Good morning, Dan 🙏🏻 I was just outside in the dark, standing in the garage watching the rain we so much needed coming down…a good soaking rain…after reading this beautiful devotional from Spurgeon (who was given the gift of comforting expression); and suddenly I remembered this song. I thought it would be the perfect one to leave.

Most important understanding {to me} of verses 15-17, is that Peter is directing his followers to adhere to the epistles of the Apostle Paul.
Even Peter found some of Paul’s epistles “hard to be understood”.
Only to the Apostle Paul was given the “revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.” Rom 16:25
It took Paul three years in the desert for God to fully convert {from law to grace} Saul of Tarsus into Paul, the Apostle of the
Gentiles.

Good early Monday morn, Mr jay ☕😘 Remembering my first and only pair of boots when I was ten and off to summer camp in the mountains of New Mexico for six weeks. Plenty of horseback riding. Mine were white with gold swirls throughout…just what you would expect a small ten year old girl to choose. Much older now of course, and shrunk back to the size I was then 😉
I’m going to sit on this bench outside a house that I would fit in nicely.

My old truck lost its air conditioning so rather than spend the money for an expensive repair on a 23 year old truck it is going to get re-homed. I told the Ford dealer that if he wanted me to buy a new Maverick, he’d have to the the old truck in trade. He held his nose but accepted that part of the deal. So. If they accept my offer, I may have a new hybrid (41mpg) Maverick P/U tomorrow. Or, I can just walk and come back another time. This ain’t my first rodeo. . . 🙂

hundreds of missiles from Lebanon, missiles and drones from Iraq (Iranian related Militia). Israel intercepts it good enough to prevent casualties. Hezbollah fired at adjacent towns to Haifa (third largest city of Israel) and so expanded its reach. Damage to properties.
Hezbollah is mobilizing and preparing for major attacks.
IDF issued a warning to residents who live by munition storages all across Lebanon to evacuate.
Speaker of the IDF is saying that for decades Hezbollah stashed munitions in residential homes and neighborhoods.
Israel has a lot of forces ready.
Biden says that they are doing everything to prevent the expansion of the war. This means pressure and threats on Israel.
IDF did a precision attack in a school in central Gaza after we had Intelligence that they turned it to a Command and Control Hamas center. No data yet of how many terrorists got killed (note that those schools are not operational as educational institutions at the moment).

Doc told of a parachute training jump from the ground that he and his medical graduating class had to make. Since it was one of his stories I never asked for details. The story will be part of a Eulogy I am writing.
I searched the web for a description and all I could find is info about what is current – virtual parachute jump training.
It would have happened before 1960. Do you know what it was?

The first week of the Basic Airborne Course is dedicated to teaching prospective troopers how to land properly to minimize the potential for injury and general familiarization with the T-10D and T-11 parachute. The T-10D is a round-shaped parachute and the T-11 is a square-shaped parachute, both using static line extraction with a descent rate of 18–23 ft/sec and 16–20 ft/sec respectively, dependent on the weight and equipment outfitting of the individual jumper. Prospective troopers are taught how to wear the parachute harness correctly and how to use the special training gear. During ground week, prospective troopers will spend the majority of time learning, practicing, and perfecting their parachute landing fall (PLF) and proper exit technique from the aircraft.
To practice the PLFs, soldiers will jump from platforms of various heights into sand or pebble pits, simulating the final stage of parachute landing. This maneuver teaches a soldier to transfer the energy of the fall (landing) up the sides of the lower legs and knees, all the way up the side of the upper body. During this period black hats (instructors) closely observe and correct the prospective troopers’ body position and technique making corrections. This week culminates in practice landings from the lateral drift assembly, a zip line type assembly which simulates making contact with the ground traveling at speed and in various directions. In many cases, the first use of the 34-foot tower is made at the end of this period of training.”

That sounds like what the new medical graduates did. Problem was – Doc never mentioned training of any kind. Hah – they weren’t soldiers, they were new AF medical school graduates – badly out of shape and very ill prepared
There is a section in both articles talking about the early training (the time period you mentioned)… basically jumping from towers.

The way Doc told the story he and his classmates were told to report for the jump right after graduation. They were all in no way shape or form ‘FIT’. They had been studying to become medical doctors – which i am sure required lots of time in class and out of class studying for tests
According to Doc the result of that ‘exercise’ was injury and hospitalization

I do! My dear friend and mentor Terry Melcher ( Doris Day’s son ) produced that record at Columbia. My father wrote their liner notes to their first LP “Mr. Tambourine Man”. I wore those dopey weird blue tinted “Roger McGuinn Byrd glasses” until they finally tossed me out of fifth grade elementary school in Laurel Canyon CA circa 1966/67 – around the time of those two records 🙂 It was the glasses AND my Beatle Boots that finally did it. Plus being the class cut-up. ( eyeroll here )

My better half fully agrees with you, Betsy. Fall is hands down her favorite and has been for the 55 years I’ve known her. She loves the transition to cooler temps from the heat & humidity that is normal for our July and August weather here in Maryland…. We had an extended period of above-90° summer days here this year. So she’ lovin’ the temps right now…..
You may be a bit ahead of us with reduced temps, dear friend. And probably leaves as well. Its the colours which appeal to me. Those should hit around the middle of November. In Wales we had our coal fires in our rural home, surrounded by lovely evergreen treed hills. I left the best part of myself there when we moved back to warmer climate. But in some way, I always travel back in my mind come autumn.
Wish I could be like Bewitched!! Twitch my nose…there for a while…sigh 😘😘
By the way, I think my morning coffees taste better in the autumn, too 😁☕

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Israel Update:
– We just took out the number 3 of Hezbollah in Beirut. He was in charge of their South Command. The front with Israel. Their number one and two were taken out in the last couple of weeks.
I am talking about Military. Nasrallah their Supreme Leader must be hiding under a hospital.
This is remarkable Mossad work again. They are very carful and we still got him. They must be penetrated at the top echelon.
– Thousands of attacks on Hezbollah’s munitions and infrastructure. Everything they built is going to be destroyed. Hundreds of jet fighters involved.
Again remarkable Intel.
The IDF knows thousands of their locations and munition storages in homes and forests and cities. This war may be won by Mossad.
– We are getting a lot of missiles including over the family of my wife who lives in Haifa. My sister in law can hear the missiles and explosions and sirens.
But, while we were afraid that the hundreds of thousands of missiles will devastate all of Israel and we will have mass casualties, so far the IDF managed to overwhelm them and with God’s help we have damages but no serious injuries so far.
– Israel under US pressure by the Biden Administration delayed the ground invasion and is using the “onion” strategy of damaging them layer by layer and giving them a chance to withdraw from South Lebanon and make an agreement. Each strike is deeper and stronger.
Biblically like Exodus when God inflicted increasingly stronger strikes until they gave up and let the Jewish slaves go.
Hundreds of killed in Lebanon and many more injured. It’s a perfect time to invade but I see that this is played like chess step by step.
God bless the IDF and protect Israel and defeat the terrorists.
