Those large plastic monstrosities are so problematic and uncomfortable for poor kitties and pups who already don’t feel well.
We found this inflatable for Sweeney that did the trick without all the drama.
Oh nice fix! I couldn’t stand the things, or rather I couldn’t watch mine struggle with them on. So for better or worse I took them off. Fortunately it was always for the better, and healing proceeded without problems.
When our Dan-O-Man was around – our gorgeous, regal Russian Blue sophisticat, we could not play a board game without him being actively involved. Like King Kong or Godzilla over Japan, he would lurk – and with a quiet paw swipe, one would lose a house, a hotel, or a top hat. Monopoly was a “survival” sport. LOL We would have to call the missing pieces – loss leaders – like paying taxes to the giant.

Our farmer neighbour’s daughter brought two very young farm cats to our door and asked if they were ours. Everyone in the valley knew ours was the place to be if you were a cat. She didn’t bring them in her arms…they followed her and proceeded to walk in the open door as if they owned the place 😂
Of course we kept them both and named them Bubble (the solid black one) and Squeak (black and white) after that delicious dish of potatoes and cabbage. It was all we could think of for names.
I tripped over Bubble a few times in the night but never came a cropper (as we said in Blighty). Today when we granddog sit our Maggie, as we are doing this weekend, I have to be careful because she is solid black as well. Only broader!

of my study, she likes to be picked up and carried into the house. When I do that I always rub her chin which
always elicits a soft, contented, purr. This is entirely new behavior for a formally feral kitty. She’s now a
real c-a-t. She loves it. And so do I.

What a LOVELY UPLIFTING piece! It sounds regal, doesn’t it?
It is a beautiful, sunny, moderate day here in Central Indiana. Dropped Savannah off at the barn to work with the horses. Did a small bit of grocery shopping for the upcoming week. Kid’s working every night this week and both weekend mornings. School’s out on the 22nd and I see her “dance card” filling up quickly.
On my way home, there’s a marathon run going through our pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.
It is Mother’s Day and I found myself a 10 inch planter FILLED with 3″ tall Basil babies – for $10! – so I scooped my little prize up and brought her home with me. Found her a nice 2 ft tall planter stand and stationed her by the “sunshine” door. Where the kitties have a couple of cozy beds, and when I open the door, I say “sunshine, sunshine!” and they come running to take their places in their favorite morning and noon napping place. Quite the life, they have!
My patio “babies” are sprouting and starting to reach for the sun.
Time for a bowl of Cream of Wheat with whole milk and some Bustelo.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mommas of one kind or another out there. We all “mother” in some way, don’t we?
Cream of wheat doesn’t get enough thumbs up, Woo. We haven’t on occasion for dinner when nothing else appeals. Ours with heavy cream and a small amount of brown sugar. Quick, easy, filling, delicious!!

Had filets set up for this evening but daughter was called in to pick up a shift.
So as my days will march on. Better get the in- between sandwich prepared. She’ll be hungry.
I hope she’s enjoying her new job, Woo. Now that Sarah Grace has her driver’s licence I suspect she will be looking for one, too. Her brothers got theirs as soon as they were legal. Two years now.
I would give anything for Savannah to drive herself… seriously I offer $1,000 to anyone who’ll train her and get her past the test. No takers. I can enroll her in driver’s ed, but she will have trouble passing the written test and I don’t want to waste money over and over again trying to get her through. I may end up biting the bullet.
Inwardly, I’m a little daunted. I’m calculating expenses and time tables. Car, tutor, college, and inwardly we had goal to get out of this apartment and into a home, but the market is terrible and home prices inflated. It’s looking like our focus is reshifting… and that’s okay.
If I could get her schedule settled down and consistent, I could look at picking up a second job. Let’s pray over that okay?
I can’t look at the whole mountain. Just base camp to base camp.
I try not to mourn over not having an husband to teach her to drive. I ask for very little… kill spiders, maybe fix a few incidental things, and teach her to drive. Maybe play a game of horse with her once in a while. But that we not to be. I pray her future is better and more complete with a happy home, intact and happy marriage, and God loving children. ❤️

that Savannah’s working with horses. Those kinds of practical work experiences are invaluable. It’s good that
she’s doing “real” work that has responsibilities. When I was teaching, it was fascinating to note the students
who knew all about real work in real jobs. They had an entirely different attitude about college—which they
were unfailingly serious about because it was their hard-earned money that was paying our school’s tuition.
Garrison, I very much agree.
Savannah started at the stable as a student to get her mind over the heartbreak of losing our home and her cat. Two 10- week sessions and she was in love. Therapeutic cannot even describe.
Then, we offered hands to volunteer and was introduced to Polo at Sunset here in Central Indiana. Imagine the farmer variety as opposed to the posh variety. Horse lovers. Excellent riders. Great causes. Families with picnic baskets and bottles of wine and a Cessna flying overhead dropping candy to the children on Friday nights.
I told Savannah to breathe in every moment… for when she gets older these will be her halcyon days.
As for college, I’ve put out inquiry for a tutor who specializes in learning differences. Found a group and waiting for their response.
This is going to be a lot of work, but if we can keep our senses about us and dig in… don’t look at the whole picture and become overwhelmed, we will be okay.
We will be giving up the Alaska cruise graduation vacation… there will be no time for languishing with the rigorous schedule. College goes year round to be done in 15 months for the associates program. Maybe when she graduates from college and is assured a worthy career.
Mom will wait for our vacation.
Woo, Chris’s sister has always been horsey. Her property in Wales has stables and a small arena where she taught for decades before moving into carriages. She had help in the form of stable girls…it was always girls who adored horses. In fact, on thinking, I believe all of her horsey set have girls, no boys.
I love your stories about her. I love your stories… in general.
There’s no pretense at these stables. The world can be in utter chaos and these horses, who are there to comfort the very most vulnerable in people… are just Divine. They have the silliest personalities and Savannah lights up with her stories. Today of trying to force a bit in the mouth of a 1,200 lb beast who was having none of it when it’s master lady wanted a ride. The barn hands won… today.
Going back there… made me want to stay, but I’m trying not to muscle in on Savannah’s “thing”. So, I chauffeur… and I’ll volunteer when they need the extra hands. Not with tending horses, but parking cars for events, a polo match for fundraising of the group, or two.
Going to be a lovely summer… as long as society can hang into its cool.
I think we have until November, so I’ll make it the very best summer I can for her.
The election must be handled fairly… though I’m not a fool to believe it. I will not even consider planning anything past it. Far too dangerous.
RE: Driver’s Ed. Should have mentioned this earlier. Driver’s Ed classes taught by school districts are covered by ADA law.State driver’s tests have to “handicapped accessible”. By federal law (real teeth btw) equality of access means, for instance, \that someone with a reading deficit could be given a oral driving test. This could be no more complex than having the \testing official read the questions to Savannah and then record his answers. Bet she would pass with flying colors. When I was in pvt. practice, I regularly discussed ADA requirements to entities (schools, colleges, companies) that had aptitude ttests that regularly defeated otherwise qualified dyslexic/dysgraphic individuals. Oral testing was/is an acceptable “reasonable accommodation. ” Talk to whoever is running IAs driver’s ed and driver’s tests. Ask how they comply with ADA requirements for providing “equal access”. It always gave me great pleasure to simply read
my demanding multiple choice theory questions to dyslexic students . . . and then have them score a solid “A” when
before, they wouldn’t have done well at all.

Her high school doesn’t offer it. I’m not certain why, but the driving schools are independent here. There are some with special instructors, but there are no assurances with passing the written test, and thus one takes their chances.
I made her flash cards and that works well. She’s good at memorizing. However, quick response behind the wheel of a car is another thing and the highways here are daunting, especially the I-65 corridor that leads towards Chicago. I’ve lived in Los Angeles, and it seems the drivers here are getting more and more reckless. Or more and more… foreign. My car was hit four times in three months, so I think that weighs on her too.
The pvt are also covered by ADA law. They are required to have alternatives procedures from people with
disabilities. You may come across a private school that hasn’t dealt with ADA (rare) but it’s perfectly ok
to treat having someone read the test questions to Savannah. They probably have procedures already in
place. These are called “reasonable accommodations”. If they don’t know what this means, your local
EEOC office will have someone who can explain the law to them. Honestly, I can’t imagine even a small
driving school not knowing this stuff.
Here’s the point: What is the advantage of forcing someone with a reading deficit to take a reading based timed exam? Is the exam about demonstrating reading skill or is it more important to demonstrate the knowledge to orally answer the exam questions? Having someone read questions to someone like Savannah is a common reasonable accommodation. I did it a lot when I was teaching.
Since the exam is a state produced product, I’d stat with the appropriate state office that designs and administers
the exams. Trust me, they’re going to know all about ADA and “reasonable accommodations”. Having a reading
deficit is no reason Savannah can’t pass an oral driving test. Along with countless other, she has every right
to drive a car.

Haven’t had cream of rice in forever. I’ll have to try it again.
It was when Savannah was born and after 24.5 hours of hard labor… when I threw up over 40 times… then followed by an emergency c-section that I was fed about a half dozen scrambled eggs, bone broth, and cream of wheat.
That blessed breakfast.. I was famished and oh so tired… I ate every bite. I only stayed in the hospital two days… I couldn’t stand it. Only took Tylenol for pain because the high powered pain killers made me hallucinate. I envisioned her half baby and half lobster and her legs fell off… that was first and the LAST of hard narcotics for me!
Ever since, I frequently make bone broth in a small pressure cooker and have cream of wheat. I credit bone broth with a bit of lemon juice for heading off colds.
Give me these and pressed carrot juice and I feel like a million bucks.
I FORCED kiddo to eat a hard boiled egg and a Kind bar today with a bit of juice before heading to the stable. She was obstinate and I put my foot down. She yet realizes that you must sustain your body for how it will feel four hours from now during heavy labor. (She thanked me later after fighting me… but geez!)
We eat eggs a lot as they’re portable and a quick protein fix.
This evening for dinner, an easy rotisserie chicken and a strawberry rhubarb pie for Mother’s Day that I found discounted. We will freeze most of it.
No cooking for me and I don’t want to wait until 9 pm to eat when she comes home. So the rotisserie chicken will be welcome for her without any trouble.
She had a hearty lunch of half sandwich of pressed ham, Colby, spring greens, tomato on butter bread, portabella mushroom macaroni and cheese, and fresh mangoes.
I’ll make some southern sweet tea and that will be it.
Tomorrow she’s at the stable again. I just love it there. All horse country and mansions and the scenery is gorgeous and peaceful.
It’s so quiet without her home, though, and that is going to take some getting used to.

Herschel was further prominent in astronomy, naming the seven moons of Saturn and four moons of Uranus. The latter planet, Uranus, had in fact been discovered by his father Sir William Herschel.
Alongside mathematical and theoretical contributions, Herschel was also involved in photographic and optical studies as well as botanical work.

Biography: Douglas Adams was an English author best known for ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ which began as a BBC radio series before becoming first a novel. In 2005 it was made into a major film featuring Martin Freeman and Sam Rockwell, among others.
Adams was committed to a number of social and political causes—from environmentalism and conservationism to technological innovation and atheism. While describing himself as a radical atheist, Adams remained interested in the social influence of religious belief.
He also campaigned on behalf of endangered species, including his participating in a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro while wearing a rhinoceros costume; and was the first person to buy a Mac computer in Europe, with second-place going to Stephen Fry.
Douglas Adams died of a heart attack at 49; and fittingly for such a fan of technological innovation, his funeral was the first church service to be broadcast live online by the BBC.

Love is indefinite to most of us, we do not know what we mean when we talk about love. Love is the sovereign preference of one person for another, and spiritually Jesus demands that that preference be for Himself (cf. Luke xiv. 26). When the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost, Jesus Christ is easily first; then we must practice the working out of these things mentioned by Peter.
The first thing God does is to knock pretense and the pious pose right out of me. The Holy Spirit reveals that God loved me not because I was lovable, but because it was His nature to do so. Now, He says to me, show the same love to others – “LOVE AS I HAVE LOVED YOU.” “I will bring any number of people about you whom you cannot respect, and you must exhibit My love to them as I have exhibited it to you.” YOU WON’T REACH IT ON TIPTOE. Some of us have tried to, but we were soon tired.
“THE LORD suffereth long….” Let me look within and see His dealings with me. The knowledge that God has loved me to the uttermost, to the end of all my sin and meanness and selfishness and wrong, will send me forth into the world to love in the same way. God’s love to me is inexhaustible, and I must love others from the bedrock of God’s love to me. Growth in grace stops the moment I get huffed. I get huffed because I have a peculiar person to live with. Just think how disagreeable I have been to God! Am I prepared to be so identified with the Lord Jesus that His life and His sweetness are being poured out all the time? Neither natural love nor Divine love will remain unless it is cultivated. Love is spontaneous, but it has to be maintained by discipline.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
