The Toronto local news reported this past week that 82% of the people in jail here have yet to be convicted, but are simply awaiting trial. Similar stats apply across America.
One “root cause” is a shortage of judges, but Canada, like America, is up to its knees in under-employed lawyers who would love to become judges. At some point the case will come before a judge, who will simply release the accused (often accused of serious crimes) for time served. Not a trial, never a trial.
And while the accused are mostly objectively guilty, the innocent therefore plead guilty to avoid punishment without trial, a punishment that would prove greater than any likely sentence.
The leftists like AOC (defund the police, criminals are victims of the system) are oddly sanguine about this huge injustice. Demanding your constitutional right to a speedy trial is not in alignment with leftist sensibilities. Bestowing arbitrary and fickle mercy on the guilty is feudalism/fascism on parade, and leftists love it.
The underlying assumption is that the State officials (police, DAs, probation and parole officers, prison guards and wardens) are effectively more reliable than the Constitution or the written law. Not American values, but fascist values.
The hatred of poor blacks for America and the American system largely flows from this, and again, this serves the interests of revolutionary leftists.
The outrageous treatment of the January 6 protesters undoubtedly served and advanced the State and the system, but not the American system. Not the Constitution.

I don’t think jail time is likely on this one. Andy McCarthy (yes, RINO globalist) had a good strategy for this trial. He said the defense should insist on a lesser included offense instruction for a misdemeanor since all of the elements of the misdemeanor are also included in the felony. If the jury convicts on that count, the conviction doesn’t count because the statute of limitations has run. A better outcome would be a full acquittal or no trial at all, obviously, but demanding the misdemeanor lesser included offense instruction would let a jury full of Trump haters think they were convicting him on something. They wouldn’t be told whether it is a misdemeanor or felony.

They tried to hold the June futures above 38,000 but failed by the end of the day. There is significant support at 37,600 and if 37,600 support does not hold, the next support area would be 36,300.
32,500 is the huge and major support level. The last time the 32,500 support was tested and held was October 30th 2023.
Gold is right back up to just under 2400, and silver is back above 29, despite JPM best efforts.

Any one else hear Dr Ben Carson’s speech three days ago? It’s on YouTube and I highly recommend listening to it. Dr Carson was praising Trump for all the good work he has done for the black community as president, and all the years before he even thought of running.
In this incredible speech I saw Dr Carson’s strength, his grit, and Trump’s VP choice. I didn’t see it before but I see it, feel it now. Kari Lake is another
favorite.
Both are top of my list, I favor Carson as the steady faithful counselor and partner PDJT needs in his second term, they have a seemingly impossible task before them and we cannot ask PDJT to go it without stellar support at the highest levels.
I am also certain that Dr Carson would have within his portfolio the healing of the racial divide created and exploited by Zero, and can imagine none other with the stunning sweep of his life history and incontestable credibility to pull it off, a vital task of reconciliation.
I was thinking about Dr. Carson last evening, and suddenly realized we talk about everything except his Christian faith. For most treepers that’s a huge plus, as his life has not allowed him to use Christianity as a veneer for ambition. (Unlike a certain ex VP.)
Consider this….his career as a pediatric brain surgeon…speaks volumes and can be expressed in a different manner.
He too, sort of had a talent (retired now), on loan from God…a steady hand and an analytical mind.
Agree, he is so measured, a port in a storm. He has gravitas whereas Kari would be playing defense most of the time with class of course.
Carson recounted the time at one of the debates when he didn’t hear his name being called, he said while all the others gleefully stepped over him Trump stood with him backstage He said that is the mark of a good man, indeed.
