There’s only ONE way to “cultivate the Love of the Father” and that’s by immersing yourself in God’s love for you.
1 John 4:19 says “We love because He first loved us.” Jesus told His disciples to love others as He loved them. The only way either us or the disciples can love is to first KNOW God’s great love for us (not that anyone will ever get to the bottom of God’s love, but it’s fun to try).
Ask God to show you how long and high and wide deep is His love for you, and then dive into a study of Christ’s two-fold finished work. That is where God definitively settled the question of whether He loves you or not.
Don’t look to your circumstances or to your feelings or to your finances or to the state of the union to try to find God’s love for you. Look at the cross and the resurrection which shouts I LOVE YOU for all eternity!
Along the same lines, there are only two true motivators in life–love and truth. Every other motivator (fear, shame, guilt, challenges, rededication, surrender, etc.) are all false because eventually they will wear you out, burn you out, and make you give up in disgust. Sadly, these false motivators are what you get in most Christian churches and Christian literature.
But God uses true motivators–not only are they lasting, but they’re relaxing, too.
In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Is your Christianity restful, and is walking with Jesus easy and light? It’s supposed to be!

Only use low pressure/ low expansion foam for sealing around door and window frames. It won’t warp the frames.
I wonder if it’s some type of polyurethane foam, which MSHA (mine safety & health admin) just sent out a warning to coal miners to find something else to use to fill empty pockets as it is highly flammable. Day 5 with no power. Tuesday night our 20yo honda generator locked up. So Wednesday hubby drove 100 miles and bought a new one and got gas. Yesterday tree guy came and took down our 80yo oak that was leaning over the house along with the pine that was through our neighbors house. No cell service, but we have Starlink so with gen power we can run the modem and I have been able to WFH and have wifi calling.
Over all surviving. Total out of pocket so far ~$5000. Really no eta for power restoration. Heard some reports say 07/16 but who knows.
I know your struggles, LIT. This Natural Born Florida Man is praying for y’all.
No power really brings everything into focus.
All I know is the day you finally start getting used to not having AC, a fridge and functional toilet (I am on a well) is the day you hear the beep of the microwave coming back online, a cool breeze begins trickling out of the overhead vents and the TV kicks on to whatever channel it was broadcasting when the power went off shattering the humid silence.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Good morning to you,Woo!! Such a good post. I’ve been putting out mealworms for the nesting mocking birds. This morning before full light I was being squawked at to refill their dish. If I put out pecans or walnuts for the squirrels they will come sit at the front door looking in to say “hey, where’s our nuts today? “
We recently discovered a family of raccoons, 4 little ones, have adopted us.
They’re hungry li’l buggers, have amazing acrobatic skills, and manage to clean out our bird feeders. I think they do a progressive dinner along the backyards in our neighborhood.

Since when do school districts need full blown police departments? Driving in Indy today and came across a squad care with MSD Washington Township on it. I can see a resource officer or two, but not a “police force”. They’re installing public health clinics on the campuses, too. Not just a school nurse. Somewhere you can receive your “healthcare” assistance… like a permanent “pop up” vaccine clinic.
Seems that school districts are becoming little mini governments and I don’t like it – not one little bit.
The local municipality is enough for me, rather than them having the need to play badminton with each other over responsibilities. School’s responsibility is to teach. Police’s responsibility is to protect. Hospital and medical offices responsibility is to heal.
Everybody stay in their lanes.

TGIF!!! We have three more weeks of summer school classes and so far, so good. We are super busy, but it is a good busy. Was listening to Ari Shaffir interview with Tucker Carlson. Ari is a comedian and good friend of Joe Rogan. Ari was talking about how he ditched the phone and the computer and took off on an international trip, no agenda, no itinerary, no mastery of the local language, and sleeping in hostels. He talked about how “freeing” it was to be totally disconnected.
Doesn’t that just sound… marvelous???!!!
Regardless the plights of the enemy, this world is going to keep spinning. evil’s effect on us is only as severe as we allow it to affect us. I’m constantly recalibrating myself to remember that time is finite and if I have an hour of time – how will I spend it nourishing us? Is what I am doing… or what Savannah is doing… helping our situation and bringing us peace… or is it harming us, and wasteful? We don’t get a do-over with time. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
I hope all here are finding and holding fast to their peace.
I’m also being reminded… a lot lately… that how I see the world… the perception of it that I choose to focus on… deeply affects my optimism or pessimism. I can get very depressed. I have good reasons to be very depressed, so nothing I would consider “illegitimate” or without “just cause” – but when I am down, the enemy is gaining a foothold with me and winning. When I resist the urge to “go dark” – I honor God by my putting my faith In Him and His Results. His yield of His harvest.

The little foof ball kitties are wonderful. They are fast, floppy, and travel like little tumbleweeds. If you are lucky to capture one of the raskily critters, she will purr and breathe heavy because she is full bore having the time of her life. We have toys galore. Two HUGE cat condos. Four kitty bed areas. Two elder cats – one Alzheimers kitty who is surprisingly interested and unfazed; and one ridiculously large Maine Coon who apparently is afraid of his own shadow. Harry Houdini hisses, but has not struck out at the little girls.
The little girls love each other and they love us. Millie the Brave sees us walking in the door and she comes running to us, up on her hind feet, paws up reaching to us… wanting to be picked up. Maggie is aloof and doesn’t need much caretaking. Both completely unafraid – even of the big “mean” cat.
I have a really large working desk and hutch – with lots of things on it. The girls find this fascinating and they love knocking my things off and carrying my things away. Our bedrooms are still off limits, for fear we wouldn’t find them in there and we are not leaving them out alone unattended at night. Not until the girls are a bit bigger.
We call them “little ladies” and I recommend highly incorporating some kittens into your life. They are exhausting. And a hoot! And, well… I am insane. I embrace it.
May our God, Who numbers the hair on all of our heads, bless and keep you today and everyday. May He make His Face to shine upon you and be gracious and merciful to you and yours. May He bring you peace. May He remind you of your future with Him and that all this stuff and people-busyness is temporary. In Christ Jesus’s Holy and Saving Name, I pray for you. AMEN

I was going through some old letters and photos. Maggie had saved a small collection of my birthday cards. Didn’t know she’d done this. The cards were from the early 90s or so. On each card under her name she’d drawn little images of our 7 kitties and 3 dogs. Now that I’m approaching 80, it was poignant to find this small collection of happiness from a particularly pleasant time in our 55 years .
Awww Garrison, I love this memory of your sweet bride you shared. It is the reason I lament cloud stored photos, electronic greetings, etc… because there’s not a tangible box of keepsakes to find someday.
I have maybe only 3 small letters my mother wrote to my father when he was Korea… a handful of notes from my dad to me… a very tiny… about one inch tall porcelain siamese cat of my mother’s (the mom and sister of the trio broken when one of our own cats crashed onto an open shelf). A pewter broken hinged jewelry box of my great grandmother’s… and that’s it. Not much history. It’s a strong story behind that and not one I’m willing to share.
But I often write little letters and notes to my daughter and gave her a sturdy decorative hat box to store her “precious” things in. Hobby Lobby has some great ones there that are pretty.
The writings have slowed and been replaced with “important books” she may or may not read… but in time… my hope is that the collection is impactful and she’ll read when her time is right… and she’ll learn from them.
I have some letters from her father which I’m now recalling back in kinder times that speak very differently to the way things are now… and I hope she’ll find love in those.
I was never very artsy craftsy, but fortunately became so while pregnant with her and her baby book is thoughtful and stellar.
Two years ago, for Christmas… I made a huge old fashioned flip photo album for her with probably a thousand pictures chronicalling integral times in her life… given to her when she was at her lowest and deepest grief. Best Christmas gift ever. She seldom pulls it out but she will someday.
I stopped taking pictures a lot after loss of the house, you’re gently reminding me to do it again… and fast. My time is short with her and she has changed so much.

Country singer John Rich has been thinking a lot lately about the spiritual battle we are in according to a recent interview.
He was inspired to write a new song called “Revelation” just released today.
He wrote a song called “Earth To God” several years ago which was beautifully done.
Rich has produced many other culturally relevant songs in recent years.
So glad to see some spiritual influence coming back into cultural influence.

Last weekend, we watched “Fried Green Tomatoes” again.
Years ago, we ate lunch at the actual “Whistlestop cafe” in the movie.
There were many good actors/actresses in this movie, too.
And, I love “Driving Miss Daisy” with Jessica and Morgan Freeman.
The time period of this movie is when I was growing up in Atlanta, Ga.
Takes me way back, and love all the old cars, homes, scenery, and everything. Sniff.
Can’t wait to watch this next one!

One of my favorite yardbirds, a Catbird. Unfortunately I have never seen one here, but they were regular yard nesters where I grew up. When I drove past my old house on my vacation, one was standing in the driveway next to the viburnums (which they loved) looking at me as I drove by. I do have 2 pairs at my workplace which I get to see and hear during my lunch break.

The viburnum is so pretty that I used the pic as wallpaper for awhile…
(Colkitto: Viburnums are usually deer resistant and most are big bird attracters especially the Arrowwood!
Pretty hardy once established and will tolerate some shade as well. One of the best bird shrubs.)
I am a big Viburnum fan Ma’am. Only tricky thing with them is many of them need to be cross pollinated, but not the straight species Arrowwood. I had made a hedge of Blue Muffins along my driveway, and had some Arrowwood’s in the backyard to cross pollinate them. The Blue Muffins are better than the Arrowwood’s if you need them to be not as big and spreading. They are a bit more compact. The Birds love them to nest and eat the berries.
I kinda felt like the Catbird was saying hi to me from the driveway. I saw the people who were living there had left most of what I had planted, though a few less hardy of my bushes had died because they were not as diligent with caring for them as I was. It still looked very birdy, as I had made it specifically for that.
