You’ve made me think…
My family when I was growing up had, as all families do, its own…
Struggling for the right word here and can’t find it…so I will just say peculiarities and dynamics. The face we presented was a public face…or so I always thought. It was only when my father died that it was reported to me (we couldn’t attend because we were overseas and hadn’t the funds to travel) that in reminisces by people who had known my sister and me back in the day, some remembered others saying “poor little girls”.
I never saw us as being those ” poor little girls” then. But as I got older and started to understand the husband/wife dynamic which ultimately led to bitter divorce after we were both out of the house, I could review my whole childhood and make sense of many things which escaped my young eyes, though apparently not the eyes of others. But most important I could begin, in the light of more mature reflection to see each of my parents as people individually with human flaws and different experiences, some life altering, which they brought to their marriage.
My mother often said “There but for the grace of God..”
I tell this only because I’ve often wondered since that shocking statement told to me how many there are about whom this might be said by others…and would never know….as I didn’t, and as I am sure my mother did not.
Oh to see ourselves as others see us…
I posted that from Robert Burns poem elsewhere. And a Treeper sister added “…or as God sees us.”
Talk about what a sharp and humbling thing that would be…thus the incisive quote above which fell suddenly into my lap this morning which led to your comment and my reply. Where on earth would any of us be without that precious God given grace?
My Monday reflections…something I am doing more and more no matter really what day it is.

Same here about the reminiscing … probably due to my age.
Life events are being replayed in my mind – a lot.
My parents’ marriage was broken before I was born.
For eleven years, it was horrendous, till they divorced.
Then, chaos continued (for me) as they each remarried.
Like you, I later understood they were flawed people, as I am.
And that’s what helped me forgive them, and even have pity, because they were so wounded.
People can’t teach what they don’t know, and can’t give what they don’t have …
Hurt people – hurt people.
God tells us that His grace is sufficient for all our needs. It’s unlimited.
And the good news: For those who accept Jesus as Lord, God sees us as “righteous.”
Hard to imagine (for me!), but that’s how He sees us – as His precious child whom He loves and cares for.
For that I am grateful.

A new study published last week in Scientific Reports cautioned dog owners that the ills of humanity are depressing pets, too. The research found that dogs can smell stress on humans and it’s hurting their mood.
Dogs and humans have been companions for 30,000 years, which is a long enough time to become emotionally co-regulating cohabitants on a genetic level. Previous research has shown that dogs are apt at reading verbal and visual cues as well as sniffing out physical and mental illnesses in people.
Now researchers can add human stress to the list of canines’ super scent skills.
In my dog sports world…we often utilize peppermint candies to counter that ‘smell’ of fear or stress…as most of get a bit stressed “at the line” or “waiting on deck”….

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. – Psalm 147:3
Luke, the writer who penned two major New Testament books—the Gospel according to Luke and the Acts of the Apostles—was a physician. He records a number of the healing miracles of Jesus, and was also aware of healings that took place as he traveled with the Apostle Paul. Because of his medical skills, he recognized that it was only God and His healing hands that wrought such miracles.
In today’s verse, the psalmist writes of the brokenhearted and wounded.
This would appear to be more than just a physical ailment… it involves illness in the soul. A physician can bind up a wound, but a wounded spirit requires a different type of healing. The next verse in the psalm declares the immense power of God who not only created but actually named each star.
Theologian Charles H. Spurgeon suggests that the God who does this has done so by His voice. The very words of God have power. Spurgeon says, “The same Being who spoke the worlds into existence, and now impels those ponderous globes through their orbits, does in His mercy cheer the wounded and heal the broken in heart.”
A wounded body may be painful, but a broken heart despairs. The application of ointments can help heal physical wounds, but the application of Divine grace is required to heal brokenness.
Are you wounded in body or in spirit? Pray. If your heart is in conflict with the Lord, pray. Humbly submit yourself to the hands of Almighty God. Seek His mercy for your suffering and His grace for healing. Allow Him to work, in His timing and by His means. Thank and praise Him for His loving and tender care for you.
Pray the Lord’s healing for the many who are broken in spirit across America today.

As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
