Right before the pandemic would hit a few months later, despite two years of doomsayer predictions from Wall Street’s professional punditry, all of them said Trump’s 2017 steel and aluminum tariffs on China, Canada and the EU would create massive inflation – it just wasn’t happening!
Overall, year-over-year inflation was hovering around 1.7 percent [Table-A BLS]; yup, that was our inflation rate. The rate in the latter half of 2019 was firmed up with less month-over-month fluctuation, and the rate basically remained consistent. [See Below] The U.S. economy was on a smooth glide path, strong, stable, and Main Street was growing with MAGAnomics at work.
A couple of important points. First, unleashing the energy sector to drive down overall costs to consumers, and industry outputs was a key part of President Trump’s America First MAGAnomic initiative. Lower energy prices help the worker economy, middle class and average American more than any other sector.
Which brings us to the second important point. Notice how food prices had very low year-over-year inflation – 0.5 percent. That is a combination of two key issues: low energy costs, and the fracturing of Big Ag’s hold on the farm production and the export dynamic:

The Commerce Dept. then announced that retail sales climbed by 0.4 percent in August 2019, twice as high as the 0.2 percent analysts had predicted. The result highlighted retail sales strength of more than 4 percent year-over-year. These excellent results came on the heels of blowout data in July, when households boosted purchases of cars and clothing.
The better-than-expected number stemmed largely from a 1.8 percent jump in spending vehicles. Online sales, meanwhile, also continued to climb, rising 1.6 percent. That’s similar to July 2019, when Amazon held its two-day blowout Prime Day sale. (link)
Despite the efforts to remove and impeach President Trump, it did not look like middle class America was overly concerned about the noise coming from the pundits. Likely that’s because blue collar wages were higher, Main Street inflation was lower, and overall consumer confidence was strong. Yes, MAGAnomics was working.

This was a really interesting dynamic that no one in the professional punditry would dare explain.
Donald Trump’s tariffs were targeted to specific sectors of imported products. [Steel, Aluminum, and a host of smaller sectors etc.] However, when the EU and China responded by devaluing their currency, that approach hit all products imported, not just the tariff goods.
Because the EU and China were driving up the value of the dollar, everything we were importing became cheaper. Not just imports from Europe and China, but actually imports from everywhere. All imports were entering the U.S. at substantially lower prices.
This meant when we imported products, we were also importing deflation.
This price result is exactly the opposite of what the economic experts and Wall Street pundits predicted back in 2017 and 2018 when they were pushing the rapid price increase narrative.
Because all the export dependent economies were reacting with such urgency to retain their access to the U.S. market, aggregate import prices were actually lower than they were when the Trump tariffs began:

Logically:
1. If the mafia had murdered the POTUS, the US govt would have wiped them off the face of the earth. No need to hide that for over 60 years.
2. If the Soviets had murdered JFK- retaliation for Cuban missile crisis (CMC)– there would be no reason to keep that secret today. The USSR ceased to exist in 1991. Also, no point in killing JFK anyway … after the CMC. Nothing to be gained and the Soviets would only create the possibility of catastrophic attack on Russia by the US in retaliation. No one has forgotten that the immediate cause of WWI was the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. Assassinating a US President would be far worse. No reason today to keep those JFK assassination records secret if the non-existent Soviet Union had murdered JFK.
3. If Castro had orchestrated the assassination of JFK, the US would have destroyed Cuba and Castro would have been immediately killed. No reason to keep those assassination records secret 60 years after the murder of JFK.
ONLY IF it was powerful officials of the US govt – CIA, FBI, etc– that assassinated the President of the United States would that fact need to be kept secret 60 years later… and that makes sense too re: the reason PDJT gave for not releasing these records.

Dunes… my dad’s story as well – pacific theater. Always spoke glowingly and thankfully of the GI bill and how it helped him w college and home. Given what he and others went through at such a young age it was small recompense.
College is extremely expensive and not everyone one majors in something stupid. The whole basketweaving thing is a trope designed to denigrate those good citizens who actually don’t have grandparents or parents who pay for their college (like myself) and are only 18 with no credit score when they go to college and have no choice. Or the basketweaving joke is said by those boomers who were lucky college was affordable when they went and they lack empathy for anyone younger. The government should forgive loans to help the people who need them get stabilized quicker. I say if you work and pay them back in any field (not just public service)for 10 maybe 15 years then forgive all of it. Let those people buy houses have kids be stay at home moms if they want. If we can throw money away at Ukraine this should be a drop in the bucket! But yes I cringe when I hear the basketweaving thing because it’s typically from someone who had someone else pay their way. Not always but typically.
I believe college level education has become a profit center for the university matrix, as well as the financial sector and the government agencies and individuals who profit from the movement of all that money.
We can look at the evolution of other profit centers in the evolving debt-based economy for examples of similar grift.
When I went to engineering school, tuition was 150 bucks a semester and books were just a bit more than that because of all the technical texts. That was during Ford/Carter. Nice place, cool tech, hated programming punch cards in Fortran, loved the chem lab. I paid in cash from the summer job at a cottonseed plant that I outlined in a prior post.

I went to colleg in the 80’s and the term “basket weaving” existed back then. For those of us in STEM, it was anything type of degree or class that was not challenging/easy. More often it was a term given to an east class than degree….at least where I went.
Communications was the relatively easy & ultimately useless undergrad degree that the academically-lazy sought in my day (’60s through ’90s). Not everyone who pursued that degree was lazy (I knew two smart people who genuinely pursued it for their professions), but it became the brunt of jokes by the early 2000’s.
Joe Namath was basically asked what courses he took at Alabama when he was there. The inference to him was basically taking basket weaving courses.
Namath famously shot back that no he took journalism classes because it was much easier.
The college scam is slowly but steadily being discovered. Nonsensical, fluff “degrees” are now and have always been all but worthless in terms of improving income potential.
NO forgiveness is not required what is required is that the near 0 interest rates that the fed charges banks should be the rate for student loans.
Perhaps we could consider a claw back from the university system for systematic fraud and reduce student debt that way. (Over promise, under deliver)
They completely federalized the student loan system you can’t get out of paying it so the operation and loss cost are near zero, no need for any mark ups.
The student loan program needs to only be available to schools that hold cost in line with reality.
The truly gifted will still be vacuumed up by corporate and academia with full ride scholarships. The wealthy will continue to send their kids to the snobbiest colleges.

I’ve been wondering the same thing, and from the small group of people I know who will likely do what you question, I’ll say this:
There seems to be a handful fundamental reasons, and I speak of adults over 60, lifelong Dems.:
1) They have absolute trust in government and all govt. institutions. Even though they are reasonably intelligent people.
They trusted the vaxx, the mask, and every other inconvenience or arbitrary evil that was shoved down our throats.
They still trust medicine. You see, THEIR ox did not get gored by covid. They do NOT question authority.
2) How can that be? Intelligent people? Because the idea that everything is fake, evil, and against us and our futures- scares the hell out of them. They are in denial regarding the truth. They don’t want to know and will resist every effort to set them straight.
3) Maga at its core has to accept that there are things that are not so great if we are to make them great again… Well, for leftists, admitting that anything is not currently great is a leap too far. A slippery slope into a gaping black hole of fear and uncertainty. The idea of fighting for what is right and good does not ever enter their thought processes… Too much work, not my job.
4) Godlessness. These people are generally “decent” people who treat others respectfully, and who see themselves as good people. They don’t realize or accept that Jesus Christ must be within their hearts to be truly forgiven. they have no idea regarding the grace of God.
5) A sense of superiority. In their own eyes, they are smarter, kinder, better people. They give to leftist charities and think that makes them good. They do not accept ANY truth that points out the failures or illogic of things they support.
They are comfortable thinking that they are OK, and violently oppose considering otherwise… why let anyone upset their apple cart? I begged some to not take any more shots. They didn’t engage or even as k me why I felt that way. They still get a covid test every time they get a sniffle. It’s F&%$ing sad.

IDK, U.S manufacturers built magnet factories in Mexico decades ago which could attract both Mexicans and immigrants. I believe China has been doing similar in Mexico to tap the work force there and in Latin America as well as take advantage of favorable trade agreements.

What will they do? It all depends on Trump’s relative polling strength verses the cabal’s cartoon candidates. If they truly believe they can steal this election with the same micro-targeting ballot stuffing as in 2020, no sweat. Despite the lax courts and SOS’s in these states, it should be a much tougher task. Here are my predictions based on what appears to already be moving forward:

The next chapter of the movie is being scripted now, and is likely the October surprise. Weekend at Biden’s 2 will have the stiff fully in medical surrender, passing the presidency to Kamel either via resignation or 25th amendment. This gives her ascendancy to BEING PRESIDENT, making it seemingly easier for dolts and mushy middle people to accept her in that role. Could happen in September if her numbers start sliding.

This is an important question which too often leads to a discussion of the CIA or the US intelligence community, or some other element of the US Government. Restricted to that view, the conversation, while interesting, produces more questions than answers. A result which I believe is the desired effect.
To get at the truth, one must first understand the “stakeholders.” Although the stakeholders work together with the US , they exist outside the US borders and so, outside the scrutiny of US laws and congressional eyes. That is a handy attribute. Secondly, one must realize a stakeholder outside the US border has national interests that conflict with the national interest of the US.
One big stakeholder working hand in glove with the US and viewed as having a “special relationship” with the US is Great Britain. But do we today share the same national interest? Obviously, we did not in 1776. Then, Britain had achieved its status by subjugating the people of other countries and removing whatever resources they needed. That would be colonialism. The US was established on freeing people from government and by this freedom allowing them to create a better life for themselves.
Theses two conflicting national interests were not reconciled when the revolutionary war ended. In fact Great Britain continued to view the Union of the States as an existential threat because if other countries adopted the US model, it would challenge their colonial requirements. Which is why the British supported the Confederacy, itself a construct which allowed for the subjugation of people. They have since altered their approach which is accurately captured in the old saw : “If you can’t beat them, join them.”

I don’t know what others have been doing rather only what I’ve been doing. It’s been going on for about 20 years, and markedly since the Covid op. Law enforcement knows who I am up close and personal, something in my near seven decades never had been a feature prior. Economic warfare and repurposing Communist resources loom large in current strategy.

Unfortunately, Big Gov’t corruption has had another 4 years to solidify and spread its tentacles. It seems pointless to call it Democrat action as that party is clearly just a convenient front for the real Control gang. With all the Lawfare and other challenges mentioned above, the poor choices for A/G, all the obstructive RINO’s like Paul Ryan, McConnell and other anti-Trumpers in Congress; P Trump’s admin was greatly restricted from dealing with corruption even when he was POTUS.
It’s mind boggling that those in control of the most indebted nation in the history of the world with an increasingly corrupt Judicial system can still dupe many Americans into believing that the USA is a fair and functional democracy or Republic. In the minds of the corrupted, elections are useful just to maintain the charade. SD outlines the many ways the true “Command Authority” within the USA reacted when P Trump won in 2016.
What will they do? Anything they think will help them maintain power over the nation and its population that is demographically changing every day. I doubt there are any restrictions being imposed on them to eliminate P Trump except to ensure their actions are concealed and then blame it on a patsy or patsies.
HOWEVER, I hope there are enough honest election locations still in the USA so PDJT/Vance can once again win a “miraculous” election and then build a strong Cabinet to begin healing the nation. It won’t be easy but I hope it won’t have to be a greater miracle than his survival in Butler

There are some people who are convinced the November 5th election will not take place because the democrats will stop it/cancel it/halt it if they see they can’t win or cheat enough to win.

Yes Reynolds88, I wrote a long time ago that I go to ZeroHedge first, then the Conservative Tree House second when I start reading late at night.
I am so happy that someone at ZH finally got a brain and finally recognized the very great gifts of Sundance, and the Treehouse at the CTH.
Just like an Elephant I never forgot anything that happened. How could I with Sundance constantly refreshing my memory? A real elephant doesn’t need a reminder about anything.
