As G7 leaders prepare to meet in Italy, the United States is today sanctioning more than 300 individuals and entities to degrade Russia’s capability to pursue its war of aggression against Ukraine.
In this action, the Department of State is imposing sanctions on more than 100 individuals and entities. These designations aim to disrupt sanctions evasion and backfilling and target entities in multiple third countries including the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
The Department’s designations also constrain Russia’s future energy revenues, building on previous sanctions stalling the development of Russia’s Arctic LNG 2 project and other Russian future energy projects.
Designations targeting Russia’s defense industrial base incorporate sanctions on Belarusian entities supporting Russia’s war machine.
The Department is also designating malign authorities and elites responsible for the forced transfer and deportation of Ukrainian children.
All targets are being designated pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 14024, as amended, which authorizes sanctions with respect to specified harmful foreign activities of the Government of the Russian Federation.

A concerning article in the Federalist about Ohio’s special election for our 6th congressional district. It’s a district that has been very red and pro-Trump, with 30 point leads being the norm for Republicans. However, it looks like voter turnout was very light, with Republican Michael Rulli winning by less than 10 points.
The article confirms Sundance’s point about ballots vs. voters, and cautions against complacency by Republicans even in “sure-win” elections. With all the mechanisms for cheating out there, I really hope our side doesn’t start believing our own press releases and get complacent about voting. We need every Republican/MAGA vote we can get, for every position, in every election. Ask President Trump, Steve Bannon, and Peter Navarro –this is not the time to relax:

Let’s not overreact to this “close” win. If you check back on elections in non presidential years such as 2022, 2018, 2014, 2010, you will find that while Republicans still won that district, the results were less overwhelming than in the presidential years. And in a special election, the results here ended up even less overwhelming than in those off year elections.
This is a systemic problem with Republicans, as witness what happened in those 2 Georgia special elections for Senate that we lost in 2021.
The total vote yesterday was 60,000 vs 280,000 in 2022, and 335,000 in 2020.
Republican votes yesterday were 32,000+ vs 190,000 in 2022, and 249,000 in 2020.
Thanks for the stats, Ron — and with respect, I don’t think I’m “overreacting.” You admit that Republicans have a systemic problem with showing up consistently, and that’s what I was addressing. With the House majority paper-thin, and the Democrats making a dumpster fire out of this country, I believe we need to get serious about every election — especially the special elections, where we have a chance to show up and easily outnumber the Dems if we’re paying attention. It’s a chance to make a statement ab0ut how many of us really want change.
I’m also looking at the complacent non-campaign that Bernie Moreno is running to try and unseat entrenched incumbent Sherrod Brown. Brown is running a steady stream of ads that are hitting all the right notes, and I am seeing not a peep out of Bernie. Just saying, if we are serious about reclaiming a solid majority in the House and Senate to support PDJT in the White House, then we need to really be serious. I know the other side is.
The problem with special elections is that they are a low priority for voters when they consider all their other priorities they face every day. I don’t have a magic bullet that will get people to change their priorities.
Moreno was very visible during the primary, which he needed to be to ensure a win there.
If the RNC is not putting money into that race then shame on them. Moreno then has to spend his limited funds wisely, not during vacation season, but after Labor day when it really counts. And you can bet that President Trump will have one or more rallies for him.
