system has been brim full for weeks. In about 7 days the water will drain out of the swamps and we will have some real flooding out here. If a new storm hits then, life will get interesting in a hurry.
A 15′ storm surge driven by 120-135 mph winds with topping waves can inundate City of Tampa.
But, Milton will have to make landfall just North of Tampa Bay for this to possibly occur.
My niece is there now on duty as a Sheriff Deputy, so I sincerely hope Milton hits South of Tampa Bay 🌀
NOLA being 6-8′ below sea level wasn’t the problem.
It was an Incompetent Orleans Parish Levee Board who were negligent in maintaining their levers and drainage canal walls that they knew were suspect.
The NOLA suburb of Jeff Parish didn’t even man their world class water pumping system, for which our law firm filed a Fed law suit against the worthless Parish President who decided to not employ our very expensive pumping system.
I lived thru it then and there ,… and I sure hope Tampa is spared a major storm surge tonight and consequent city flooding.
OMG… You were there in person?
I was aghast watching it happen in TV.
And I got very annoyed when all the elite rich flew back into town to I return to their ritzy mansions.
Meantime, the poor, many of whom had lived there for generations were scattered throughout the nation .
Andrew was the first hurricane that seriously caught my eye and riveted my attention.
Afterwards there was no on recovery operations, on repairs, on rebuilding, etc
I remain highly suspicious about Hurricane Andrew
Wasn’t that the one with the fleet of unused yellow school buses just sitting somewhere when people needed ways to get out?
Yup.
Underwater busses.
Yep,.. NOLA Mayor “Chocolate City” Ray Nagoon’s unused fleet… Sitting in 5 feet of water.
Heck of a job, Ray Ray
It’s heading into the Port Charlotte area, south of Tampa.
Amen!
You must be nervous, but try to stay calm 🙏
Tampa dogged a big bullet tonight.
My niece is safe now, off duty at home with lights flickering. Tomorrow’s looters will be her Sheriff Deputy’s big dangerous job.
Purr-fect. As long as you’re not in the Storm. Meow.
I love this. Would you please share it on the Open Thread?
Drag and drop will get it?
Exactly what is needed in this time of stress! 😂
As of 6:20 PM, Milton was a mid-range Cat 3 hurricane with 120 mph winds as it approaches the Florida coast between Tampa and Coral Gables.
Severe as this is, two days ago many were predicting an historic Cat 5 with 180 mph winds, (an intensity it reached off the Yucatan coast).
I used to live on the Barrier Islands of NC and weathered a couple of storms of this intensity…bad, but could have been much worse.
Thank God for small blessings and batten the hatches.
Keep praying! 😁
All this HAARP crap. Thoughts? Opinions? I haven’t read enough about, if there is anything to read, so just don’t know.
Jesse Ventura got me wondering about HAARP way back around 09 with his Conspiracy Theory television show where he drove around in a black Dodge Charger..
I really enjoyed that program and was around the last time I had TV 2010 or so?
He had a horrible one on F ema camps. Ack.
Yep.
There is a lot to read, and it is not crap.
Check out Col. Douglas Macgregor’s podcast on Oct. 7.
Check out Redacted’s broadcast on Oct. 9.
aDoozy did you happen to catch the Infowars program today with Dane Wiggington? I recall we discussed briefly some of these revelatory vids on this stuff. I’f you haven’t? and are interested you should check them out.
Do a search .
Colonel Douglas Macgregor’s interview with Dane Wigington from, I think, geoengineeringwatch
There’s lots of info online.
In the open thread I posted a link to a video on YouTube by channel “Conspiracies Proven” which is about the history of weather modification
The first patents are from the 1890s
Military Industrial Complex didn’t want the public to learn about the weather warfare, so they hid it behind the term, “Conspiracy Theory!”
Biddie and to you also did you see Wiggington on AJ’s program? It must now be up on Rumble or Infowars its really good.
I looked at some of these sources.
Then I looked at the storm path shown for Milton.
I tried to figure out whether it will pass over Mar-a-Lago but I am too map challenged to get it.
I did find that address in Apple Maps several weeks ago when I was trying to figure out where the golf course that the Ukraine creep did the dirt was in relation to MAL.
But I have no way of overlaying the storm path graphics I’ve seen over that…
Geography is not my strong point…
https://weathermodificationhistory.com
You couldn’t ask for a more exhaustive, well-organized collection of info on this topic.
Included are Operation Popeye that sought to extend the monsoon during the Vietnam War, and the UN Weather Modification Treaty of 1976. Weather modification is not new.
Uh…uh…
….am I crazy or is North Carolina also a neighbor to South Carolina?
Did that guv do this for them?
SD, please note per the 5pm NHC Forecast Discussion that the eye wall is completely open to the south. They are calling it a sheared hurricane.
May our prayers be answered for a less intense Storm
Waffle Houses are closing.
🚨 Extreme Wind Warning🚨
Rare extreme wind warning for most of Pinellas, Hillsborough and Manatee counties until 930. Sustained winds of 115 mph are likely in the warned area as the eye wall of #Milton moves onshore. Stay in the safest room of home until the threat passes.
President Trump is housing 275 Florida linemen free of charge at his Doral Miami resort ahead of hurricane Milton’s landfall.
Hero.
God will double bless him for that and many other great things.
Plus he gave 25 mil to the NC/TN victims
We don’t deserve him…
Love our real President!
Funny! 🤣🤣🤣
I almost hate to say it, but please Jesus, save Kamala from her insanity.
Thanks for the belly laugh, Comrade Commie-La!
But…looking for something to occupy you?
Why don’t you just try OnlyFans now that you did that other podcast.
You know you want to…
I can’t stomach the Woke Weather Channel. I’ve been streaming Ryan Hall on YouTube all evening. Great coverage and graphics without the histrionic antics of reporters bracing themselves in hurricane winds while screaming into the microphone.
wth
This empty headed wino is totally tone deaf as a pol candidate and becomes more ludicrous and laughable day by day now.
Even CNN is calling her bluffs now. And DementJoe is dumping on her daily now.
Way to pick’em, Bammy.

Last I saw, Jim Cantore was in a parking garage somewhere….
He filmed live in front of our MS beach front home during H. Gustav in ’09.
He met our fam afterwards and I was surprised to learn Mr. Cantore really is a fine, good and humble caring man,… not just another weather TV ‘make’en worry’ for ratings talking head , as I had previously thought of Jim .
Fortunately the central pressure weakened to 948 millibars as of 5 pm.
A couple of days ago, as Milton approached the Yucatan, its central pressure dropped to 911 millibars.
For reference, Hurricane Camille, at landfall in Pass Christian, Mississippi in August 1969, had an estimated central pressure of 900 millibars, one of the lowest known readings ever. The damage was indescribable.
Early this morning, the pressure was 905 mb so this is better am guessing?
Yes.. The lower the number the stronger the pressure
So to make it less strong, we want see the number RISE.
Confused me at first!
Atmospheric pressure is typically 1013 mb. The closer the storm is to that pressure, the better. Pressure DIFFERENTIAL is key in storm strength.
Thank you!
1013 MB.
Great!
Camille was clocked at 892 mb just before land fall as it was growing stronger after completing its eye wall rebuild cycle, or 26.6 h, mercury barometric pressure that equaled or perhaps best the record of lowest pressure & wind speed velocity ever in the Atlantic baseline, per reports locally as confirmed by NOAA/AOML records/reports.
Prior to Camille, the Labor Day hurricane (not named then) in 1935 that hit the FL Keys held that low pressure for the Atlantic basin.
Go to, http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/landsea)kieper-landsea-beven-bams-2016.pfd and see report for NOLA Meteorologist, Nash Robert’s manuscript for verification.
My aunt lost her house in Long Beach to Camille. Gone without a trace, she had enough sense to evacuate.
My good friend David, who was a Tulane electric eng major was working at the Stenis MS Test Facility as a Summer job in ’69.
He lived at the Richelieu Apartments in Pass Christian next to Long Beach and declined staying there for their Hurricane Party that horrid night.
He evaced,… but all at the party as well as the entire 2 story building we’re destroyed by Camille that night.
IIRC, eight people lost their inebriated lives.
Went through Francis and Irene in Titusville (’98 or ’99). New owners are in for a few months of cleanup.
( no worries, the back porch stays a foot or so above the water line – and the Live Oaks WILL hold )
According to my weather app from Tampa channel 8, it looks like it’s heading straight for Sarasota. 🙏
I just learned that there are live updates on this webpage. I’ve never followed Yahoo for political or world news, but maybe they can accurately report on this event?

Tampa Bay is currently receding, per Andy on Ryan Hall Y’all.
Prayers up for the St Lucie area on the east coast……
just got pix from my daughter…and the storm had not yet made landfall on the West Coast…she has a huge amount of damage to her east coast St Lucie home, inside and out…roof, shuttered windows shattered…….soffits torn off…shed relocated to a neighbors yard…huge trees down all over…patio screens gone…unbelievable.
Glad to hear that SHE is fine, and particularly relieved she left the eastern coast before the arrival of Milton.
What an ungodly mess to return to in St. Lucie!
But thank God your daughter is fine 🙏🙏🙏
Thank God she evacuated!!
Thank you…She was actually at work…she is a sheriff’s deputy…I was surprised that they were allowed to leave and not mandated over.
Am thinking it was a micro burst of a tornado…her neighbors are not terribly impacted…just one or two…the rest of the street seems to be ok…
Smart deputy gal,… property can be replaced, lives not.

Making landfall.
Landfall near Siesta Key, barrier island west of Sarasota. Very cl9se to Lido, Longboat.
Haven’t heard more specific.
Still a Cat 3, but weakening.
Will procede across Florida creating chaos all night before heading out to sea in the esrly morning hours.
Well it’s not anywhere near 180 mph and hurricane force wind extend only 35 miles from the center.
“Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 255 miles (405 km). A WeatherFlow site located in Egmont Channel (XEGM) recently reported a sustained wind speed of 51 mph (82 km/h) with a wind gust of 63 mph (102 km/h). “
It’s not the wind. It’s the storm surge that destroys everything with the salt water.

Vote for Harris cuz she’ll tax the rich. And, of course, PDJT is the symbol for the rich. An old Dem theme smarter folks might question: well, what have you done about this in the last three years? It’s just rhetoric. Wealth distribution to the top 5% inequities have intensified the last three years.
Vote early stuff with actors who fit specific profiles.
