This is so typically DC; the irony is a little grimacing on many levels. Apparently a not very smart carjacker pulled a gun and tried to steal a car belonging to a federal marshal while he was on the protective detail of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s condo in DC.
In response, the marshal fired “several shots” at the carjacker along with shots from another officer on the detail. The young ‘dindunuffin’ was not seriously injured but suffered a major hemorrhaging in street credibility amid the local DC thug population. Meanwhile, Justice Sotomayor is fine and continues to Build the Better World that surrounds her.
(WASHINGTON DC) – A deputy U.S. Marshal tasked with protecting Supreme Court justices’ homes shot an alleged armed carjacker near the Washington residence of Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor last week, authorities said Tuesday.
The suspect, 18-year-old Kentrell Flowers of Southeast D.C., allegedly pulled a handgun on the marshal, who was in a parked car in the Northwest section of the city around 1:15 a.m. ET on Friday, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a press release.
The marshal drew his own gun and “fired several shots at the suspect,” the MPD said. Another marshal in a separate vehicle also fired at Flowers, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said. (read more)

Regularly there are shootouts between several people or groups of people in Chicago and either no one gets hit, or some guy down the block gets hit while sitting in his living room watching TV by a bullet that crashes through his window. Dozens of shell casings at the scene. And it is not uncommon for them to try to carjack an offduty cop. They’re dumb. That’s why they steal. If you forced them to work at a job where the only duty was breathing, they’d suffocate.

I had NPR playing a couple of weeks ago. There are suggestions that Sotomayor should consider retirement before Biden is out of office. The discussion was couched as Sotomayor may soon be better off without the stress of SCOTUS. If she might need to retire anyway, wouldn’t she prefer to let Biden fill her open seat rather than let Trump have another conservative justice.

Took my family to the DC Cherry Blossom Festival in ’85. Stayed at the Sheraton just a block and a half behind the White House. After breakfast, the 4 of us headed out the front doors intending to walk to the WH to tour it.
The Concierge almost had a heart attack. Told us we absolutely COULD NOT walk to the WH, we had to go and come via the hotel courtesy limousine. It was simply too dangerous to walk anywhere in that neighborhood …1 1/2 blocks from the White House. The wife thought he was nuts. He was dead serious.

I was in a hotel on K Street for a couple of days in July of 1976, having been at a national book sellers convention in Atlantic City and really wanting to “take in some sights” before I headed back to California. I was the only one of our large group taking the extra day to DC–I still remember the endless warnings from all of them about what I “must not do” and I “must” stay locked in my room after I checked in, etc.
Most of them were accustomed to business travel of all kinds and they obviously thought I was going to get myself killed. I still marvel at the fact that I actually did get to move around the mall and got to Arlington as well before catching a train to Philadelphia to see Independence Hall and the liberty bell. Someone else from the group joined me on that part.
But obviously NO ONE WHO KNEW ANYTHING thought it was a good idea for me to be in DC alone. I also clearly remember the sense of shock at the obvious rudeness of DC locals. Nasty, nasty bunch in my opinion..

I had been working undercover for several months trying to bust an organized retail theft operation.
I was staking out a local business that had been fencing the stolen goods, as well as functioning as a bookmaking operation for a major organized crime group.
My partner and I were in separate vehicles.
We had been there about an hour when I noticed a young thug creeping up behind my partner’s unmarked car.
I alerted him to the approaching threat and waited for the fun to begin.
My partner was no one to mess with.
As the thug moved from the rear of the car toward the driver’s side window, he suddenly jumped up in the air, spun around 180 degrees, and took off running in terror.
Afterward, I asked my partner what happened.
He said that he drew his gun and had it waiting in full view for the thug.
He laughed as he described the look on the guy’s face when he found himself looking down the barrel of his gun.
Under normal circumstances, we would have grabbed the guy, but we didn’t want to blow our cover.
Even our Marshals can’t shoot worth a damn!
Yeah and in DC (or any other democrat run big city for that matter) if it was a regular white guy that pulled his (legal) piece and started shooting at the carjacker he would be the one brought up on charges, not the carjacker.

Normally(the key word), it’s sad to hear of a young person making a terrible decision like this. BUT, this isn’t normal and has been a pattern. I unapologetically rejoice! This is the ONLY thing savages understand, brute, deadly force. It just needs to be more consistent to become a legitimate deterrent. I hope they start mounting their ****ing heads on poles in their neighborhoods. “Playing nice” is a result of shaming weak people, done so by those with the morals of rats.
