Reminded me of the English lessons… now I’m seeing English lessons in comedy.
My seventh grade Honours English Teacher made a pedant out of me, Woo. She was so elegant…tall, a perfectly groomed white haired, well spoken lady d’un certain age” with the focused look of Margaret Thatcher. I hoped if I couldn’t look like her when I reached her age (which in no way do I…sob…) that I could at least be a bearer of her meticulous and proper grammar.
Some people never know when they make that sort of impression on another 💕

He held after school sessions on diagramming sentences: on his own time, naturally.
Everything you ever need to know about sentence structure and what constitutes parts of speech is all there in a diagram. Brilliant.
I went back as an adult to express my appreciation. He grinned from ear to ear.
I’m guessing sentence diagramming is no longer on school curricula. 😔

Blessings on you and your sweet family!
2nd job started with orientation last night. I really like the people at the new job A LOT. If I can get a hang of the sleeping – I think it’s going to be really good especially to diversify a bit in this economy.
Homeschooling – Savannah is in her first full week of summer school with two courses. She saw on Tuesday how thinking she was going to finish her homework for Wednesday on Tuesday night after her work shift was a real mistake. Procrastination does NOT pay. Her reading was around 3 hours, so we knocked it out together and discussed as we went along.
Today, I got home from my business office and found her engaged in her homework – without me asking her to do so… and she had made my bed for me. (Harry the Maine Coone was asleep in it when I left early this morning and I didn’t want to disturb him.) Coming home to both those things was a real blessing.
She loves the curriculum. We discussed this morning that the content feeds her mind and makes her feel more intelligent. I’m sorry I didn’t do it sooner, but I am a little worried. She had 3 hours of reading for just yesterday with only two classes, plus her assignments. Imagine when it ratchets up to SIX classes. She understands that this comes before all things… so we are forgoing a flight opportunity this weekend and proceeding with the knowledge that she will have to give up her job if she begins to fall behind. It’s aggressive and in no way even COMPARABLE to the garbage in public schools.
For me… for sleep… for balancing… for heavy engagement on all fronts… it is not easy at all. It will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I get this real sense of delight in my second job that I am doing it for such great reasons and I am optimistic about her future, her sensibility, and her outlook on life.
She did give me some blow back about missing her chance to fly this weekend (as a passenger, not as a pilot this time – but likely with different type of aircraft). It’s almost a 3 hour round trip and she has to work at 1 PM, so we would have to leave at 5 AM and leave the event at 10 AM to get home, cleaned up, and her to work on time. We will see how Friday night feels – but that’s likely a “no go”.
Know your limits, both of you…and where it is possible abide by them. I know I am sticking my nose in uninvited and I know from reading this might not even be possible right now. This is something I have tried to tell my two daughters whose own lives are like yours, Woo. Yet both keep pushing themselves further and further. God will give you both the strength to find that spot.
One good thing I am getting from what you’ve written is that as your second job demands more of your time, Savannah will begin to learn how to manage hers. I know it isn’t easy, but this is something some young people will never learn. No downside to that, girl.
Prayers up for that time when a familiar routine develops from your new directions…🙏🏻🕊😘

my Dad bartended a local tavern on weekends and he’d take me in early afternoon on Saturday when he was setting up the bar and there were few customers if any
I’d drop times in the jukebox to play those Byrds songs and messed around on the pool table
That song dates to 1967 so I’da been 14 at the time
Couple years later there was a Pong machine made its debut
The Byrds were the 1st rock concert I ever saw.
I was in the 6th grade and showed up in bobby socks and and a pleated skirt (probably ’65/66?) and was, basically, surrounded by a bunch of “older” hippies. haha.
My father dropped me off and waited outside, cuz my little friend who said she’d go with me was not able to attend, last minute.
It was a great concert in a smallish venue (a round tent-like thing) . And Buffy St. Marie was the opening act.

Hee hee… our handles for the doors would make that easy, too. We pick it up and place it inside a plastic reusable movie theater popcorn bucket. They can’t see it… somebody just forgot to put it away.
Timmy gets on his hind legs and rolls out the bottom drawer of my bathroom cabinets, or he just goes right in through the swinging doors under the sink. Then, he reaches up and rifles through my drawers pulling odd bobbles out and leaves them as gifts in his food bowl, or he ransacks my jewelry box.
He did it once with a good, expensive pair of designer prescription eyeglasses!!! Couldn’t find them for two weeks as they dropped behind the roller drawers and I thought I had left them somewhere. We turned our place upside down looking for those.
Wish I could teach him to put things away!

Plus if the internet crashes and “e” is no more… I like having the hard copy for posterity. Who knows if kiddo’s kids will pick it up someday and learn from it in the future dystopian empire???

I’m a strong believer that what you hold in your hands is YOURS! I remember going to the mall and sifting thru CDs at the music store…can’t find those stores anymore…everything is streamed via the internet. So now I have hard copies of music and books (and political truths) … things that I cherish. No one will take them away…

If history has taught us anything, it is that authorities do not like an educated public and thus they dumb down the population by removing methods of learning and self-sufficiency. I’m even purchasing the $200+ Algebra and Government & Econ books – very hard to find them, but even if they are used… they are still intact.

Books are among my most prized possessions, but, I have filled all our bookcases, and will oftentimes download ebooks to read late at night (especially if they are not something worth keeping for posterity).
I have many of my parents’ and grandparents’ books that I hope the kids will cherish as I do.
Last year, I decided to cull my bookcases and make room for more. Think I pulled out 4 or 5. Everything else went back.
As a side note, it’s rather sad that most thrift stores no longer accept book donations. I gather there is just not enough interest.

We get so little rain here: haven’t even seen a grey cloud in 2 months. But, give me a thunderstorm and a drizzly afternoon – I’m in my chair with quilt and pillow, kitties and pups draped all over the place, and a book in hand. Add a good glass of wine, and it’s a vacation! Next month our monsoon season will be upon us, and I am already mentally stacking up books!
That sounds like a perfect day to me. I keep thinking that when they stack me away in an old folks home… I’ll have my books.

In the mid 80’s I was just getting into PC’s using WordStar. For a dyslexic having a simple spell checker was magical. I’d learned to be a good typist (90wpm in HS) so using WordStar was a breeze. But what really was transformative was getting a PC based thesaurus. Word Finder was an excellent thesaurus but it only worked under CPM. I wrote to the company explaining that I was dyslexic and badly needed a DOS based thesaurus.
The owner of the company himself called me. He told me that he was going to borrow a little Sanyo PC (which is what I had) and port the software over to run on my little computer’s. early version of DOS. I was sent the very first DOS based version of the software!
Word Finder went on to be a very successful, widely used writing tool. Word processing, spell-checking, a thesaurus and my hard copy of Strunk and White literally transformed my life.
That is a GREAT story, Garrison! Kids don’t spend enough time researching synonyms and antonyms in this day and age. Who needs to communicate? Artificial Intelligence will just do it for you!

The fact that I am trying to be right with God is a sign that I am rebelling against the Atonement. “Lord, I will purify my heart if You will answer my prayer; I will walk rightly if You will help me.” I CANNOT make myself right with God, I CANNOT make my life perfect; I can only be right with God if I accept the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ as an absolute gift. Am I humble enough to accept it? I have to resign every kind of claim and cease from every effort, and leave myself entirely alone in His hands, and then begin to pour out in the priestly work of intercession. There is much prayer that arises from real disbelief in the Atonement. Jesus is not beginning to save us, He has saved us, the thing is done, and it is an insult to ask Him to do it.
If you are not getting the hundredfold more, not getting insight into God’s word, then start praying for your friends, enter into the ministry of the interior. “The Lord turned the captivity of Job WHEN HE PRAYED FOR HIS FRIENDS.” The real business of your life as a saved soul is intercessory prayer. Wherever God puts you in circumstances, pray immediately, pray that His Atonement may be realized in other lives as it has been in yours. Pray for your friends NOW; pray for those with whom you come in contact NOW.

I guess being human… I see the world and question God ‘s Honesty that He Will Work all things for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His Purpose (Romans 8:28). Does He mean me, when He refers to “people”… and is this promise for “every time” and for “every good” and “every bad”???
Living a Christian life can be really simple… we just tend to overthink and make it hard! (“We” meaning me and the mouse in my pocket.)
I had a strange text yesterday from a man in my “way back” past. He’s a married man with two kids wondering what his old flame from 25 years ago is doing and it was “hard to track you down”.
Simultaneously, I’m in this multi front fight against the establishment and I’m dealing with attacks from every side. If there was armor within armor (two fold)… I’m crawling into that right about now.
Do I think this guy is going to be some “knight in shining armor” or some flattery, or some casual distraction and escapism from the reality that is the fight? No. I see this for what it is… a Spiritual attack when satan thinks I’m at a weak point. When you fight in Spiritual battles frequently, you can see these trip wires a mile away.

I was kind. I was cordial. But I also made clear who I am today and where I stand and to Whom I truly belong. There is no room for sinfulness. This is the time for choosing.

I, in no way, shape, or form resemble the woman I was 25 years ago. I made a choice and chose a path that was life saving… dignity saving. Grace and mercy overflows from that choice. Did I give up wealth? Did I give up power… literal and rhetorical? Did I give up pride and ego? If you knew the monster I was before… compared to the person I am now… ohhhh YEAH… in a big way. Would I have believed in God had I not chosen my current path? Yes, absolutely… I always have… but it would have been way too tempting to put my own crown on and try to sit on my self-constructed throne as my own god (little “g”) and try to take up space next to God. What audacity!
I don’t “make myself right” with God. I live right and choose right because I love Him and I believe His Word.
I went to bed last night and I didn’t dream about that old flame. I woke singing a praise and worship song in my mind and I am so grateful for that.
He Really Is So Good.
I’ll keep praying for Atonement for others and I’ll keep bringing my prayers of supplication before God.

“trolling” is a very good word for it. It is surreal how evil orchestrates itself when coming at a person. It is methodical, organized, and sometimes a shotgun effect to run you around and wear you down. That’s when we just get real small and declare “enough!” and start casting out… and anoint the house and the kid and the pets. 🙂

Yesterday was Steve and Betty’s 53rd wedding anniversary. Steve came home from his 2nd knee replacement operation yesterday afternoon after one night in the hospital. I stood as spotter as he made it up the 6 stair steps to the door to of his house and using a walker, got to his easy chair in the living room where he wanted to sit. Even a part of two days and a night in a hospital bed made him happy to be in his easy chair.
The chair is one of those with electric controls for positioning. Once in it he raised the foot rest and said “there now, I feel no pain in this position.” As he was doing that Betty parked the car in the garage and brought in device that wraps around the knee and through a but running to a cooler draws the cold air up to ice the knee.
Sherry put a wonderful roast in the crock pot last night to slow cook all night. That beef will be cut or pulled apart and put in a big pot of Beef & Vegetable soup that she is making today. That soup is more like a stew it’s so thick and it is Steve and Betty’s favorite. We’ll be taking at least half of it over to them this afternoon after is simmers all day. Should last them a few meals and take some of the strain off Betty.
Gonna ask Sherry to make a couple loaves of homemade bread today to go with the soup.
I’m thanking to Lord for blessings received. My good friend appears to have made it through two knee replacement surgeries in 6 months with flying colors. That’s a lot of strain on a 75 year old and for that reason I was more concerned about this 2nd go round than the first.
Doc said that the right knee he replaced was a mess with arthritis. As anyone that reads my stuff knows, Steve is an extremely hard worker and has been his whole life. When we were working on the cabin a couple weeks ago he kept complaining that he’d lost the calluses on his hands and a lot of his grip strength. He is also a big man. Yea, he’s carrying more weight than he should but he is not even close to morbidly obese. Just a big boned Swed! The Doc said replacement knees come in 6 sizes the largest being a 6. Said he put a 5 in Steve. Said that a 6 would go into a man the size of Shaquille O’Neil.
So now Steve has had both knees replaced and Betty has had one. Once Steve has sufficiently recovered Betty will be getting her 2nd knee replaced.
Praise The Lord for this good news, Rob! Glad Steve did alright and I bet he and Betty sure appreciate the best neighbors a guy could ask for. Love your stories!

Paul reminds you that God will provide a means of escaping temptation, so you can bear it (1 Corinthians 10:13).
The one who endures is blessed (James 5:11). Your faith will be strengthened as God turns the messiness of coming through trials into a message of His power. Peter echoes James when he says to rejoice when your faith is tested (1 Peter 1:6-9). Even in the deepest valleys, you can know God’s comfort (Psalm 23:4).
Theologian C.H. Spurgeon writes, “Your faith is the target that all the arrows are shot at.”
Scholar and author J.B. Phillips wrote, “Joy in trials comes from knowing that the outcome will be good.”
Though the tests from temptations, trials, or tribulations may not be joyful in the moment (Hebrews 12:11), they result in the development of your character and a closer walk with the Lord (Romans 8:28).
Pray for an increase in strength of character and unity among Christians during this election season as God works out His will for the nation.

Yep, the day Is better!
This is Boscoe. He’s about 18 at the time of this picture and sitting in his personal sprinkler! He tried to drown in our dog tub a few times, so this was the alternative!
He showed up at the medical office where I was working early in the morning 25+ years ago. I was the only one there, so unlocked the door for him – he ran into my office and sat in the chair meant for patients. My doc wasn’t happy (boo hoo!), but he stayed all day and was a perfect gentleman.
At the end of the day, I did the usual: posters, calls to vet offices and shelters, etc. Even drove him around the area to see if he reacted. No bites. We already had 5 dogs, so my old folks took him in. Well, he was the love of their lives (and their other two dogs and kitty).
My mom died a few years later, and then Dad started failing. Boscoe was always at his side. He really became Dad’s reason for carrying on. He cooked breakfast for him and the kitty every morning, and took Boscoe for a ride every day, after dog walking became problematic.
When Dad came to stay with us under home hospice, of course Boscie and his sister, Kitty Cat, (tell you about her some other time) came also.
They were a great comfort to him at the end. 😔
Bosco lived another 2years+ after Dad passed. We adored him, and our other dogs and kitties did too.
A true Good Dog. Love him still. ❤️

The state of NY has had it’s own Highway usage tax for big trucks on top of the IFTA tax which applies to all states. Now NYC is wanting to implement another tax. The thing is NO truck driver goes into Manhattan or any of the other boroughs unless they absolutely have to. In NY the most traveled interstate is the I-90 New York through way and the tolls are high.
So this tax on trucks is just another way to try and squeeze more revenue out of truckers.
The states of Oregon and New Mexico also have their own tax on highway usage on top of the IFTA. For New Mexico I totally understand why. In states with a relatively low population and but interstates and hwys to maintain and few toll roads such a tax is warranted I think. Other states with a similar problem like Kansas and Oklahoma use tolls on the interstates to help with the cost of road maintenance.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
