Encryption in transit is not irrelevant. It does what it is supposed to do – for data in transit at one or more levels in the stack. The problem you refer to is architectural at the host device OS/app levels – and at the receiving end servers. Were I you I’ld be asking why increasing numbers of online businesses respond with the HTTP status code 403 during logon/authentication if one happens to use a VPN.
Encryption for data-at-rest is not fool hardy either if the math behind it is credible and the underlying E2E crypto system is itself protected consonant with the value of the protected information.
The owner of a device has a huge advantage: physical access. An owner can monitor everything leaving a device. It’s up to you to decide the trade-offs in risk versus cost of the information you want to protect. The people chosen for the task force must be given authority to go anywhere and look at anything they want. A 24 to 36 month timeline to complete the job should be given to them. RFK Jr. might be helpful in this area as it seems he cares a great deal about free speech. I’m just kind of riffing here, but this censorship stuff really ticks me off.
