Having been to his rally in Schnecksville, PA, ‘security’ was very heavy in the closest proximity to and inside the venue, as well as the high ground and other areas surrounding it.
We’ll have to wait and see what news comes out, but I’d be highly skeptical if a ‘casual’ shooter somehow got anywhere near to PDJT on their own.

I’ve been to outdoor rallies in the past. I usually use the porta potties while I wait for the traffic to lessen. The first time I saw camo wearing sharp shooters come out of the wood was a little surreal.
They reported that there were secret service in camouflage in the trees.

I can add a caveat…. a rifle running high subsonic ammo with a suppressor can sound like a small caliber pistol from certain angles. Folks here who regularly shoot suppressed can likely expand on that. An integrally suppressed rifle can shoot supersonic ammo very quietly too, but those are pretty rare and specialized.
