Before there was a Corcoran Lake the San Joaquin Valley was filled with sea water from the ocean. It was big enough and deep enough that HUGE sharks lived there. By HUGE I mean big enough you could drive a Mac truck through their mouth without touching their massive teeth.
Outside of Bakersfield is a place called Sharks Tooth Hill. Actually more than just a hill, but a whole area where fossilized sharks teeth can be found. We spent many, many hours there as kids looking for them.
My ex-brother in law is a geologist and has a large collection of these teeth. Some of his sharks teeth measure over 7″ long.
Corcoran is now just a little town known for its prison. Manson spent the rest of his life there before he finally died.
By the way, Tulare Lake came back a couple of years ago with all the rain and it’s still there!

Jamaica (hibiscus flower drink), Horchata (sweetened rice water), and kid had nachos with chorizo… and I should have, should have taken a picture of the menu for what mine was called.
It’s a whole fried Tilapia fish served with arroz y frijoles, pico de Gallo, and corn tortillas. It was OUTRAGEOUS and delicious!! The skin was caramelized and crackling like chicharones.

Sorry… I had already started to eat it when I took the picture. Then realized, I really need a picture of this! We will go back. Maybe even just for breakfast. It would be worth a 160 mile round trip for a luxurious day drive for us.
We also detoured and got so far as the gate of the Muscatatuck Military Base. A site known as a premier training school for cyber security. Being a civilian now, I don’t have access inside miltary installations anymore, but kiddo and I had a great conversation with the gate guards and they really inspired Savannah into arranging some site visits through command.
I love talking to the rank and file, so normal, rational, and grounded… despite the looney bins at the top who really couldn’t pound sand if someone put firecrackers up their tail pipe. When the world seems to swirl with chaos, we still have our faithful guardians and earners of valor standing sentry to get the jobs done
We visited my father’s grave twice at the Indiana Veterans Cemetary in Madison. Decorated his grave. Looked around at the neighbors. Lovely, lovely newer cemetery adjacent to the State Hospital and a correctional facility. The prisoners tend the grounds. Had to laugh, but they have a big huge artillery gun in the memorial gardens pointed AT the correctional facility. Even in death, our military is protecting us… ha ha!
It’s in our blood. I’m not going to be able to keep Savannah away from military service. She’s going, I’m just not certain when. It’s in her. She wants to “toughen up”. I get it and she comes from “tough stock”. We are an honor and service family and we can’t deny who we are. The guards mentioned cyber security and the Crane Naval base that she should go see for an example of military life and she nearly doubled in size and excitement.
To serve and protect. God made us warriors.
Nine more months of high school. Accuplacer to see if she can gain admittance to Vincennes University Indianapolis, coupled with a corporate sponsorship for on the job training, fifteen month program there… then permanent placement with that sponsoring employer if she loves it… or military service after the education with the experience as a boost to ranking.
Plan B is straight on to the military, after high school.
The only way I could keep her from military service is to get her flying and in a profession using that experience… oil and gas maybe? Med Evac? I can see her loving the Vincennes University experience, but using it as acquiring mechanical skills in her tool belt to apply elsewhere rather than corporate factory production. We will see. These two years are integral.
To marry it all would be her bliss. She’s got her mother’s sense of excitement and she’s a horse stuck in a pen, waiting to run. I want her to have it. I want her to explore the world and have it all. If God Wills it.
Now, I am just counting down the time I have left with her. Reconciling sending my daughter into thankless danger. Counting her arms and legs, taking her complete self in, and praying to God she serves and returns fully intact. Wondering what that service hardness will do to her, how will she change? How will it affect her becoming a mother and having a family of her own someday? That hardness and scarring only a life of service gives. I can still see her as a four year old. Let go, Mom.
Talking it through (not the possibility of missing limbs part, that’s all internalized and carried by me), but the timing of school, service, productive children years, the sacrifice of relocating military families, the ability for a second career after service. Seeing and learning the world.
Be. Still. My. Heart.

I suggest that you give them a call and just ask for their advice. Things have changed quite a lot since I first started out. The counselors now actually know about ADA law and how it protects students. That expertise was a long time coming, but colleges and universities, unlike that stupid HS, now have well trained counselors and real support abilities.

She has to sustain C or better throughout… so there’s no failing courses or else you get the boot.

My wife and I took the kids out for Mexican food Saturday night in Niagara Falls NY. Absolutely terrific experience. My son who is almost 15 wolfed down more than I imagined anyone could.
My wife who is Latino laughed as the kids imitated Gringo accent of Spanish words.
It is important to disconnect from the labours of the week and so something nice. We have had such a busy summer of work in the farm.
As soon as we crossed the border my son said, “Everyone roll down the windows and breathe in freedom!” They absolutely love the US. Hilarious kid. He makes us laugh all day long.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Sundance: Brave browser is not as neutral as they claim to be.
When using Brave, it keeps track of your top 6 most visited sites with shortcut icons. After clearing old ones, I was able to add zerohedge, but am unable to add the Treehouse.
I tested it. It added CNN after opening them twice. It added The Jerusalem Post after opening twice.
It won’t add the Treehouse after hundreds of openings. Same with Breitbart.
Just another example of censorship everyone should be aware of.
